Q: I'd like to convert some old cars and have them run like gangbusters.
This Site Might Help You. RE: Can you convert a non diesel vehicle to a diesel vehicle and how? I'd like to convert some old cars and have them run like gangbusters.
Q: engine is on a generator with about 800 hrs. changed fuel and fuel is getting to cylinder, pulled valve cover and valves are moving like they should, sprayed either in air intake and still no pop. any ideas other than to scrap the engine
TO; answer your question Iam need to know if by accident you filled fuel tank with gasoline / or any other liquid//
Q: Are they cranked by a self starter? Is there such an immensely powerful self starter that runs off batteries and can start such a big engine?Or are they started by some gasoline powered motor?
A diesel engine is started (like an automobile) by turning over the crankshaft until the cylinders fire or begin combustion. The starting can be done electrically or pneumatically. Pneumatic starting was used for some engines. Compressed air was pumped into the cylinders of the engine until it gained sufficient speed to allow ignition, then fuel was applied to fire the engine. The compressed air was supplied by a smallauxiliary engine or by high pressure air cylinders carried by the locomotive. Electric starting is now standard. It works the same way as for an automobile, with batteries providing the power to turn a starter motor which turns over the main engine. In older locomotives fitted with DC generators instead of AC alternators, the generator was used as a starter motor by applying battery power to it.
Q: I have to calculate the fuel consumption of a diesel generator given its HP or KVA
Go to some diesel engine websites. They should have the fuel consumption in terms of brake horsepower hours.
Q: has anyone ever heard of a 50cc diesel engine? if so, where could i get one and how much is it?also, i just want the engine, i dont want the rest of the scooter, bike, etc.
diesel motorcycle engines were made for the military. They are about 700 cc's and very expensive and rare. 50cc diesels were never made.
Q: I need the information to do a science project - how is this electrical energy stored?
It's funny you should ask because I was just researching the wind energy subject while looking at getting a job with a company that makes generators. Generally I've found that it isn't! Wind power is usually expected to be supplimental to the power grid because you can't depend on it 24/7. The only exceptions to this are remote areas where they have no power grid access and even then they usually have diesel generators too. I have seen small ones on sailing boats where I'm sure it just tops up their batteries. Waste byproducts are zero or even negative. I say negative because in a lot of places the excess power is fed back into the power grid reducing the need for the other power stations to pollute as much. In fact the only bad things I've heard are from those that think they are an eye sore, those that think they are noisy (which generally are not) and those that think birds will crash into them. it's funny that they don't complain about the glowing ones that nest at my local nuke generating plant tho ;o)
Q: hello,i was wondering to buy a diesel generator for my commercial truck so am i allowed to pick it on my truck?
My uncle has one on his truck. It is plumbed in to his fuel tank.
Q: Fanks for answering!
Advantages: We can set up breeder reactors that generate electricity as well as plutonium. This plutonium can then be used to make nuclear weapons to drop on hostile terrorist nations. Disadvantages: The whiny environmentalists that riot and protest even though they owe their existence to nuclear power as the Atomic Bomb put an end to WW2. ------------------wikipedia----------- Advantages of nuclear power plants against other mainstream energy resources are: * No greenhouse gas emissions (during normal operation) - greenhouse gases are emitted only when the Emergency Diesel Generators are tested (the processes of uranium mining and of building and decommissioning power stations produce relatively small amounts) * Does not pollute the air - zero production of dangerous and polluting gases such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, aerosols, mercury, nitrogen oxides, particulates or photochemical smog * Small solid waste generation (during normal operation) * Low fuel costs - because so little fuel is needed * Large fuel reserves - (e.g., in Canada and Australia) again, because so little fuel is needed * Nuclear Batteries - (see SSTAR) Disadvantages include: * Risk of major accidents - an example of the worst possible situation is what happened to Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (which did not have a conventional containment building) * Nuclear waste - high level radioactive waste produced can remain dangerous for thousands of years if not reprocessed. * Can help produce bombs - all designs of reactor can produce plutonium, aiding nuclear proliferation (see Magnox) * High initial costs * High energy inputs during construction (equivalent to ~7 years power output) * High maintenance costs * Security concerns * High cost of decommissioning plants * Thermal pollution (although all power plants emit thermal pollution)
Q: Does anyone currently live off grid?If so, what type of alternate power system(s) are you using?Solar? ---(I think very expensive and in this part of the country, not enough sun.)Hydro-electric? ---(may be a viable choice if I have enough current running through my stream and or enough head from a waterfall)Wind? --- (If It is installed high enough and does not obscure.)Diesel Generator---(may be ok if underground, low speed, water cooled)We are planning to build a log home in up-state Pa. as a second home for now, but our primary residence in a few years. Thanks in advance for your answers!Newt
i don't know about your possibilities where you are but i would definitely suggest using as much natural lighting as possible and the alternate wood heating furnaces available
Q: I work at a high rise building as security and was interested to know why smoke would come out of a generator? What would be the main reason? Engine too hot? A snapped wire?
What kind of generator and how is it fueled? A diesel generator will smoke at start-up, and if it is an older unit burning old fuel, it will smoke in operation as well. That would be smoke from the exhaust. If you are writing about smoke from the windings - that is the generator itself - that would be due to an overload and/or winding failure, and caused by the system overheating. If you are writing about smoke coming off the engine - that could be from an oil leak, or debris falling onto the engine and being combusted by heat. Only the first of these is 'normal'.
