Q:i understand that diesel engines are used in heavy duty vehicles and gasolines are usually used in cars.why are diesel engines preferred for heavy duty? and who are some cars using diesel engine, like some VW models that use clean diesel.i know the engine works a bit different between diesel and gasoline but as for performance, why is one preferred over the other for heavy duty and regular cars?: a diesel engine develops so much more torque compared to a spark ignition engine. given that the typical engine has a compression ratio of about 12:1 MAX and a diesel is roughly 18 to 22:1, when you ignite the air fuel charge by any means that compressed gas is what does every thing, in a spark ignition engine that air charge expands to 4 times its volume. i do not have a diesels ratio but there can not be much of a difference. that 12 to 1 now be comes 48 to one in a very small area forcing that piston to move. in the diesel with a 20 to one compression ratio, now 80 to one putting an immense force on the face of that piston. so muck torque is developed. i have no info on the clean diesels, so i will stop, but diesels are known for the smoke in the exhaust whick is particulate matter in the air that will settle out.

Q:I am designing the system to produce electricity for a computer room with 40 PC and 40 LCD screens. The needed power is about 15 KW (20 hp). My system consists of a compressor, a compressed air tank, a turbocharger and a mini gas turbine. I will talk a little bit about the operation: the air is released from the tank and driven by ducting system to turbocharger, at which the air flow is through turbocharger and run turbine to produce electricity. I have searched in internet many times about the turbine but still have no fit one. Can anybody suggest me one? And the turbocharger too if you don't mind. I really need all the details about both of them for calculations.: This is a very inefficient way to produce electricity. Where are you getting the power to run the compressor? Use that to run the computers. Or use that charge batteries that will run an inverter. Or use a diesel generator. .

Now I wanted to know since the hummer is not like a bus or a really heavy Diesel equipment that i can work on it myself like a regular car or do i have to have to be a diesel mechanic to even work on it?: Diesel engines are very similar to gasoline engines. If you have the technical knowledge to work on gasoline engines then the same principles applies to diesel engines as well. I know this is true because I took the course for auto/diesel automotive technician certification. I rebuilt them both along with carburetors, transmissions, starters, alternators, and generators. The only difference I can recall are that the diesel engines required more or less air than the gasoline engines. Of course diesel fuels burns much slower than gasoline. Therefore diesel engines might have additional mechanisms to produce or reduce the quantity of air. That is all.

Thanks.: Your solution may be more simple than you think. (a) An electrical machine will not fail at high altitude. The only concern you need to have is sufficient cooling of the machine. At high altitude, the air density is less, but the temperature is cool in addition. But then 10kW is not much at all to be concerned with heating. (b) Get an assembly done at a workshop so that you can run a belt off your truck axle to your generator shaft. (c) Drive the generator (make sure you have anchored it safely to the ground) from the axle of the truck (whose driven wheels you have raised with a jack). Start your truck and power up your generator. (c) 10kW is less than 14HP. This means your truck (200HP?) will not even have to be driven hard to generate the torque to give you full power for your generator. (d) You may need a separately excited DC source (lead acid batteries) for the field of your alternator if you don't use a permanent magnet rotor.
