For generator, i am very clear that it is used for alternate power generation in case of electricity un availability. What is the purpose of diesel engine? Where is is used? Guide me please.

- Q: I built my own, verry successfull HHO gas generator and I want to inject the gas being produced, strait into my car engine but the flame keeps going back into my hose, i have going strait into the air intake carb, and blowing up my generator! I built a little flashback arrestor with gas piping filled with aquarium airstones and that obviously didn't work. Where can i buy a professional industrial flashback arrestor so I don't have to make my own?

If the generator/driver is large enough and the controls are of sufficient quality to maintain the voltage and frequency then it doesn't matter what the power is used for.It will be more than adequate to safely supply AC units or just about any other equipment.

- Q: I recently purchased a CAT turbo diesel generator. I checked the oil and it had water in it. After a good bit of clear water came out the oil started to drain. It could best be described as the color and consistency of a vanilla milk shake. I was told by a friend to mix some diesel with the oil and agitate it to mix it up, then to drain the oil. After the system was clear, i put fresh oil in until it reached the fill line. I started up the engine and let it run for about two hours. It was smoking white from the exhaust stack. I have also noticed that there is oil dripping from the exhaust stack. There also seems to be oil leaking from the turbo. Could this oil leak be causing the white smoke? I remained curious so i grabbed an infrared thermometer and started checking around. The exhaust manifold around the number 1 cylinder was about 100 degrees cooler than the other 3 cylinders. What the heck is going on? help would be much appreciated!
- as far as the water in the oil id say condensation,change out the turbo w/acat reman unit check valve adjustment this may cause your cylinder temp difference also could be a worn injector 100 degrees isnt al that much in all reality

- It really isn't the best way to go. Anytime you convert energy, some efficiency is lost. It is more efficient to propel the car directly with the engine, rather than propelling the car with an electric motor that is powered by a generator powered by the engine. Despite this loss of efficiency, this setup is appealing for use in trains because of their heavy loads. To drive a train directly with a diesel engine requires a massive transmission. Designers ran into problems with the transmission gears breaking due to the massive forces associated with moving a train. Instead, they propel the train with electric motors, which require no transmission. But the motors require power, so they use diesel powered generators. So there you have it. The diesel/electric setup is not appealing for cars, because stresses are low enough that a normal transmission can be used, and there is more efficiency by driving the car directly by the piston engine. The diesel/electric setup is appealing for trains because it eliminates the need for a transmission, which is bulky and prone to breaking.

- Q: i could only find a weight on one website and it said around 8,000 lbs. This one is rusted out and were planning on taking it in for scrap normally we would cut it up and take it in but this thing is a monster im thinking about renting a flatbed if it is 8,000 it would be worth it. The cooling coil and somekind of box with all the controls has been removed but they probobly werent any more then 500 lbs
- That weight should be very close minus loss to rust. I would call a scrapyard first to get an idea of what they are paying, especially because part of it is a diesel engine and there are guidelines with some yards how they will accept machinery, such as clear of any fluids. The copper or aluminum wires and generator cores will probably be most valuable parts and might be worth removing and forgetting the rest depending on what the scrap yard says about the engine and rusted steel shell is worth. It will be a hard move, even for a flatbed truck because the little winch will have to pull that generator which is super heavy and dead weight. Final thing to look into is whether there is any value in any part of it. This is a very popular size generator and is still produced today except with Cummins diesel engine, maybe someone has an older one with same engine and their block is cracked!?
