Q: Automatic diesel generating set how much money?
Fully automatic diesel generator sets are more expensive than conventional diesel engines with the same brand,
Q: Hi. I'm thinking about getting a Kubota Diesel Generator. I have read in many places that the Kubota Diesel engine is the gold standard of Diesel engines. So I'm not worried about that. What i need to know is this, is the generator as a whole dependable? Will over loading it for a few short seconds when the AC compressor kicks in burn it out or shorten its life?Any other insight would be appreciated. Thanks for your answers
Kubota diesel plants are being used more and more in industry, replacing some of the old standbys like Kohler, Perkins and even Caterpillar in lighter applications. I don't think you will regret buying a Kubota.
Q: Can anyone help me figure out where I can find a diesel motor that can be used in a motorcycle? Can I take the motor out of a diesel generator or should I buy a new/used one made specifically for a motorcycle?
diesel motors are not exactly meant for huge changes in load and very high revs typical of a motorcycle a diesel generator? those run in a very very narrow powerband go for the one made for a motorcycle if their are any unless you have a really good reason just get a 4 stroke
Q: Have a diesel engine that puts out average 3000 RPM and max's out at 3600 RPM I want to belt drive to a generator head that only needs 1800 RPM to operate at 60 hertz what size pulley should I use. Also for further info the shaft on diesel engine is 1 inch and the generator shaft is 42 millimeters
If the engine is likely to be running for a long time, fuel consumption is likely to be important. You want to find out at what RPM the engine produces maximum torque.(If it's a car engine that will likely be related to the cruising speed of the car in top gear) All IC engines are most fuel efficient at the rpm for peak torque. If the engine can make enough power for your requirements at the rpm for peak torque, that's the rpm you should aim to run the engine at. Will depend on the engine of course, but peak torque is usually around about 1/3 of the rev range, I estimate that to be aprox 1800rpm [ie (3600-800)*1/3 +800 ] If aiming for 1800rpm for the generator, with an engine speed of 1800rpm, you don't need to change the rpm at all. That means the pulley's can be the same size, unless the belts slip (flat/ribbed belts slip aprox 3%- probably not enough for you to worry about) So that's the ratio sorted out. Physical size of pulley. All belts have a minimum diameter pulley which they can go around, so long as the pulley is larger there's no problem. Minimum size pulley depends on the thickness, and construction of the belt- and that depends on the power you're transferring via the belt. If you give some indication of the power you're wanting to transfer I'm, sure you get some additional help you'll probably need a governor for the engine to generate at 60Hz give or take a bit. Many diesel engines just have a max/min governor relying on the user to governing the rpm under varying load . You'll need fairly good control for electrically generation, but it needs be nothing much than releasing the throttle a little if the generator is running fast, and if the generator is running slow pressing the throttle. Hope that helps
Q: And this person said it also all depends on what PLANT the stuff came from. No wonder the asian kids are ahead of us.
if it is a diesel powered gen set it could run on bio fuel as long as it has been processed correctly a diesel gen can run on several different types of fuel
Q: I have a van and wish to kit it out with generator, welder and power tools. The genrator needs to cope with a 180amp rated welder plus 110v power tools (grinder, drill etc) being used at the same time. The generator needs to be diesel powered not petrol. The ones i've looked at are rated in Kva's. Not too sure how to work out how many Kva's i will require. Help please.
It will probably take something like 6.6 KVA's to run it. Similar one's take a 220 VAC, 30 amp circuit. The Model 180 MIG welds up to 1/4 steel. 6 heat settings and infinitely adjustable wire speed control welds a wider range. Max. output 160 amps with 30% duty cycle. Requires 220 Volts 60 cycle 30-amp circuit.
Q: I have no idea how to possibly even begin interms of comparison. i know for a standard diesel engine i can just look at fuel efficiency and overall engine efficiency, but how would i do this for a diesel electric engine??
Simple. You know the efficiency of the diesel. If you're going to add an electric drive, simply allow for the 10% or so losses in the in the generator - motor drive set vs. the smaller mechanical losses in a gear drive set.
Q: I would like to find out if a product exists which permits remotely using a mechanical switch to power cycle a diesel generator. Maybe one that has an IP which I could connect to or uses RF. Literally just turn on/off the power without interacting with it physically.
Should be doable, except I can see a problem - How will you know if the thing started or not ??
Q: Couldn't one say with certainty they are changing the environment in ignorance?
Sure. They're trying to warm the earth because it's really %@!ing cold down there.
Q: If oil prices went super crazy.
People, when you see a locomotive pulling other locomotives doesn't mean they're all doing the work to carry the load. SOmetimes they are just taking them to a different location, or to a shop or if it's a long trip they will rotate them. The diesel locomotive will not be replaced at least for the next 80 years. They came up with ultra low emissions anf fuel efficient locomotives made my General electric. As for 100% electrical locomotives, hmmmmmmm I don't see that happening, they would have either a cable on top or on the rails to energize the locomotive and would be too hard to maintain in case of floods, rain, wind.
