I have heard that CNG kits are available in the market and CNG is much economic and eco friendly. Please comment if you know about it. Is it possible ? and how much will be the cost for the conversion ? What are the steps involved ?: Not completely. A diesel engine is a compression engine hence it's the compression that ignites the fuel, natural gas doesn't ignite easily under compression and therefore requires a spark for ignition. However, it's possible to mix natural gas with the intake air but reduce the diesel fuel injectors so that a small amount of diesel fuel is injected, the diesel fuel ignites under pressure and this ignites the natural gas. Basically, it can mostly run on natural gas. Such a conversion requires some way of reducing but not eliminating the diesel injected as well as mixing in the natural gas preferably in proportion to the amount of air or according to the needs of the engine somehow. As it requires changing the fuel injector programming, this is not a conversion that is easily available but kits are available. A more practical conversion for a diesel car would be a waste vegetable oil conversion though I would consider a natural gas conversion suitable for a backup power generator especially if the conversion still allows for full diesel operation when needed. Diesel keeps much longer than gasoline when stored.

Q: Hi, i have a peugeot diesel conected to an 8kw alternator via a lay shaft engine 2275rpm alt 1500rpm at 2250rpm engine produces max torque 70lb ft, alt should only need 33lb ft. under heavy load engine allmost stalls. I think i need avr control? Can you help with advice and componants? Many thanks Andre: You have to set up a speed control of some sort. There are electronic versions out there that run off the frequency of the alternator. They are not cheap. It is surprising just how much power is required to produce your desired electrical output. I have a large diesel direct coupled to a four pole alt.with mechanical speed control also for 1500 rpm for 50Hz 240V and have also found a little issue when welding with it. If the governor is set for the load it can over rev a bit - if set to be perfect without load it struggles to get back up to 230V if welding at 120A plus. It's been easier to live with it in the end. If you are stalling out you will have to do something about a reliable speed control - check out the quality alternative energy companies that actually install RAP systems and ask about the control setups they can provide for exactly your situation. Keep looking because there are systems that will fix your problem, and give you a very useful machine! Good luck.

The batteries would only kick-in for hills, boost of power, etc. I am interested in this design, anyone know if it works well? Can I use a 480volt 3ph gen-set to power motor/Drive for more efficiency/power? I already know about the volt,prius,leaf.: the main suitable batteries, of at present, purely artwork properly in properly defined temperature parameters. it is the crux of the subject; How do you get those batteries to accomplish wisely in sub-freezing to sahara dessert temperature swings, day in and day holiday? think of roughly it-the famous truck is designed to traverse those style of extremes in one day AND do all of it back each and every day, month after month and 300 and sixty 5 days after 300 and sixty 5 days! a real 4-season electric powered motor vehicle, which could carry out this properly, is the predicament of even the main adept engineer! Q: hiam in the process of purchasing a flat.under the electrical specifications, the builder has specifid the following. please explain me what does it mean by3 phase power supply with automatic change over switch and what does it mean by RMU Transformer with Advanced Features: This electrical specification describes some aspects of the electrical distribution system for a block of flats (apartment building in USA terms). A 3 phase power supply is 3 live wires and a neutral with 400 volts or so between any two live wires and 230 volts or so between any live wire and the neutral. Each flat would be connected to one live wire and neutral. A change over switch is a switch that can switch the load from one power source to another. It could switch between two mains connections from the power company or it could switch between the power company mains and a standby diesel generator set. An RMU transformer is a ring main unit transformer. The transformer would be the step down or substation transformer from the transmission line voltage to the 400 volt level. There would probably be one transformer for all of the flats, possibly two if there are two mains connections from the power company. The RMU designation indicates that the transformer includes additional components such as the change over switch and main circuit breaker as a single piece of equipment. Advanced features might include such things as transformer temperature monitoring, load monitoring, and remote indication provisions. Unless the features are enumerated, it isn't a particularly useful description. It may or may not include features in addition to the minimum required by government regulations. If you are purchasing only an individual flat, this might offer some assurance that the electrical system is modern and reliable, but it is a very poor description to offer prospective purchasers of individual flats.
