My experience AC generators have less maintenance issues than DC units. The control (switching) of large DC currents is much more demanding than AC and has a whole set of problems that are unique to DC. DC controls devices are typically heavier for the same power than AC AC current switching is easier due to the current wave passing through a zero point every half cycle. - I don't know about CA but where I live the predominant fuel for permanently installed back up generators is propane. Propane is used because generators can sit idle for weeks or months between power outages. Gasoline and diesel have limited shelf lives and fuel systems can clog with varnishes when not used. Propane has an unlimited shelf life and does not gum up in the carburetor. Natural gas is not available here. In places where it is available natural gas might be preferable to propane. Its impossible to estimate how much fuel you would use in a year. It depends how big your generator is and how many power failures you go through. Most generator manufacturers will tell you how much fuel their products use in an hour.

This may be a tunnel system that contains all the necessary utilities to support a community, business of some other area needing electric, gas, water, sewer, communications, etc. These are found both above and below ground level depending on environmental concerns, costs, etc. The generators and transformers used to supply various points along the corridor and may be located above or below ground depending on design. A UG designed transformer for instance could be used below ground. A generator needs to be driven by something, gas engine, turbine, diesel engine, etc. these may be located below ground but it will have to have an external exhaust port somewhere. - Siphon the fuel out, and discard, or save it for starting fires! j/k! Then fill it with fresh gas, and it should be fine. It may run a little rough at first, but once all the diesel has cleared out from the carb, it should run normally again.

I would ask why don't you mount a Onan Micro quite or light into the side or front of your fifth wheel---but with out seeing your trailer I have no idea what to recommend
