Q: I get conflicting opinions from mechanics about extended shut-down.I am parked for 3 months and driving is not an option. Should I re-start my diesel engine weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or just wait the 3 months and re-start then? If so, should I just restart as normal?I do know when I re-start, I must wait until normal temperture is reached prior to shut down, this could take 20 minutes or longer with the rear mounted engine. The radiator covered from the outside will not warm-up as fast as a front mounted engine. Covering this radiator from the inside is not an option due to a shroud covering the fan.: if you are going to leave it sitting they can sit for more than a year and it will still run fine but the only question is the battery they can not stay fully charged so if not using then disconnect the positive side to the battery and when you want to use it just reconnect it this is the way i do to preserve the battery and for added protection add stabil (fuel stabilizer) to diesel if it is going to sit through the winter Edit : a battery charger is a good idea My parent's RV has a solar panel which keeps the battery fully charged but does not use the RV much 1 to 2 times a year had a stabil in it so far no problems but the generator is problematic cause it runs on gas so I had to start it every month to make sure there is no problems with it(run it for 1/2 hour) gas deteriorates faster than diesel even if it has stabil

Q: Diesel generator set how to put?: as far as possible to avoid the main entrance of the building, elevation and other parts, so as not to exhaust, smoke on its impact

Q: I have a 4 piston Diesel engine on my generator, I have a nasty oil sludge continue to build up every time, I have flushed the engine with engine flush liqui-moly probably six times, but after it is clean the sludge builds up again in couple of days, I got sick and tired of going down there and get all messed up with nasty oil.The engine produces while smoke continuously, not much but visible enough. I get oil coming onto the air filter, the place smells nasty because of this. The light bulbs flicker when running on the generator, it heats up fast and shuts off when I put load on it as an AC. Can someone please help me out and let me know what to do?: I forgot to mention that, the coolant level is stable, I have changed it already and all is fine is that area. I have done today a cleaning job, I mixed 3 liters of fresh engine oil with 2 liters of diesel, and poured it into the engine, ran it for 5 minutes and drained it, repeated that 3 times with fresh oil and diesel every time, I got loads of crab coming out till I finally got semi-pure liquid, then poured 5 liters of fresh oil with new oil filter, and then ran the generator and put load on it, no major change apart from no more flickering lights, white smoke still coming out and can not say if it less than before. If this does not hold water, I am going to take it to the shop. That is that.

Q: I have noticed that our kilowatthour meter reads backwards when I use some electrical appliances, please explain why. plgperera.: are you sure u dont have a diesel generator that sells el. energy back to the grid? jk Is this first time you look at the meter? If so take a look again, should be ok.

Q: 400 kva perkins 2300perkins 1106: Diesel generator is just controlled on output speed by speed governor.once load increases, speed governor senses that and increases throttle. If load is in excess towards DGset max performance, then speed will drop and dg set will be cut off automatically.

Q: generator is 730 kva.to check its working time, consumed diesel, i purchased a software.but i wish to know how i connect it with computer? is it safe? any precaution? any electric wiring diagram? is it safe etc. i want to use thumb scaneer as start and stop switch.: It really depends on how old the generator is. In the last 15 years or so the engine/generator controllers came with some of the things you seek. It really depends on the manufacture, (onan, kohler, generac,cat etc.) If your generator control panel is of a digital display you MAY have the capability. If it has dials and guages you probably do not. It can be retro-fit with new generation controllers that will give you what you seek. It would be expensive though,

Q: Do they look any different? I can not see the difference and I do not know which trains are electric and which ones are diesel. If there is any difference in appearance, what is the difference?: First off, all trains are electric, the only reason there is a diesel engine is to run a huge generator that supplies electricity for locomotive. but in a straight electric, first you would notice it is quiet and smoke free, no diesel egnines running. Second it has to have a way of getting electrictity to the motors while on the move, the most common and effective way is with overhead wires, the track will have lines directly over the center, and th elocomotives will have a device mounted on top that pushes gently upwards against the wires to conduct the electricity down into the control compartment of the locomotive. Look for the overhead device on top of the locomotive, very easy to spot.

Q: Im currently working on a DC generator design . I have my output set to 3000 kw . Any idea what's the usually assumed voltage for this rating ?: This is not possible or practical for any reason; especially using DC !!

Q: I am a programmer. And a engineer. Me and my team have been working on a project. Can't really put much detail in the project other than it needs to be powered by something heavy. This project consists of land and air activity so it is a electricity killer. We have tried a very heave battery and charger_ failed. Gasoline isn't an option in this case. We have tested many forms of electricity- but non seem reliant. It's been about 3 months since we have tried. Any ideas? Or should we just give up.: compressed air or co2 cylinders,fire extinguishers?

Q: I know that when a coil is moved between magnets, it produces electricity. how does a generator work without magnets ?one more thing I want to know, what makes the generator turn on when the light go out ?: Doesn't. Rotor (w/ magnets) spins in a stator (coil). When power transfer switch detects a loss of line power, isolates line feed (to prevent linemen from getting zapped), lines up load feed (to house or wherever) and trips starter circuit to gen-set. Or, you go out to shed,shut off your main, plug in your auxiliary cord, and pull-start the SOB.
