Q: I have to wonder. WHY don't we have a car right now in 2010 that gets 100+ mpg?Ok we have the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius that get 50MPG+ WELL why not DOUBLE or TRIPLE or QUADRUPLE the Batteries and get 100MPG??? Seriously WHY NOT PACK Enough Lithium Ion batteries in there to get 300MPG?? You mean to tell me that with all the technology we have today in 2010 that we can't come up with a Hybrid that gets 100MPG??? PURE NonsenseSomeone somewhere is keeping the 100MPG car from being produced. Simple as that. You mean to tell me that you can't pack enough Lithium Ion batteries into a CAR to get 100MPG??? Yea right. You know it could be done. BIG OIL and other political forces DON'T WANT the 100MPG car. Why did gas prices go to $4.50 per gallon??? TO get the $$$ While the Getting was good. Now the gig is up and they know it.
Lithium ion batteries are a good source of energy storage, but they have some very serious drawbacks: If they are shorted they can go into melt-down and start a fire, and that's the small ones the size of a quarter. Think what could happen after a car wreck - You could start a block leveling fire. There will have to be a better battery design before the electric car becomes viable.
Q: Hey Yahoo techies,I want to start a hosting company and I need to know where and what to buy for a server that has similar quality as server on BlueHost, GoDaddy, and 1and1. To help you organize an answer, here's a list.1 Server Parts a. CPU b. RAM and amount2. Server Rack3. Storage Databases4. Host Control Panel5. XAMPPS to install MySQL, PHP, Mercury, etc.6. High Speed ISP (Which ones? I live in Irvine, CA)I have no idea what brands and hardware specifications I need. Please tell em what parts I would need and which ones are best or adequate for a Host. Is XAMPPS and a CPanel License all I need to install??So is that all I need? Let me know if I need anything else to run a web host company! Software, Hardware, or anything at all. I do plan on having a office location to run the Host, it's not from home.Wamr Regards,Jason
You should consider a data center if you are going to do anything more than low traffic personal web pages and brochure-ware web pages. Data centers provide more reliable connectivity with a massive economy of scale. They also provide physical security, cooling, and power reliability you would not be able to achieve as economically. While you will eventually want to own the hardware, starting out you may not have the volume to justify it. How dose the cash flow series of buying compare to leasing at the beginning of your business? Depending on where you add value it may even be worth while to start as a reseller. Before you decide to host locally talk to your telco about leased lines, Service Level Agreements, and minimum committed bit rates. I hope this helps.
Q: From what I understand, when the earthquake struck, the nuclear reactors had shut down (control rods were inserted). As a result, the power coming from the steam turbine generators were shut off.At the same time, the earthquake had knocked out Japan's power grid, so power coming from outside the power plant was out. Then the emergency diesel generators went into effect, but was knocked out an hour later as well, and people suspect it was from the tsunami.Would the disaster still have happened if they kept the steam turbine generators running (which means never shutting down the reactor via control rods), and water pumping, instead of shutting it down and letting the backup power direct the emergency cooling?
As you point out it was the double-punch of the earthquake and tsunami that caused the problems at Fukushima. The diesel generators were enough to handle the pumps to cool the reactor but then the tsunami came and swamped them. Shutting down the reactor after an earthquake is standard safety procedure. The diesel generators were designed to be a backup in the event of an earthquake. They functioned fine even after the huge quake. If the quake didn't occur, but instead the planet was just hit by the tsunami, the other planets in unaffected areas of Japan would still be operating so this means the engineers onsite could have jerryrigged something so that the pumps would be powered by the national power grid even if the diesel pumps were knocked out. Not shutting the reactors down would have resulted in even more radiation being released due to the damaged buildings and containment units.
Q: how does a generator work powerlessly. i mean like if there is a black out people cna generate energy from like a generator. well then how come a generator work without the help of anything? (NOT TALKInG About the hydropower generator, the one that spins.
Generators *always* take some kind of mechanical energy to operate. In the case of a power blackout, backup generators use large diesel engines rated for hundreds of thousands of Horsepower, to run the electrical backup generators. Those diesel engines (obviously) run on diesel fuel so, there is your 'anything'. .
Q: i recently bought a reflux still it requires a 120 volt water pump to run it so my problem is i have the pump i just cant figure out how to get power i cannot use a gas or diesel generator cause it is to loud moon shining is illegal so the generator will get me caught i need a way to power the 120 volt water pump quietly and i don't got a lot of money in my budget so i need a way to power it for under a hundred dollars
You need a 12 volt to 120VAC inverter that can power the pump. If you can get your car near the still, you can hook the inverter to your car battery. You need to start the car every so often and recharge the battery. I hope you car engine is quiet enough. Might want to have a spare battery in case you run it down too low to start the car.
Q: I will put this generator to power my automated vehicle which have sensors, servo for the steering, motor for the rotation of the rear shaft, laptop for camera vision etc.
A battery powered wheel chair has everything you need. You can buy an old one cheap and fix it up to work as your automated vehicle. Use Lithium Ion batteries for maximum power or one of the new AGM car batteries that provide deep discharge operation.
Q: about diesel generator
Just as you said, in air cooled, air is passed over the engine usually by a fan. In a water cooled engine water is piped through the engine. In boats there can be raw water cooled or an enclosed system that recycles the water, cooled by a fan. In the raw water the water is drawn in goes through the engine and is mixed with the exhaust and pumped out the stern. Diesel generators generally have a radiator system. There are dual systems that have both.
Q: How much power does the generator from the diesel need to produce in order to bring the train up to running speed?
Power would be measured in watts (volts x amps) and for a diesel-electric loco it is going to be several thousand. A surge on starting to take up the train, then settle to optimum level as the train gets under way. Can't give you an exact figure as it varies according to different loco classes, load requirements, etc.
Q: I understand that it powers your stuff. But how does it get power? How long can it run before losing it's power? Please no physics, just a simple answer. Thanks!
simple words But how does it get power? it makes its own, to share with you, it turns a fossil fuel into electricity How long can it run before losing it's power? until its fuel is gone (depending on the size of the fuel tank, rough measure is 8 hours on half load on its tank of fuel)
