Q: Does any one have any experience with Kipor Diesel Generators?I know the price is really good. But are they reliable? Or will i shoot myself for buying another Chinese product?I'm looking at model KDE16STA
Dont buy anything Chinese. They are not interested in customer satisfaction or quality and just want to shift as much product as possible. The materials are usually sub-standard and the build quality is total rubbish! I guess it depends what you want it for? If it is a one off use and then you are prepared to throw it away then maybe consider it but otherwise spend even double the amount and get some equipment that can be serviced and that has a customer service and back up plan. It will be more value in the long run. It is also more patriotic.
Q: I think i'm looking for 5000 watts which should cover my fridges and a fan and light, maybe the TV too. I also think I want 120/220v, and one that uses unleaded. What about horsepower and rated output? Are those important? What's the difference between say a Cummins Onan 6500 at Costco (currently $250 off) and a $399 generator of the same wattage on sale at Home Depot for example?
we have a 4,000 or 5,000 that we use at camp it has a honda engine and we run a 50 foot single wide trailer with lights that are from 60watt-100watt a small fridge furnace fan 50in tv water pump and sometimes a medium size microwave but lights will dim if everything is on we have had it for 4 years we keep in in a small 3 sided box with roof and stays outside all year we bought it at lowes
Q: I need a means of driving a 3 horsepower induction motor re-purposed as an induction generator which would coincide with specific cost-effective parameters. I ran the numbers in an excel spreadsheet and realized that the amount of gasoline or diesel required to run an engine appropriate for a 3 horsepower generator consumes more fuel per hour than is economical when the electricity is sold back on the grid. Over a month period, here's what I calculated:Run time in Hrs: 300.00 (10hrs a day, 30 days)Gallons per hour: .30 (1/3rd gallon per hour avg. consumption for 5hp engine)AVG output KW: 2.00 (3 horsepower generator)Fuel in gallons: 90.00 Price of fuel $/gal: 3.50Kilowatt-Hrs: 600.00Energy Cost: .08Net Profit: -270.00I've considered using a pressure cooker, wood pellet stove, and compressor pump as steam engine for an economical way to produce long-term torque, but am not sure how to modify the pump to operate as a steam engine. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
If you are serious about selling power to your utility; ask if they will accept inverter output. If so, an inverter can lock phase with fairly simple circuitry. Using HD diode isolation simplfies voltage matching. You would be wiser to generate low voltage DC from solar panels or a wind turbine. (Noise and pollution free.) Talk to a utility rep first to learn their requirements.
Q: HelloI am doing a question on my homework and im being asked to determine how long a tank of gas on a diesel generator would last a family if one tank produced 20kW of electricity. This family uses 2.052kWh of electricity every day. The problem i have run into is that i don't know how to determine how long tha tank can last with only those values, i have a feeling im missing something very obvious here. Any help would be great. Thanks!
Can you post the actual question as written? You have to be able to somehow get a kWh value out of the diesel generator. Otherwise, the answer to the question is 0 days. You can't put gas into a diesel generator and expect it to do anything.
Q: I want to know if someone put gasoline instead of diesel in my generator. I'm use to seeing dark yellow fuel in it and now the muffler is red hot
I think you maybe right. The Muffler should not be that hot. Don`t chace futher damage, drain the tank and start over. Diesel cools and lubes the engine and Gas will destroy a diesel engine quick.
Q: I have a Powermate Maxa 5,000ER generator need to know how to start it, it is 14degrees here right now. Thanks.
Coleman Powermate Maxa 5000 Er
Q: I figured it might be diesel generators but I wonder how all that works. I am curious person. LOL
I know that on ships it is deisel generators.
Q: How much power does the generator from the diesel need to produce in order to bring the train up to running speed?
I'll add to what Rango said here. It really does depend on the locomotive. It depends on the train too, as well as the terrain. It's a careful manipulation of the throttle sometimes. There are times where a train of empties will follow you around with no problem. And sometimes in those cases you have to watch the amp guage because the amps can creep up on you and you gain unwanted speed. This may be in throttle positions 2, 3, or 4. Then there's times when you may have 100 plus loads, and one of your three engines had to be shut down for mechanical problems. Then you wish there was something you could do just to squeeze out a few dozen extra amps while in number 8 position. One engine I really miss is the old SD-9. That was the engine I learned on even though it was older than me. It held on to the track very well, could pull all day long with no maximum amperage load times, and allowed you to feel what the train was doing as if you had your hands on it.
Q: For a new observatory in the Andes at 17,000 feet, we need to provide power continuously for 4 months. Requirement is 208VAC, 3 phase, 10 kW. The site is accessible by large truck, but connecting to the power grid is out of the question. We are thinking diesel generators and large fuel tanks. Any suggestions out there? Thanks.
Check with the manufacturer, they will have derating tables habdy. You would probably need something approaching 30kW. You need to know what the generator can actually handle. Some generators need to be used at a minimum percentage of rated load to operate properly and reliably. Caterpillar have a section that deals in generators. Because of the remoteness reliability would no doubt be an issue. Go for a known name brand.
Q: Aside from the fact that they just had a massive natural disaster and there resources are stretched to say the least, what is main reason they cant get the reactor under control? From what I've heard it's not receiving enough power to maintain cooling system so it can maintain controlled fission. In my limited understanding it seems the plant survived relatively unscathed other than there diesel generators being flooded/destroyed. The plant is currently on battery backup's which I assume are relatively large and cant just be switched out to maintain the cooling system. Is it just an issue of supplying enough power for the cooling system? Couldn't they park the the USS Ronald Reagan off shore there and borrow some power until stabilized, considering you could power a sizable city off its reactor?
the tidal wave was created by a nuke detonated in the ocean. They might have had a bomb inside the nuke plant. Now think of tidal waves and attacks against nuclear plants. If a whole nuke plant goes up you'll have nothing over 1,000 mile radius. It's time to close these plants.
