Q:I need a generator that will power alot of stuff, preferably cheap as possible, or any other power source of that kind.it will need to power about 5 normal appliances and a 600w bulbany ideas: Cheap as possible - go Chinese if you want to use it once a year and don't care if it goes paf at any time. Honda makes some good units if you want quality and back up. You need to add up the power draw of your five normal applications and your 600w lighting load. Add 25% and the unit will be adequate. If your appliances have induction motors you will have to have at least three times the rated power of the motor(s) to get them to start safely. If you need more than 3000 watts of constant power you should consider diesel, for longevity go for slow speed i.e.1500 or 1800 rpm engine speed. Price will range from $400 for a 2500w Chinese thingy up to at least $14,000 for a fully enclosed automatic 12KvA super silenced slow speed diesel unit on a slide. Running costs get high with the bigger petrol units. Inverters are good, but you will still have to generate power some how for the batteries - wind, water, solar, generator etc. Will be more expensive to set up but will be better long term for a cabin or similar. Now I wanted to know since the hummer is not like a bus or a really heavy Diesel equipment that i can work on it myself like a regular car or do i have to have to be a diesel mechanic to even work on it?: Diesel engines are very similar to gasoline engines. If you have the technical knowledge to work on gasoline engines then the same principles applies to diesel engines as well. I know this is true because I took the course for auto/diesel automotive technician certification. I rebuilt them both along with carburetors, transmissions, starters, alternators, and generators. The only difference I can recall are that the diesel engines required more or less air than the gasoline engines. Of course diesel fuels burns much slower than gasoline. Therefore diesel engines might have additional mechanisms to produce or reduce the quantity of air. That is all.

This is where you might wire in sensors to detect when commercial power is lost. You may install a relay to actuate those contacts. You can control that relay with a computer controlled module that is run by your software. The computer you have installed the thumb scanner on can control this. If the software is for this specific generator, then it may already include a remote start, as well as a logger to record start and stop times. Kits are often available.

Q:How to calculate fuel average consumption hours/liter?: Fill your tank to the very top, all the way to where it is almost overflowing. Then run the engine for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, hours, or however long you want but for simplicity sake do it at an least an hour or a whole 60 minutes for easy division (remember that a generator will use more fuel when it is being taxed by running something off of it than it will while simply running with nothing using its power). Then turn the engine off and refill the tank to the exact amount you originally filled it to while at the same time making sure you know exactly how much fuel you are putting in (use a measuring cup). Once you know how much fuel it takes to fill the tank to the point you originally filled it you will have the basis for your equation which will be: amount of fuel consumed (the amount you replaced) divided by the time the engine ran.
