- Q: i wan't to make a small diesel generator. I've access to all of the machines.which are needed in this project.i know about how the engine works.i don't know how piston rings and piston seals the combustion chamber,how to make them.how much power will my generator will generate.i wan't to make this generator for my PC.
- With respect, you're actually asking how to design and build your own engine. There are entire books on the subject, and you need plenty of diagrams as well. That's far beyond the scope of an answer on here. But if all you need is a 12v regulated dc power supply why not just get a model car or boat engine and see if you can hook it up to a car alternator from a scrapped vehicle via a suitable pulley gearing? It certainly won't be quiet though, and you'll need to ensure that the engine is either fan or water cooled and that there's a suitable exhaust outlet. Model diesel engines aren't very large, but there are larger scale copies of the old British Mills engine design made in India, and also various websites which give you details or sell you plans on how to build your own. Usually they have lapped pistons so don't need the complication of piston rings.

- Q: I would like to try a browns gas generator on a 3 cylinder Diesel engine to compare efficiency and save money and not add a turbo to the unit. I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience in this. I am also considering a natural gas flow to the intake.
- It would work about as well as it works on a petrol engine. Not at all. Forget it.
- Q: Design the logic circuit for starting an emergency diesel generator. For the generator to start, the generator must be disconnected from the bus, there must be sufficient start air pressure, and the fuel tank must indicate there is oil. When these conditions are met, then the diesel may be started. Presume there are senors to determine these values.
- This is just an and gate function. When the outputs of all the sensors are true and a start command is present, the output of the gate will go high to allow the engine to start.

- Q: I have been given a cheap diesel generator made from china. It starts alright, but seems to be reving very high and poping and spitting until it has ran for a while. It surges some times as well. I don't really like it much and haven't used it to power anything other then to load test it a bit. I have checked the motor and all it has is a simple governor on it with no adjustments? I am not sure even where to start adjusting anything on this. Any body have one of these and same problem? - So what did you want to do with this engine? It sounds like a stationary engine used to power a generator or pump or similar application at a constant RPM.
- Q: If it is that equation then if i ran a 500 gallon diesel generator under full loadsaying at about 3.5MPG will i get 1250 hours to get 52 days?!?!?!? or am i off on equation or my theory????
- Conversion? They are calculating two different things. The reason something would be measured in work hours instead of mileage is for the fact the equipment does not in fact travel under its own load or it spends more time at a stand still. Work hours tend to be used on a lot of construction equipment and other things that stay stationary for long amounts of time thus creating wear on the unit though it is not moving and adding miles so they use hours to calculate how old the unit is or when it needs to be serviced next. You can never get an actual equality from these two different units as one measures time usage/fuel and one measures distance/fuel if you were calculating to find a run time for example. ***additional*** There would be no equation for MPG that you are looking for if converting from hours. Are you looking for how much fuel is consumed over a length of time? That's the only way to calculate fuel consumption would be over time vs. over a distance as MPG is.
- Q: How would i get people to fund a bomb shelter. Of course i will guarantee them a spot for them and there closest 4 family members. I want to stock it and build. I also want to have at least enough food to live for 6 months for at least 25 people. I will also want a ton of water (not literately a ton). Also some sort of water purification system, ventilation, and a diesel generator.I only want to shovel out about 5 thousand of my own cash.Tell me about how many people i need, how to get them. - Wow. Um, hang on. This is gonna take a while to write out. Okay. First, you need to have it all planned out before you can get people on board. Have a blueprint of the bomb shelter and explain how it will work. You should hire an architect or engineer for the floor plans. If it's 25 people then you could have 5 rooms with two bunk beds and a single in each. For air ventilation you could have heavy duty industrial air filters. For food, I would suggest those emergency buckets that have 200 meals in them (they sell them at Costco). You should also have a little farm and fish tank in there do constantly have food replensished. When you have it all planned out then you could put an ad in the paper, Craigslist, or just spread the word. Make sure you write up a contract. I can't believe I answered this.
