And, unless you live in Phoenix, I think it's a very costly solution. BUT I'M NOT UP TO DATE! In 1998 I moved to an island without power. At that time solar panels were too expensive 'though most attractive. Wind power was a real alternative - but it, too, was too expensive. I bought a 5kw diesel generator - and put-up with the starting and stopping, the broken fan belts, the oil changes all the crap associated with having an engine on your back but it served us well: We ran that offensive sucker about two hours a day, it fed our batteries (we had 12) and we lived operating table saws, microwaves, lights, from them. Well: Your supplier can tell you the daily production-per-panel for your latitude you can build-in your own safety factor (need 1600? plan on 2000?2400?) Maybe go a bit on the cheap right now and have a fairly inexpensive gas generator as cloudy day back-up? (Actually, the back-up generator is not a bad idea wherever you live. If you're building, wire it in!) Man! Talk about a lecture!
Q:I just purchased a KOHLER generator 500 KVA would it be safe to run at 10 % load for 6-8 hours
500 kva is a big generator and I am guessing it is diesel. It is safe to run at 10% load however it is not good for the engine itself to make a practice of that. It can lead to lower cylinder temperatures and incomplete combustion over time. It is always better to run at or as close to max load as you can.

Truly it has to do with type of fuel to create energy. So using whatever type of fuel you want to create a specific amount of energy, say to move a vehicle, you end up not considering the type of fuel but the cost of fuel. Seriously, if gas was a couple of cents a gallon who would care about alternate fuels. When an earthquake strikes a reactor, it detects and stops working. Due to continuous heating in the reactor, it needs to be cooled down. This is done by electricity-run generators. But due to power crisis aftermath the tsunami, these generators failed. Then diesel generators took their place. These too failed to work. And at the end, battery-run generators were applied. These also turned ineffective. Now no measure can be used to cool down the reactors. Reactors will probably blast due to heating up and radioactive material will spread in the sky. Sorry, but your suggestion is not easy to apply.

The biggest human error would be building a plant on a major fault line. But if you look at the insanely high cost of building a nuclear power plant, the difficulty of managing it (as you see in the news now every night), plus the costs of dealing with nuclear waste that will be toxic for thousands of years, it is clear that nuclear power is ridiculous. The only thing going for it is that it produces near zero greenhouse gases. Solar, wind, geothermal and conservation are far better in every respect.
