Q: I'm a salesman for a welding supplies company, and a customer is interested in buying a diesel welder/generator for use in the paddock where he can't get electricity. While looking around I've come across a 200amp machine but it says it's a 200amp AC welder. it was my understanding that all welders are DC standard, and the AC current was only on welders to weld aluminum.: At 3000 RPM it would make 50 Hz. not 60 HZ power. My guess is that the speed regulation would not be good enough just because precise regulation costs more. It is rated for 75 Volts. It would probably be cheaper to buy a 10HP generator than try to adapt a welder.

Data centers provide more reliable connectivity with a massive economy of scale. They also provide physical security, cooling, and power reliability you would not be able to achieve as economically. While you will eventually want to own the hardware, starting out you may not have the volume to justify it. How dose the cash flow series of buying compare to leasing at the beginning of your business? Depending on where you add value it may even be worth while to start as a reseller. Q: Can you estimate the amount each year in CA.?What are the concerns/issues related to this application.: I don't know about CA but where I live the predominant fuel for permanently installed back up generators is propane. Propane is used because generators can sit idle for weeks or months between power outages. Gasoline and diesel have limited shelf lives and fuel systems can clog with varnishes when not used. Propane has an unlimited shelf life and does not gum up in the carburetor. Natural gas is not available here. In places where it is available natural gas might be preferable to propane. Its impossible to estimate how much fuel you would use in a year. It depends how big your generator is and how many power failures you go through. Most generator manufacturers will tell you how much fuel their products use in an hour.

Q: i know i asked this question before and received two answers but i should have given more details i need a inclosed storing device that would give easy acess to genator and would protect it from the elements thank you: I would like to help--but I need to know what size of generator you want 2.8 k-12 k ; and what type of fuel Gasoline, propane, diesel. I would ask why don't you mount a Onan Micro quite or light into the side or front of your fifth wheel---but with out seeing your trailer I have no idea what to recommend

Q: I have been given a cheap diesel generator made from china. It starts alright, but seems to be reving very high and poping and spitting until it has ran for a while. It surges some times as well. I don't really like it much and haven't used it to power anything other then to load test it a bit. I have checked the motor and all it has is a simple governor on it with no adjustments? I am not sure even where to start adjusting anything on this. Any body have one of these and same problem? It sounds like a stationary engine used to power a generator or pump or similar application at a constant RPM.

Q: Do you have more insights into this? Japan builds great cars, machinery, tools and high-tech products. Their bullet train is known for almost zero delays in decades. Yet with the Fukushima nuclear power station we have flawed tsunami protection in a location known for powerful earthquakes and tsunamis for at least centuries. I guess no one should be surprised by a ca. 50 feet tsunami at that location. It looks to me like such an obvious blunder. Am I mistaken? - And I mean no offense to the great people of Japan who so valiantly dealt with the terrible tsunami crisis that I admire this very much. Thank you.: Yes you are mistaken. The Fukushima station was designed to withstand average tsunami that had occurred in that area. However the tusnami that hit was much larger than any seen before in that area, or in recorded human history for that matter. Even if you could design a facility to withstand a 200 or even 500 year disaster, eventually you'll encounter something even larger, and then you'll be right back here whining about why did they only design the structure for a 500 year disaster, blah blah blah. Furthermore, such a facility would be prohibitively expensive and over engineered. Was it a risk to only design something to withstand a once-in-a-century event? Sure, but there's no such thing as 0% risk.
