- This is a difficult question to answer accurately. The velocity of the exhaust gas is highly dependent on the size of the exhaust pipe. A smaller exhaust pipe, a much higher velocity --- a larger exhaust pipe, a much slower exhaust gas velocity. A 2 exhaust pipe would have about 2.25 times the velocity of a 3 pipe. The exhaust velocity is highly dependent as well on the RPM of the generator. Double the RPM, and there is much higher pressure, and much higher exhaust gas velocity. An attached article mentions that the exhaust velocity in some unspecified gasoline powered car --- and at some unspecified RPM --- is about 240 to 260 feet per second. autolounge /tech/exhaust.html

- a Generator set can be AC or DC. More commonly AC, because most commercial machines and equipment is AC. Commercial DC gen sets are commonly found electromagnetic applications. Some are used in Traction applications like subways and trains. Some DC motor-generator sets provide the field currents for large commercial power Alternators/ AC generators as in hydro-electric dams. My experience AC generators have less maintenance issues than DC units. The control (switching) of large DC currents is much more demanding than AC and has a whole set of problems that are unique to DC. DC controls devices are typically heavier for the same power than AC AC current switching is easier due to the current wave passing through a zero point every half cycle. The AC voltage/ Power can be more easily manipulated through transformers. There is tons of information on this subject available on the net. Yours: Grumpy

- You have got to upload up the complete wattage ate up through your pumps and lighting fixtures. Then purchase a generator with a little bit of spare potential. If you seek 'transportable turbines united kingdom' you'll get a tremendous alternative of machines. If you forget 'transportable' you'll get commercial giants.

- That's an interesting question. They vary so much, dont know if there is an average speed that would be of any relevance. I cant really improve on what has been said except to add a few comments. as you might have guessed acceleration, all you can possibly get is very important at times. Newer locomotives have taken most of the fun out of switching, too much computer controls. With the older ones, that is what made the difference between just an engineer and a hoghead. 8 throttle (all you got) full independent brakes, relaese the brakes and close the generator field switch all at once was about the quickest move, not sure the speed you would get in 4 seconds but it would be too fast for a switchman to get on. When I started on the Milwaukee in the early 70's, we still had the old electrics. If a switchman started getting cocky an engineer would make him a bet, he would say you stand right here at the front of the engine and i will take off, if you can catch the rear footboard I'll give you $10.00. With a light engine he couldnt do it, those things took off like a rocket, they didnt have to build up any amperage waiting for the deisel engine to rev , the full line voltage was immediatly available overhead. P.S., this has been very difficult for me not to be at least a tiny little bit of a smarta**, takes a lot of self control. LOL

- machines are not design to run for month of course yes. Most common I know is diesel generators. But if you have fuel gas much better as gas normally has lower operating pressure and much pure in composition so lesser maintenance in the end. But not seen any caterpillar of gas design.

- It is about inertia and storage. Hybrid is a new technology and it is more efficient, but they lack performance something the American car market still craves. Did you know that all Diesel locomotives in the US are hybrid and have been for decades? The diesel engine charges batteries and electric motors provide the actual drive.

- Q: I have been given a cheap diesel generator made from china. It starts alright, but seems to be reving very high and poping and spitting until it has ran for a while. It surges some times as well. I don't really like it much and haven't used it to power anything other then to load test it a bit. I have checked the motor and all it has is a simple governor on it with no adjustments? I am not sure even where to start adjusting anything on this. Any body have one of these and same problem? Please I was given it, I would like to get a little service out of it , not just junk it Fuel, oil, air filter are all new.so? help?
