Q: If electric vehicles included a generator they could charge the battery while moving. It seems the best choice to me.
Because a generator runs on gas. And they do have regenerating chargers while the car is moving. They just are not a typical generator
Q: Hi GuysOkay i have been given the task of fitting a 240v generator to an RV in to one of it's closet spaces. It needs to power one 240v socket, charge the RV battery (standard battery on trickle charge) and power the shower which doesn't have a boiler as such it heats the water on a 'as and when' basis. Low wattage lighting also two 40W lightsThere is plenty of space. so I thought how about try and fit a generator than runs on renewable energy.I just need to know what direction I should be looking in. HydrogenSolar (Doubt it)Bio-FuelAnything else? Also, is it best to convert an existing design of generator, buy a new one or build one from scratch to fit?Any help would be truly awesomePeace
You need the power level, and I suspect it is very high. The shower is the problem, as it will use several thousands of watts only for a few minutes, then zero power for the rest of the time. Everything else is a hundred watts or so. If you could switch to a tank hot water storage system, where you can heat the water slowly, with perhaps 500 watts over hours of time, so it is ready for those showers. Perhaps even less. Hydrogen is not practical, as it is not readily available, neither is bio-fuel. Your best bet is solar, as you have plenty of space on the roof for the panels. You will need a charge controller, a few sealed deep-discharge 12 volt batteries, and an inverter. The batteries can store up power for the times you need it. The number of batteries will be determined the needed power levels. Again, the shower predominates. Get readings of watts used and time lengths, so you can calculate the number of batteries. .
Q: Elec. bill is too high, so I wanna run 2HP swimming pool pump via generator. It's 240V. How big a generator do I need? Is diesel less to purchase than gas? Is diesel cheaper to run? Can I run the pool say 6 hrs a day on generator designed for emergency back-up?
you can run the pool off a generator, but you will nedd a a heavy duty one, the generator is going to have to power the pump, in order to pump the water i say you need a a 420 v generator. lowes home improvment store has them.
Q: i have 350kw old diesel generator and want to calculate the exact consumtionption at various loads.
You will need the specific fuel consumption of the engine, but it is probably close to 0.5 pounds per HP hour or 250g/KW.h. That is specified for the output shaft power at the operating RPM. It depends whether you have a turbo charger, the fuel a little, the air temperature and barometric pressure. Make sure exhaust and air intakes are not restricted too. You may find for a gen-set that you get a set of curves with the fuel consumption for different KW output. These account for the alternator efficiency already. Contact the engine supplier etc for this info. Use KWh from the generator (volts x amps x time gives KVAh not KWh). The amps might be up to 20% higher, depending on power factor of the load. The reactive part of the load does not need power from the engine. This is why I say to use KWh not KW, as you can use ordinary KWh meters (which ignore the reactive load). Allow for the efficiency of the generator (which varies somewhat, especially at light loads). Let's say 85%. Remember it is exciting the field, so that must be included in the efficiency. Thus if you are using 350KW for one hour, the engine provides 350KWh/0.85 411.8KWh (412KWh). The fuel used is 412KWh x 0.25Kg 103Kg of fuel. Now you need the specific gravity of the fuel you are using. You can call the fuel distributor. Ideally this is corrected for temperature of the fuel with the engine running, remembering the engine heats the fuel in the day tank due to recirculation. Let's assume 0.85 is the SG, so that means 0.85kg/l so 103Kg of fuel is 103/0.85 121 liters. In practice it may be higher, especially if the engine is old and worn. This answer is something like the maximum consumption, full rated output, 121 liters per hour. OR 26.6 imperial gallons or 32 US gallons per hour.
Q: I have a 33 feet sailboat. I will like to power it with a wind generator for all our needs, including a little fridge and an ac its possible? How powerful should it be? Where can I learn more about it?
your okorder
Q: Going to buy another vital generator have 2 deals on the table . gas generac 8000 running watt $1350. new or 5000 watt kipon desiel used about 4 years $800. needs new battery. what would you pick and why? thanks
Diesel Issues: Regular oil changes - about 2:1 to a gas-fired generator. Diesel fuel is may gel in very cold weather - you may have to use a kerosene mix. Diesel fuel has a shelf-life such that you will have to add fuel stabilizers and run out the fuel at least three times per year (more in a humid climate) to prevent breakdown. You will have to change the fuel filter at least once per year. If you run out of diesel and cannot get to it - you are out of luck. Which leads to liquid fuel storage issues, shelf-life and so forth. Diesel fuel is a bit over twice the cost of natural gas as a fuel in this situation. Go with the natural gas unit. It is new, has a warranty and you _know_ that it will have no hidden flaws. Now, if by Gas you mean gasoline - go with the diesel unless you are in a very cold climate. Hands down.
Q: Hi.My diesel electric generator has a sticker that says Change oil every 100hrs. Use 10w-30 grade CC. But I can't find this oil anywhere. The closest I have found are 10w-30 Mobil1 synthetic oil (API SM/CF) and 15w-40 Pennzoil gold (with diesel protection, API CJ, CI, CF etc. /SM). Which one should I use? Thanks!
I beleive that CC is obsolete. Search diesel engine oil and find the one that matches your engine type.
Q: Hi and thanks for reading.I have a small trailer I am looking for a back up propane generator for.We have wind storms here that knock out power for days on end, about a half dozen times per year, so I'm looking to get some back up electricity, howeverMy lot size is SMALL, so is my trailer. I have a natural gas line, and gas furnace, so I only use about 1500 watts at peak times, so I figure a 3k watt generator will more than cover my needs.SOUND is a huge factor. I have the worst neighbors in the world and I really need something quiet. I'm looking for something with less than 60 ddb.I have seen a lot of propane generators that look good, but I dont know if they can be used with natural gas easily. I think so, but would love to hear if thats true, and they dont have the standby plug feature, which I need to save my fish tank, any know if this can be easily changed by a skilled electrician?Thank you. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
You can buy natural gas generators both new and used at swift equipments at various powers and fuel options
Q: about diesel generator
a rad, water pump , water hoses
Q: I have bought an ex hire Pike trafic signal trailer which contains a diesel generator. it looks very similar to this (
It's difficult to guess at exact ratings based solely on a picture. Check the generator housing for its specification plate. You can sometimes ballpark a rating based on the engine size. For each horsepower the system should be capable of producing approximately 500 watts. A 8HP engine is usually connected to a 4000 watt generator, 10HP for 5000W, 14HP for 7000W, etc. Many generators have two coils to supply AC output. For 120VAC output only the two coils are placed in parallel. For 120/240VAC the coils are wired in series and mid connection becomes the neutral. If the generator is presently capable of supplying 1kW, changing the output to supply 240VAC will still supply a maximum of 1kW. The maximum each output coil will supply at 120VAC is 500W. You need to separate the two output coils and wire them in series. Install a proper 240VAC outlet on the generator. The circuit breaker should be reduced to half of its present current rating.
