- Q:Hi. We're off grid and therefore installing a 3 phase Diesel generator. Each phase is rated at 20 Amps continuous(23 Amps max). we want to run 3 Split type ACs, one on each phase, plus some other small appliances. Our problem is that each AC has a start up current of 20 Amps, which will trip the safety circuit on the generator everytime it comes on.The ACs running current is only 8 Amps, but jumps to 20 Amps for a split second everytime the Compressor comes on.Is there a simple way to control the start up current on the ACs? I read something about putting a coil of wire on the input of the Compressor. I tried that with a water pump just to check if it works. The surge current was still there.Any ideas if I can use a Capacitor? If yes, can you tell me what capacity I should use? If you give me the formula I can figure it myself. We run on 220-240 Volts, 50 HZ.Thanks for your answers.
- Is it too late to switch to a 240 volt single phase generator of the same capacity? This would have a 60 amp capability and would handle the surges with no trouble. I don't see how a capacitor will help. If you are stuck with the 3 phase generator, perhaps you can switch the ACs for ones with 3 phase motors. That will spread the surge over the 3 phases. There are also soft-start ACs .
- Q:i have 45 kva Perkins diesel generator cranks, battery is ok,does anybody know why the engine doesn't start?every think looks clear!!!please help!!!
- Good, a general diesel engine similar to a Lister-Petter naturally aspirated will produce about 20 HP for an hour from one gallon of diesel. You will have acquired a few 45 gallon tank and about 28 horsepower. I`m no longer going to get my calculator out presently of night however i might advise that it might well run for 33 hours at full chat, but when the weight on it is small then greatly longer because it runs at consistent revs regardless of load, except the load is immoderate. As another be aware; A two stroke petrol is considered to produce 10 HP per hour per gallon. A 4 stroke petrol is regarded to supply 15 HP per hour per gallon. A gallon is 4.Fifty four litres. Engines with turbos equipped are an utterly exclusive story, as are latest lean burn engines. Hope that helped, high-quality of luck, Bob.
- Q:For hydropower how much MWh can be generated with same capacity plant?. (Because plant never run for 24 hours of the day we need a factor to calculate above value)
- just multiply 100 MW by the number of hours in a year to get MW-hr per year 100 MW x 24h/day x 365.25 day/yr 876600 MW-hr / year If it's not running 24 hours a day, just substitute the correct number. .
- Q:What are the advantages of diesel generator sets
- Advantages: 1 small noise; 2 low temperature conditions, easy to start quickly.
- Q:I want to buy a GENMAX HY6500 GENERATOR FOR 220/240 VOLTS but is wondering if this generator is good. I saw one sold at $1,239 and on another site it was $299.00. I was adviced not to buy Wolf power because of poor customer ratings. I haven't seen any customer rating for GENMAX. I guess this is a Chinese company. The problem I am having in US is that I canot get a 50hz 220-240 volt generators. All I get is 60hz and I am told thy wouldn't work for Africa. Can anybody help?
- There is very little equipment made for one frequency that won't work just fine on the other frequency, (50 vs 60 Hz). The only problem you would run into is where a synchronous motor needs to run at an exact speed, such as tape recorders. But almost everything made today will function just fine on either 50 or 60 Hz. Actually, a 60 Hz generator can be made to put out 50 Hz by re-adjusting the governor to run the motor a little slower. For instance, if it is a 2-pole generator operating at 3600 RPM, the motor could be adjusted to run at 3000 RPM. If the generator was 4 poles, designed to run at 1800 RPM, readjusting the governor to run at 1500 RPM would do the trick. The only problem you might encounter would be slightly lower voltage - 100/200 Volts - but the the automatic voltage regulator should handle that just fine by increasing the field voltage/current.
- Q:I have diesel generator and when I loaded it up to 400 KW trip due to low ferquncy in which its total load 905 KW after I check up , I think that because fuel is not increase to feed injuction pump so that I want to know how actuator working ?
- By the revolutions of the generator, or the (presuming AC output) frequency of the power generated. If the frequency is low, the revolutions are low. If the revolutions drop off when load is added, or frequency falls, you have a problem. somewhere.
- Q:For 100Kw generator, what will be minimum/ maximum loadfor its safe operation.
- The maximum load will be given by the exhaust temperature, regardless of the nameplate rating. There is a maximum steady state temperature, which can be exceeded for short periods, say, 10 to 20 %, given by the engine mfr. The minimum load for an engine which runs at constant speed, i.e., a power generator, is about 50%. Below that it starts to shake dangerously. . .
- Q:I'm a student majoring in Architecture one of my class, Building Utilities, needs me to survey a high rise building. In my team, we divided the parts bc there are so many and one of my job is to electricity. Can someone explain to me the meaning of phase, R.P.M, power factor, and (especially) their respective units/numbers from this picture
- Phase is 3Φ 4W, which means three phase, four wires. Three wires for each of the phases and one wire for the neutral. There are two ways to connect 3 phase generators, ywe which looks like the letter Y (3 or 4 wires) or delta which looks like a triangle (3 wires). Voltage is 380/220V, which means a wye-connected generator with two voltages available. For heavy loads like heating and motors, a line voltage of 380V, measured across two of the phases, is available. For light loads like lights and outlets, a phase voltage of 220V, measured across a phase to neutral, is available. The use of 380V means smaller conductors can be used. When the generator spins at 1500rpm (revolutions per minute), the output frequency is 50Hz. N 120 f / P P 120 f / N 120 * 50 Hz / 1500 4. The generator has 4 poles per phase. Since it is an even number, the generator is a synchronous generator. Prime is the Apparent Power S in kVA that the generator set is capable of providing for an unlimited number of hours per year. In this case 600kVA. But as a Standby Generator (Emergency) operated less than 500 hours/year, the apparent power S is 660kVA. Current is 1003A. This is the rated current that can be supplied to the building at 380/220V. S √(3) V_LINE I_LINE I_LINE S / (√(3) V_LINE) 660kVA / ( √(3) * 380V) 1003A Power factor 0.8 lagging, which means at worst case the loads attached to it can have a power factor greater than 0.8. Power factor P / S. P S * pf 660kVA * 0.8 528kW The Real Power P or W loads the generator can supply are 528kW. So it can supply 5280 100W light bulbs, for example. If power factor is 1, 660kW could be supplied. There should be an electrical switchboard close to the generator, which will have labels showing how power is fed throughout the building. Everything else is specific to the device (Model, Serial, etc). Probably too much information for you, but when you are trying to understand something too much is better than too little.
- Q:can u give me a job description power plant operator using diesel ingine
- Diesel Motor turns a AC Generator. Diesel Motor turns a Water Pump, for Cooling.
- Q:I am looking to save money on the electric/gas bill this winter and am considering a diesel generator to supply domestic power at 240 volts. Is this practical?
- Home made electricity from a generator is more expensive than that from a supplier. They get huge bulk discount on fuel and their equipment is way more efficientt. But, and this is quite a big but. if you also use a heat exchanger on the exhaust and use the engine cooling system to heat your house, you win hands down. Think of it as either sightly more expensive electricity and free heating, or slightly more tricky heating and free electricity.
