- Q: A couple years ago the power in our area was out for two whole weeks because of ice and such, we stayed warm thanks to gas heating but now I'm in an all electric mobile home in the same area. All I want to power is the refrigerator, deep freeze, microwave, one laptop and at least one, maybe two little plug in heaters.I need to know what size/type generator to get and if I need a separate kit or anything in order to hook up to my mobile home. I don't want to buy the wrong type or size and find out it doesn't work in the middle of an ice storm again.Thank you for any and all help, it's very much appreciated.
- add up the watts of the things you want to be on during an outage and get a generator with a little bit bigger output. you don't want to overwork a generator that's too small. bigger is always better.
- Q: I need these values for 400 KVa and 150 KVa plants in order to run an air pollution computer simulation. Thanks!. Volumetric flow is not useful for me,because i don't have any information about flow areas or diameters.
- This is a difficult question to answer accurately. The velocity of the exhaust gas is highly dependent on the size of the exhaust pipe. A smaller exhaust pipe, a much higher velocity --- a larger exhaust pipe, a much slower exhaust gas velocity. A 2 exhaust pipe would have about 2.25 times the velocity of a 3 pipe. The exhaust velocity is highly dependent as well on the RPM of the generator. Double the RPM, and there is much higher pressure, and much higher exhaust gas velocity. An attached article mentions that the exhaust velocity in some unspecified gasoline powered car --- and at some unspecified RPM --- is about 240 to 260 feet per second. autolounge /tech/exhaust.html
- Q: What is the difference between a diesel generator and a super silent generator?
- Super silent diesel generator is also called: low noise diesel generator,
- Q: and what would allow the most crop turnovers of growth? Hemp???
- yes as long as the generator has been retro-fitted to use biofuel and not petroleum. A diesel generator would do this best Probably algae would be the best thing to use as you can get several generations a month from it. hemp takes a long season to grow and really only the seeds would have enough sugar to be used to distill biofuel. Beets (which you can get several crops a season from as they are fairly fast growing) would be far better than hemp for fuel as you want high sugar or starch crops (starch can be converted to sugar). But why run a generator on biofuels when it would be easier to run it on solar or wind
- Q: I read about it in an old Mother Earth news (1993?) The car was mainly powered by the gen. The batteries would only kick-in for hills, boost of power, etc. I am interested in this design, anyone know if it works well? Can I use a 480volt 3ph gen-set to power motor/Drive for more efficiency/power? I already know about the volt, prius, leaf.
- Good luck driving a car wiht a 10 horsepower motor.
- Q: How many gallons of diesel would br required to run this generator for 24 hours??
- Consumption of fuel is actually dependent on the model used so it can vary, your best resource is to get the figures from a manufacturer, take for example the Generac II Emergency Power Systems provide a Diesel Model EPS-8D see link below for full specs: So if we based on this model which consumes 0.88 gallons per hour, running for 24 hours would eat up 21.12 gallons of diesel per generator. As to the amount of current you wish to get that would depend on other set up and implements that you hook to the generator. You may need more than 1 generator to get the total amperage that you are looking for. See the equipment specs.
- Q: i mean from off state to ON State, the amount of diesel it reqiures to burn out.
- Very little. Less than it takes to run at power while underway. The fuel lines are only so big, and it can't flow fuel any faster than that. There is a myth that machines take a LOT of energy to start up. Some people say it takes as much power to start your PC as it does to run it for 30 minutes. The same is often said of fluorescent lights. That is not true - it is essentially never true. It is used as an excuse to avoid shutting the thing down. Why can't they? Because the pipe or wire supplying the fuel/energy is only so big. If a PC took that much energy to start up, it would trip the circuit breaker. The energy also would have to go somewhere, and energy always goes away as heat. A massive surge of startup energy would be a massive surge of heat, which usually burns or explodes a thing. So no -- devices generally do NOT use massively more energy to start up than they do to stay running. Some times might have a startup surge of double, or perhaps triple - such as a hard drive or compressor spinning up. But nothing more than that, and only for an instant - too fast for most circuit breakers to trip.
- Q: If global warming is as bad as Scientists say, two hours a month without power seems like a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things. I'm sure theres a way to keep hospitals running and emergency services running. All shops would have to lock down I guess people would start rioting or something, but I would think there would have to be some sort of way to covertly have different towns and counties shut down for a couple hours discretely each monthmaybe at night when people are sleeping? Just a thought.
- A nice thought but not practical, power can't be saved for later and if it was the world is a 24/7 operation, with never a good time to shut it down. Acid rain was going to destroy us at one time, now nobody mentions it
- Q: I have a Powermate Maxa 5,000ER generator need to know how to start it, it is 14degrees here right now. Thanks.
- Coleman Powermate Maxa 5000 Er
