Q: ANDwhat kind is it? How many times have you had to use it? How many things could you run on it? How much did you spend? Would you buy one with more power next time, or is the one you have sufficient? What types of problems have you had with running it. Do your neighbors always ask to hook up to it?
I have a Generac 5500XL generator. It's been used on several occasions, the longest being 3 days after Hurricane Juan blew through Nova Scotia in September 2003.
Q: HelloI am doing a question on my homework and im being asked to determine how long a tank of gas on a diesel generator would last a family if one tank produced 20kW of electricity. This family uses 2.052kWh of electricity every day. The problem i have run into is that i don't know how to determine how long tha tank can last with only those values, i have a feeling im missing something very obvious here. Any help would be great. Thanks!
Can you post the actual question as written? You have to be able to somehow get a kWh value out of the diesel generator. Otherwise, the answer to the question is 0 days. You can't put gas into a diesel generator and expect it to do anything.
Q: how does a generator work powerlessly. i mean like if there is a black out people cna generate energy from like a generator. well then how come a generator work without the help of anything? (NOT TALKInG About the hydropower generator, the one that spins.
Generators *always* take some kind of mechanical energy to operate. In the case of a power blackout, backup generators use large diesel engines rated for hundreds of thousands of Horsepower, to run the electrical backup generators. Those diesel engines (obviously) run on diesel fuel so, there is your 'anything'. .
Q: A friend and I have been tossing around ideas about the future of the human race, and are coming more and more to the conclusion that we're all going to hell in a handbasket.Virtually ALL religious writings make reference to pockets of humans living past Armageddon even though civilization itself is pretty much gone. Humans will continue on the level we were on several hundred years ago, in small farming communities, doing most work by hand. The problem is to survive long enough to establish such communities.MRE's and other long-life foods are fine, but pretty expensive. If you're talking about feeding hundreds or thousands of people for several years, we have to get back to something like dried beans and rice. The government does it. How?What is the best way to store grains and beans? Metal drums rust. Plastic drums are succesptible to rodents. Are silo's necessary? If so, what is the LONGEST rice and beans will last? Years? A decade? What do you think?
Well, if you're serious about it, you only need the rice and beans for a year or two. You need seeds, though, and a good book on farming. You and your friend can get a pretty good farm going on your own and grow more food than you need by yourselves while you wait for others to join you. You should look up sustainable farming and research into what the Native Americans were doing before we got here. There's no sense in starting up a new civilization with the same old bad practices of the one that just fell. You could also get some books on edible plants in your area and the areas around it. Global warming and pollution may kill off a lot of the plant life, but there will always be the perfectly edible dandelion. Anything that kills off all the plants is also going to kill you, so you might as well know how to supplement your diet with fresh stuff. With your surfeit of food in the new landscape, you'll probably want to invest in walls and maybe guns. For storage, you could always go old-fashioned. The link below has a lot of great resources for the pre-Industrial Revolution minded, but it also tells you how to make storage bins. You could also look up bell-shaped storage pits, which are another favorite method of storage, and one that was remarkably effective. Heh, I've thought about this a lot, too. Can I join your group if disaster finally falls?
Q: Hi, I am trying to find a video or text based tutorials for backup generator on internet but i was unable to find a single. i am trying to find complete tutorial of mechanic and how to fine tune generators. hope here anyone knows about it.
I am generator technician, what specific things are you looking for?
Q: I just got sworn in a few weeks ago to the navy, as an engineman. I was wanting to be on a carrier but didn't know if there was any jobs for the EN rate?
Most likely work related to the diesel generator or as an auxiliaryman. All propulsion work on a carrier is done by the NUCS. edit Enginemen are often assigned as small craft engineers, operating the engines on various boats carried by the ship.
Q: I'm estimating 81 mpg at best, and 47 mpg at worst.
A friend is getting well over 100MPG. But his journey is just about optimum for the car. Plugs in at both ends.
Q: hello,i was wondering to buy a diesel generator for my commercial truck so am i allowed to pick it on my truck?
My uncle has one on his truck. It is plumbed in to his fuel tank.
Q: I have noticed that many people leave their computers on all day for some reason. I would like to know why and if its better or worse for the computer than to just turn it off. Also, is it more efficient to leave it on?Anyway, the only thing I would like to know is why do many people leave their computers on all day and if you are one of them, why?
I leave mine on all the time. I only reboot weekly. It doesn't hurt anything and I don't have to boot every time I want to get online.
Q: An electrical power system consists of identical diesel generators, each generator. Has a constant failure rate of 0.5 per year. Calculate the reliability of the following arrangement-three months after the initial commissioning date. 1. Only one generator operating. 2. Only generator operating, one generator standby. 3. One generator operating, two generators standby.
0.5 failure per year would mean 1 failure per 2 years. Keeping the generator off for 2 years is no good, it may not start. It is best to operate the machines at least once every few months for some length of time. The longest time to failure is usually achieved by sharing the load and operating all equipment simultaneously. This method is very application dependant! Hope this properly answers your question
