- you didn't say what yr and model of car or truck..You can get a rebuilt water pump for about 30 to 50 dollars,according to make and model,thermostat about $8..now the kicker is getting someone to put it on..that is where the money comes in...so ,I say $60 tops... Its is easy to do,Do you have any friends or Family that knows anything about cars? If you do that is your best bet...I could have it in and out in 45 mins..Sorry..

- If your pump is rated to run 24/7 you can leave it running. To save electricity you could get a simple timer and set it to run for 30 mins 2 or 3 times at night and run all day. Or you could have it coming on/off at various times thru day night. This should keep water oxygenated enough

- the wheel that holds the 3 belts that goes onto the water pump is called the pulley. You may need to check the old water pump for a spacer between the pump and the pulley. If the tube is not straight you may need to turn it some. Verify that you are not putting the pulley on backwards. Although the auto parts store claims that it is the right water pump, they may be wrong, and may have given you the wrong one. To find out lay the side that goes against the engine on a flat surface next to the original to see if the height is the same for the shaft that the pulley goes on. If you cannot solve this you may want to take both water pumps, the pulley, the bolts that hold the pulley on and the tube for the heater hose to the auto parts store and ask them. Often they have some experience in automotive repair and may be able to show you...the main difference between them and us is they will be able to see the parts, and we cannot.
- Q:I just replaced my submersable well water pump, the wire that connects the pump, the d switch, and the water tank. Everything was installed correctly and with the help of a licensed plumber. While the D switch is closed (providing power to the pump) the pump will run for about 5 seconds then shut off for about one minute. It will continue this process until the system attains proper pressure and the D switch will open, shutting off power to the pump. The pump is brand new. Why, when power is being supplied does the pump cut on and off? We have tested the current at the well head and it shows that 230 is being supplied the whole time that the D switch is closed, which is correct.
- 12 hours on a civic DX. I am a honda mechanic and I will say that this job only takes 2 hours, 4 hours if your slow and never done it before. Mind you this includes timing belt, water pump, cam seal, crankshaft seal, serpentine belts, valve cover gasket, spark plugs if needed, Honda coolant, and valve adjustment. If you are 1 tooth off on timing your Honda will run, but it will run very rough. Sounds to me like they may have the timing 1 tooth off, 2 teeth off and the car just wont run and if it does it will barely run. This car needs to be taken back and everything i told you should have been done and done properly. What probably happened is the dealer let an apprentice work on the car, since this civic is the easiest to do a timing belt on. However its still their fault that it was not done properly.

- was gasket replaced? if we are sure pump seal is failing..( check underneath at leak hole for drips e.g. tissue and mirror) then it can be swapped for a replacement and send back unit as unsuitable for purpose. are we running a hot engine? do we have an air lock? where air locks occur out temp gauge can show cooler than normal but engine in fact over heating. decent garage can sort.

Drain engine coolant. Install engine block coolant drain hole plug and knock sensor. Tighten Coolant drain hole plug to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.) Knock sensor to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.) Lower vehicle. Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector. Air intake duct from throttle body and Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor. Upper and lower radiator hoses from water pump. Heater hoses from water pump and throttle body. Electrical connector from coolant sensor. Reposition ignition coil and bracket. Air pump and bracket. Water pump bolts/screws (40) and stud (41). Water pump (37). Water pump gaskets (38). Water pump driveshaft coupling (39), and water pump driveshaft seals (156). Clean Water pump gasket surfaces. Water pump bolts/screws and stud. INSTALLATION Water pump driveshaft coupling (39), and water pump driveshaft seals using Water Pump Driveshaft Assembly O-Ring Seal Installer (156). Water pump gaskets (38). Water pump (37). Water pump bolts/screws (40) and stud (41). Tighten water pump bolts/screws (40) and stud (41) to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.) . Air pump and bracket. Position coil and bracket. Electrical connector to coolant sensor. Heater hoses to water pump and throttle body. Upper and lower radiator hoses to water pump. Air intake duct to throttle body and MAF sensor. IAT sensor electrical connector. Electrical connectors to electric engine coolant fans. Refill cooling system. Inspect for leaks, after running engine to normal operating temperature.

I pick up my car and get it home when I turn to get into the drive way there's this horrible squeal. I bring it back to Pep Boys and they tell me my water pump is broke.
