- Q: A Pump is direct driven by a 25 HP 900 rpm electric motor at rated load. In order to to double the quanitity of water delivered, it would be necessary to substitute a motor rated at____HP at____rpm. ans. 200 and 1800. not sure how they came up with this answer...whats the equation???
- N = (95 H.C)/D Where N = rev/min D = diameter of impeller over blade tips in metres H = total head in metres C = constant. C depends on the shape of the pump and normally lies between 1.05 and 1.2 Later edit. I'm not sure if you are aware of it but each impeller has it's own characteristic performance curve.
- Q: What is the difference between a High Flow Water Pump, Heavy Duty Water Pump or and Electrical Water Pump for a street rod? I have a 77 Camaro with around 410hp with the factory A/C. The Camaro is stock as body, frame and interior. I want to enjoy the car vs racing it. I would like to go on trips to visit family out of town which is around 300 miles and be able to drive the car with out having over heating problems.
- High flow is just that. It flows more coolant than stock Heavy duty is one with alittle bigger impeller shaft and disk Elec. water pump runs on 12 volts, no belt You should not use an elec water pump on a street car, those flows less coolant and do not last as long. I recommed a Milidon high flow water pump for yours. I'm running one of those, a summit 31x19 alum rad, and a ford turus 2 speed elec. fan on a 500 HP engine in a camaro and never have any cooling probs.. Even on 6 hour one way non stop trip in 90-100* weather during the summer
- Q: I want to buy a 2000 Audi tt coupe that seems to be in good condition. The owner mentioned he has replaced the water pump. What could the reason be for having to replace the water pump? Could the car have over heating issues?
- IT is EXPECTED that you replace the WATER PUMP and TIMING belt at 100k mile INTERVALS on ALL audi cars! The KIT is about $250 from CONTINENTAL using a HEPU water pump! It is ALSO NORMAL to FLUSH And FILL ALL FLUIDS at 100k mile intervals as well, even the BRAKE and STEERING FLUIDS! Consult with BLAUFERGNUGEN and 1-800-ALL-AUDI and 1-800-ALL-EURO. ALL small engines with TIMING BELTS require PUMP and BELT changes at 100k mile intervals! The AUDI has BOTH a timing chain AND a timing belt! AUDI REQUIRES THAT SPECIAL SYNTHETIC OIL that is EUROPEAN with the numbers 502/505 PRINTED ONTHE AALBEL! NO VALVOLINE may be used in ANY EUROEAN CAR! GOOD LUCK!!
- Q: I have an 8 gpm pump at a depth of 170 ft, I am pumping the water 2000 ft in a 1 1/4 inch line. I need to know how many gallons per minute I am getting.
- You have already stated the volume as 8 gpm. There is an elevation head of 170 ft, a friction loss of 1 1/2 ft/100 ft at 8 gpm for and additional 30 ft. of head, You did not state what the service pressure was supposed to be at the delivery point. so the total head required of the pump will be 200 ft. or more if a pressure is desired. Add 2 1/3 ft of head for each psig of desired pressure. Because of hydrodynamic design limitations of the pump impellers, you will never find a centrifugal water pump for sale with that low volume combined with that high head. You will need a positive displacement water pump having an approximately 8 -10 gpm capacity at 200 ft head (87 psi) or more, depending on that pressure. You cannot lift water farther up than about 25 feet with any kind of pump because of the thermodynamic properties of water under negative suction pressure. Deep well pumps are lowered down into the well and submerged. The well may have been drilled 170 feet deep, but the water will probably have risen up into the casing. The actual depth of water may be much less than 170 ft. That will need to be measured You will need 3/4 horsepower as is and 1 hp with 20 psig of pressure at the delivery point.
- Q: My 2000 Chevy Cavalier (2.4L) has been overheating pretty majorly (within a 10 minute drive!) when it's been super cold out, about 5F. I took it to the shop and they told me it was my water pump. Right after getting out of the shop, the problem went away for an entire week and the car's temperature has been at exactly what it's been for years - never past 195. It seems to be back now, though not as severe. It's about 20F now.Could the weather have to do with this??Why would the problem go away like that?I'm female and definitely do not seem educated walking into a shop so they can really tell me anything and I'll buy it. I just wanna see if the problem going away like that makes any sense, or if I should just wait out long trips until it warms up outside. It doesn't look like I'm losing coolant, though my low coolant light goes in and out.I have no idea. Thoughts?Thank you!!
- The thermostat is on it's way out..and is sticking closed. Get a new thermostat installed and the engine coolant flushed and filled with a 50/50 mix. If it were the water pump you would have been loosing coolant and the problem would not have been intermittent. Take it to another shop as they are trying to rip you off for a water pump. Replacing a thermostat and flush is not that expensive ..
- Q: I was vacuuming up water from my basement I assumed was from the rain, suddenly water started spraying out of a blue pump at the base of my furnace, don't know what the pump does or why its spraying but its making an awful mess.
- Blue pump, usually found on the floor near the furnace (sometimes mounted where plenum meets the furnace frame) is a condensate pump. One of the products of combustion is water. This water is drained from the ventor motor (a motor which runs and sets a artificial draft inside the combustion chamber) to a drain nearby or a electric pump which then pumps the water over a longer distance to a remote drain. If the pump's discharge outlet gets plugged from dirt the result is usually the mess you see. Remove the cover plate of the pump housing, clean it out and run a wire with a small rag attached as a snake through the tube to drain. There is usually some type of float switch inside the pump housing so make sure it is free to move. Check for operation by pouring some tap water in it and move the float switch to on (up) One final note and this is very important. If the pump or tube to drain is filled up with a crud that resembles paste, call your local trusted HVAC tech for furnace service. This condition can be an early sign of heat exchanger failure and is a major safety concern for your family
- Q: my water pump went bad on my 1997 chevy cavalier, causing it to leak all the coolant it had in the system. i put water in it til i could get new water pump. changed out water pump. attempted getting air out of system. put more concentrated coolant in system than i did water. bad guessing on my part. ran car around block 5 times. it was fine. this morning on the way to work, it started overheating again. my thoughts : more air in system that's not coming out? thermostat REALLY went bad at same time as water pump???? overheating all because of a little too much coolant??? for some crazy reason, my system needs to be suddenly flushed? Your thoughts? one last thing, the car has always ran perfectly normal temp til water pump went bad.
- sounds like a air block in the cooling system. leave the radiator cap off and start it. the air will push the antifreeze out but once the air is out it will start to circulate. you will have to add more antifreeze before putting the cap back on. don,t forget to add some to the reservoir.
- Q: My dad wants to buy a salt water pump for a tiny pool.I'm not sure if it's pointless for the size that the pool is, but it is 12x12x3Is it too small of a pool or are there salt water pumps meant for tiny pools that I could look at?A link to any would be nice. :)Thanks!
- If you live the ocean try the shipyard, or any ,were around dock...or online..
- Q: could you explain the process by which water is pumped out of the ground for purposed such as drinking water or irrigation? Can you put it in terms a high school senior would understand?
- (1) Identify your potential water source through various methods. (2) Drill a small exploratory hole to different depths, test water pressure and water quality. (3) Drill the complete borehole for production and retrieval of the groundwater. (4) Complete the physical well, will a sheath to allow in the water at the wanted levels, solid pluge to keep other levels out. (5) Insert a chemical and physical filter system (small screen membranes, activate charcoal and diatomaceous earth, etc.) (6) Put in the submersible pump and plug it in. (7) The pump is made up of a motor, an intake and a centrifugal pump. It's all sealed so no water can penetrate through. The water is suctioned into the centrifugal pump, which is an impeller type device. The water is then pushed out at a much higher pressure rate than it came in. This is how the pump works from the bottom instead of above ground. The water is sent to the pressure tank, sometimes referred to as a holding tank, and is kept at a constant pressure, so when you turn on your faucet or shower, the water comes out quickly. As you use the water, more water is pumped into the tank and as the pressure drops in the tank, it will automatically come on and pressurize again.
- Q: i need to change my water pump on my vw 1990 gti. the more details and/or pictures the better or links i can go to to show me
