- Q: My 2005 Lexus IS300 is close to 90K miles and I believe the timing belt/water pump should be replaced. I have priced this with several dealers and mechanics and at this time I can't afford close to $1000 to have this done. However, I see there are kits that can be purchased for about $400.Can a DIY'er with above average mechanical experience replace the belt nd pump relatively easily?
- Alot depends on having the proper tools and knowledge . If you have the right tools you could try it but i have known a few people that tried doing there own t-belt and ruined there motor . I am not trying to scare you just don't want you to cause any more expence for yourself. The water pump is easy once you get the belt off . If you do try it heres wishing you good luck

- There are plenty of water pumps on the market, but solar powered? I have my doubts that anything smaller than a large photocell array would supply enough electricity for such a heavy load as a water pump. (I could be wrong.) If you used photocells to charge a battery, then used a timer to run the pump for a few minutes a day, that would probably do what you need. Another option, if the stream is fast-flowing, might be to use a paddle wheel to drive a pump directly, then have an overflow line from the tank back to the stream. That way your livestock would have fresh water all the time as long as the stream kept flowing. Most farmers are very smart at being able to figure things out and making them work, so I presume you could do this.
- Q: My toilet has a water pump to deposit water to the toilet and a floatie that will stop the flow. But now it does not flow water through the hose, instead it looks like it's clogged and water drips from the floatie handle. Do i need to replace it? Or could it be something easy to fix?

Did this a few times and finally gave up. Pump wasn't hot and impeller was still good. Wondering if I just didn't let it run long enough?

- When you change the timing belt you as well change the water pump as well. If you take it to anyone for timing belt change they will ask you if you want to change water pump because its convenient to change it out at that time. But if you dont have any knowledge how to work with the timing dont mess with it take it to someone who is knows what there doing because paying couple hundred dollars is better then paying thousands for engine rebuild or new engine.

- Q: We have 2 1995 E320's that are heating up way too high when running. One has been diagnosed at the repair shop for a malfunctioning fan clutch. They also said that as the car was running hot the water pump and thermostat should also be replaced (??) The water pump is 5.5 hours of labor and I cannot afford it right now. I was wondering how hard to replace it myself. Thanks
- I have a 94 E320 in the shop right now with the same issue , running hot but not overheating and i wouldn't even consider replacing the water pump cause i have found the fan clutch not engaging at all . and you need a second opinion . is it possible for a water pump to cause this issue ....yes....is it likely.....NO if the fan clutch is engaging and the car still runs hot but does not overheat the thermostat is most likely not opening completely (sticking) and not allowing proper coolant flow . or you may have an inaccurate CTS .(coolant temp sensor) either way find a place who can properly diagnose your car . i hope this helps you

- Steam coming from your headlight on a rainy night is NORMAL, since the halogen bulb makes a lot of heat. This turns the water into water vapor, (steam) as it attempts to dry out. If you don't physically hear the bearings in your water pump, or watch colored fluid drip out from under your engine, then your water pump is JUST FINE!!! STOP WORRYING! I answered one of your questions the other day. If you take my advice, your engine will run at it's best. For extra protection, drain and flush your cooling system out, and use Mercedes coolant. Dex-cool has been proved to be a potentially bad coolant. READ the dexcool litigation websites. Mercedes coolant, which is YELLOW in color, will last for 150,000 miles, and is a time tested WINNER!!! Use ONLY top tier fuels (read about this on web) and use ONLY synthetic oil, like Mobil One. CLEAN your idle air control valve and throttle plate. AND STOP WORRYING!

- ((( get a manual))) like has been said ..but here is some genneral proceedure::::// after loosening the gear case at the cavitation plate ,,,, pull it away from the leg about half an inch and acsess the gear linkage shift rod and undo the conecting nut,, then pull the gear housing away --- ((( when you reinstal it you will have to turn the propelor by hand to push the drive shaft spline into place ))) --<- then you will have the pump housing on the gear caseing .. just pull it off the shaft retaining the small key way that turns the impelor.. ::::::: replace the impelor and push the pump housing down over the impelor..,,,, as you push it down,, turn the propelor by hand so the shaft rotates and make the fins on the impellor bend away from the shaft ,,, make sure the shaft is turning the correct way ,,with the gear in foward ,, turn the propelor so it drives foward or if in reverse turn the propelor so its driving backwards ,,, there should be a gasket between the pump housing and the gear caseing,, if not ,, use some silastic ,,, ((check the manual)) <<<<<<<<<<<<
