Q: I have a pontiac grand am 1996 v6 with a 3.1L 3100 SFI engine. I have a coolant leak and I think it's coming from the water pump. When the car is cool and then turned on, about 4 to 9 minutes into warming up, coolant is hitting a belt and spraying out of the car's front end. When this is happening I see that there is coolant dripping off of the waterpump housing. The coolant started to spray everywhere about 15 seconds before the radiator fan kicked in. Why would this happen when first warming up only? Can a defective thermostat cause this to happen?
Mating surfaces of water pump slightly expand after warm up closing tighter on gasket in between, so the leak will not be as much. If you leave it, eventually it may get larger and will leak all the time. Change the water pump and/or it's gasket.
Q: I just bought a house and we have well water. When I went out to change the filter on the pump I noticed a valve leaking...I went to check on it and noticed it had two settings if you will. one says System and the other says by pass if I move the lever to system the leak stops, if I move it back to bypass the leak continues...question is which one should I have it set on and what is the purpose?
Okay, Adam, we also have a well and just put in a new one. The setting that says System means that the water is running through the filter. The setting that says by pass means that the water is NOT running through the filter. You will have water either way in your house (or you should). It is just either, it is running through the filter, or it is not. I hope I have helped. gram
Q: I was wondering if there was a device that can pump and cool water. What I am looking for is essentially an aquarium pump that cools the water as it circulates.
What I do for chilling wort involves a copper tubing heat exchanger. I have (right now in fact) a coil of copper tubing immersed in my hot liquid and I pump cool water through the tubing. It would work just as well with a pot of salted ice water and your hot liquid being pushed through the copper tubing. The copper tubing is the semiflexible coils you can get at a home store for $20ish. You'd salt the ice for maximum cooling but start the pump before submersing the coils to keep your water from freezing in the pipe.
Q: I bought a new water pump for my 89 S10 Blazer with the 4.3 V6. The guy at Autozone wanted to know if I wanted a standard one or the heavy duty. I bought the heavy duty one because it was only $5.00 more. Are they just built stronger or do they actually move more water?
Same thing, may have a cast impeller instead of aluminum. You wont benifit from it at all, and even if it did move more water it really wouldnt do you any good anyway, its not necessary
Q: Under what circumstances should we set up fire pool and fire pump room? Is it necessary to have a building?
Public construction property
Q: 2 inches of water pump is generally equipped with high-power motors
Clean water pump 5.5 kw
Q: Here is the deal...*Van over heats*Blows Cold quot;heatquot;*Added coolant and water (nothing happened)*Started van, felt the hoses (no h2o flowing thru)I really think my water pump is out, but I am not sure. Does this sound like my water pump. If so, I plan on changing it myself, how do i find step by step instructions to do so.... I have never done it before, but I cant afford to take it to a mechanic! Thanks for your help!
make sure thermostat is working properly and cooling system is bled properly to remove all air. If this doesnt work I would suspect head gaskets as Nissan engines in Villagers are known to blow head gaskets if ran hot for extended periods
Q: Mercedes 2000 ml 320. I changed radiator and water pump now car only runs half as worm than it used to. So now heat blows cold to little warm depending on how cold out side
If there is an air pocket in the system you will not get hot heat from the climate control system. If the heater worked OK before you replaced the water pump it's probably a stubborn air pocket. You need to raise the front of the car a good 12 and then rune the motor for 20 minutes with the radiator and reservoir caps removed. Have the climate control set to the hottest setting with the blower turned off or on low speed. Top up the coolant as the air bubbles purge. The heat coming out of the vents should be hot at idle, if it only gets hot when you rev the motor you still have an air pocket. Then try revving the motor up and down to 2,500 rpm and squeeze the upper radiator hose at the same time to get the air pocket to purge. If you can't get the air out you will need an expensive Airlift vacuum fill tool for the cooling system. Some vehicles such as Infiniti's will not purge the air with out using the Aitlift brand fill tool.
Q: im looking at a 87 bmw 325 and the only thing wrong with it is the water pump and cosmetic stuff.. its a cheap deal and i want to know if i could replace it with very little experience under the hood. rate it from 1 to 10.. 1 being as easy as changing your oil and 10 being i would probably have to take it to a mechanic..or jus let me know what you think.
well on my car it would be a 2 it was very easy only 4 bolts, my car is a 79 corolla. i think your car would be easy too probably like a 3 or 4. i can not believe the other guy answered a 10!? water pump is quite easy actually. just take off your fan and fan belt and then you can access the water pump easily. go have a look.
Q: I have a small leak in my water pump and my check engine light is on throwing a P0303 code and it appears the two might be related.
IF you've been running the car like that AND IF the car overheated then your P0303 IS related assuming the head gasket is blown at your #3 Cylinder. water /antifreeze will cause a misfire. as for the Bars leak thing. regardless if it seals or nor whatever amount not used to seal the WP will lodge somewhere else. Ask me how I know :-( if the car is salvageable don't wait, have it fixed. if you keep running the car like that you will cause more damage than what you can afford to fix later on. I have a car sitting in the driveway which used one of those engine block sealer(bad head gasket) the intake manifold water connector leading to the heater system was clogged up with the residual chemical not used to seal the head gasket, and must I say it did not worked. you might get away with it, but like I said the remaining product will end up somewhere else. your call.
