Q: I have a 2005 mercury montego premiere and just installed a new head unit. Everything worked fine. I have a pioneer head unit that plays DVDs but I didn't wire it to my parking brake when I first put it in. Today I decided to do so got it all out, then had an urgent call and couldn't connect it. As I was putting the radio back in, something sparked and started to smoke, (yellow cords where showing a little bit, might have touched metal) I took it to a car audio shop and tested the head unit, and it worked just fine. Could I have broke(shoted) the harness that connects the colored wires together and the other side connects to my car wiring(they plug in) OR could I have broke something with my car wiring. I checked audio fuses, they are fine. PLEASE HELP I BEG: The Yellow wire, is the Constant +12V. So, it is possible that you burned up part of the harness or factory amplifier if it grounded. Double check the fuse box under the hood, if you don't have power there. If it doesn't work, try the factory radio, if it works, the amp( if it has one) would be ok, and maybe you might just need a new harness. Double check all of your connections, and make sure they are secure, and completely covered. Good Luck!

Q: I opened Pandora's box when I started t.shooting my Sidekick's elec. system! Fixed some other probs. but found sparks from driver's side main wire harness at the door. Took door apart and found the main wire harness was jammed between the glass and window track and that the rubber protector at it's entry point was off creating almost a sawing motion between 5 or 6 wires and the hole cut out in the side of the door. These wires have been stripped of insulation and are in terrible shape. Can I buy some matching wire and just splice in new sections where it was damaged or do I need to go to a junk yard and rip out a whole new assembly to put in? Also do I NEED to solder them each together or can I just twist, secure, and seperate them with electrical tape? It's a 98 suz. sidekick and the systems directly affected are the power window and door locks which are occasionally working and blowing fuses because of thiswhen it rains it pours! Q: I broke the stock trailer wire harness on my 2004 Ford F150 XLT new body, and I'm trying to buy a replacement harness. I'm wondering if Ford uses a 7-pole round, or a 6-pole round. I don't do any camper pulling, mostly just pulling trailers for my snowmobiles and mid-size boats. What would be the more common, everyday plug, the 6 or the 7-pole round?: Did it go close to the plug ? The factory just unplugs the standard wiring harness at a plug right in the back of the bed, adds in the trailer wiring harness. If the plug end is damaged, you can you crawl under the bed remove the added harness replace it.

Q: I am totally clueless to this stuff. I want to get a wiring harness that will fit a Pioneer single DIN head unit and will also clip into my 2012 Silverado without having to cut any wires. Help?: Just go to a car audio store and ask for 2012 chevy silverado wire harness($10-$15).it clicks in to the part that was connected with the stalk sterio. They shuld be the same color as the ones on back of your new sterio,just match em and there u go!.you'll need a dash kit as well

Q: Don't know what the old wiring harness was hooked to, faceplate was ripped off, but I'm getting a Sony Xplod CDX-GT34W and I don't think it comes with one so what should I do. Cars a 97 Eclipse.: yes and no.yes u can use the wiring harness (presuming the previous owner bought one and hooked it up correctly) that hooks from the car to the actual head unit harness. ** no u cannot use the old head unit harness tho.so no it will NOT plug in.u will need to unplug the old head unit at the factory hook-up and then splice the wiring harness to the new head unit .the wires are color coded and labeled tho so should be fairly easy.

Q: i need a car stereo wire harness for a 2002 pontiac grand am, but i cant find one. i tried crutch field but it says none of them fit and i cant find one anywhere else: See where your oil fill cap is? That is the black cap on the front of the engine that says 5w30. That cap is screwed into the front valve cover. The engine has an identical valve cover on the back side. The hole will be on the drivers side of the engine and looks almost identical to the front hose that pops into the front valve cover.

Q: I am thinking that I do not need a wiring harness for my Alpine CDA-9884 to go into my 05 Colorado. I have both of the wiring diagrams so I know what all the wires do for what. Can't I just solder the matching wires together and bypass the clip part? Also, I understand that I need a 12v switched power lead so I am going to run the power to a fuse in the fuse box. Anyone know a good fuse to use that runs with switched 12v?Someone please tell me if this is incorrect, but from what I have been reading, it seems as though this is a fine setup. I don't care about losing the door chimes at all.: That'll work fine - and save you a few bucks as well.
