- Q: My toyota 99 camry stalled and would not start. engine turned over and all lights worked. had the oil changed 3 weeks ago and they told me their was a noise and it might be the water pump. my questions are does this sound like the water pump? Do they usually change the timing belt and is this necessary? is this something that we can do at home? thank-you for any info out their!
- camry requires special tools and not easily accesible. timing belt is a '' good idea for a 99
- Q: 1978 Ranchero 500. Pumps leaking like crazy. I have a belt to remove, which i assume is the serpentine belt? Its tight as can be on the pulleys. I have no clue how to remove this and any other advice on this do-it-yourself project would be much appreciated. Thanks
- being a 78 it probably has a V belt instead of a serpentine belt. you loosen the adjustment bolt on the alternator and the long through bolt, push the alternator and the belt should come off. you will need to take the fan off, it should have 4 bolts to take out to remove the fan. then you take the hose off after you drain the radiator and take out the water pump bolts and pry off the pump. now before installing the new pump make sure the gasket surface is clean and dry. put some good sealer on both sides of the gasket. to keep the gasket from moving i use string like thread and tie the gasket on. put the pump in place, put the bolts back in and tighten them, put the hose back on, put the fan back on and tighten the bolts and refill the radiator. if you want good sealer use what i use. i use indian head shellac. once that stuff gets set up it won,t leak. auto zone sells it in a small brown bottle.
- Q: Water pump is STILL constantly running! Since this past thursday, we did:new check valvenew pressure controlnew foot valve (well)well is not dryprime, air pressure are finewe have above ground pump in the basement. we called a plumber and he could do nothing! we have water and pump/tank and everything seem working fine. But the pump is on and off every 30 seconds - 1 minute. It is so annoying and out of ideas what could be wrong. My husband think it could be the tank and suggested that we replace it. But the plumber didn't say anything about the tank. And it is not too old.Do you think it is the tank and we need to replace it? If so, we will do it on this Sunday morning even though it might cost extra charge! please help!!!
- I had the same problem with this in my home and I fixed it by simply adding air to my pressure tank. where your well line comes in there you should have a water softener and filters and a tank for holding pressure in the lines. shut off the water to the house and start filling the tank with air until you get to around 46 PSI once that's done turn the house water back on. It should take a lot longer for the pump to kick on now. It's pretty easy and I would definitely try to do it yourself first before calling a repair man out. It'll save you a few bucks!
- Q: How long would it take before I would see water coming out of the exhaust bellow? I let it run for about 5 seconds or so and shut it of fearing it would burn up. Did this a few times and finally gave up. Pump wasn't hot and impeller was still good. Wondering if I just didn't let it run long enough?
- If you are raw water cooled it can take up to 3 minutes for the thermostat to open, and a little mist to start coming out. You should not run the engine out of the water, or without a flush attachment.
- Q: they say a water pump going bad is supposed to weep out of that hole....Yet I see that a new water pump kit has two gaskettes.some o rings....is it likely that it can leak from these sources and still not come out the weep hole? They talk about berring that could go bad or seals gone bad...does this occure in the area that gets inserted into the engine( the turbine portion of the pump)if you had to guess..where is the most likely area for a water pump to fail...if seems like I have wetness off to the left( back toward the firewall) and less off to the right( front of the car)..more off the left..it is very subtile off the right.I don't see anything coming out of the weep hole..BUT the weephole is directly on top( dead center)and back towards the engine in this model. I have the car jacked up on the passengers side/next to the wheel wellso the fluid is most likely to flow backwards toward the drivers side.
- Here's the deal. You have to look at your cooling system as a whole system, not just a collection of parts. What makes you suspect the water pump? Is the vehicle overheating? Are you loosing coolant? How many miles are on the vehicle? Everything is a clue to the answer. Where is a pump most likely to fail? Anywhere. A lot of times the impeller will break, but sometimes the gaskets rot out, sometimes the housing itself cracks, sometimes the bearing freezes up. Could be a couple different things. I am assuming by your description you have some type of transverse motor. Could a bad water pump be spraying coolant all over your firewall? Sure, but so could a bad hose or bad clamp somewhere. A hole in the radiator could spray coolant that far back under pressure, although you would probably see moisture around the radiator as well. It's impossible to say without inspecting the vehicle in person. My personal opinion, stay away from the big name parts retailers employees unless you KNOW they know what they are talking about. Some of them do, many don't. They are hired to sell parts, not diagnose problems. Even if they do know about vehicles they can't give an accurate diagnosis without looking first hand. You are better off to find a small local shop with a good reputation and have them look at your vehicle for you.

- Q: What is a 1 inch water pump?
- A pump with a diameter of 1 inches.
- Q: Which is the better option for a home water pump? a submersible pump or floor based pump?
- last week i got a price on a above ground pump it pumps water up from 100 ft. it sure beats pulling 100ft of caseing every few years
- Q: The water pump on my 1997 corolla has been leaking, I want to replace it by myself. I did some research online, and get the diagram of the engine structure. It seems to me it is not very hard to do, but who knows, it might end up being a very tricky job. Did anyone replace the water pump on 97 corolla before? How difficult was it? Two things I actually worry: 1. It might be hard to unbolt the water pump pulley, because there is little room insert a wrench. 2. Also, because of the lack of room, it would be also hard to unbolt the timing belt cover (the 2nd/middle cover). A shop gave the quote of $440 to replace the water pump, and I think I should be able to do it myself.
- it is the water pump. you will be bettor off letting the shop put it on because if you don't have the right tools DO NOT TRY TO DO YOURSELF. the water pump is right in front fan motor all that has to come off to get to the pump.
