- Q: I have 2004 Chevy Trailblazer V8 4x4 that the water pump went out on. Does anyone know how long it takes to change it and where it is located? The dealer wants $750.00 to fix it. I really don't want to get riped off.

- Q: there is a knocking noise coming from the water pump pulley..i think, the pulley also wiggles when its running. If that's what is wrong, how long do i have to fix it and is it hard and expensive to fix?
- No it isn't hard to fix, first loosen the little bolts on the water pump pulley, then take the belt off, then unbolt the water pump and take pulley off old pump, clean off old seal from block, put on new seal, you may have to use gasket maker or silicone, install new pump, and bolt pulley on to new pump, then reinstall belt. Oh I forgot you will have to drain the antifreeze before you start, and refill it after you are done! Start the car and let it warm up and look for leaks, if you see a leak you didn't get it sealed properly and will have to repeat the sealing process and antifreeze. Takes an hour or so to do!
- Q: Do it yourself steps
- Yes - always change the water pump with the timing belt. The tensioner should also be changed, and it is a good idea to change the crankshaft and cam seals while you are in there. It's a big disappointment for any of those to fail between belt changes. The water pump and tensioner can also cause the belt to fail prematurely.
- Q: ok water can't sucked up more than 10 M height in normal atmospheric pressure some well s are deep more than 10 M even some water aquifers are deep more than 200 m what are technologies used to pump water to ground level BQ- how is crude oil pumped from far deep oil wells (some offshore oil platform pump oil from more than 2000 m deep ocean and another several hundred meters deep from sea beds )
- water can't sucked up more than 10 M height in normal atmospheric pressure. This is why pressurized systems are used.
- Q: I have a 1997 ford ranger, during last week i noticed that the temperature started to go up, i noticed that the coolant recovery tank was empty so i added coolant and it fixed the problem, but a day later i noticed that the tank was empty again since it started to overheat again. This time i let the engine cool off and checked the radiator water levels and noticed it was dry with no water, so i added water and noticed that i was leaking from what it seems the water pump (im guessing its the water pump because is behind the engine fan, behind the belts, its hard to see), Does anyone have a possible explanation or suggestion of what i should do? Thank you i would really appreciate it.
- it sounds to me like the weep hole on the bottom of the water pump is leaking. This is what it is supposed to do when the water pump bearing gets some play. You should be able to look from under the engine and see the bottom of the water pump, it will probably look all clean as water has been running out of it. This is how you tell your water pump needs to be replaced. Generally speaking it is best to buy a NEW WATER PUMP, NOT A REMANUFACTURED OR REBUILT. The reason for this is a new water pump will last a lifetime of a vehicle generally speaking, so you only want to do this once because its a pain in the butt. and this is the time to inspect heater hoses, radiator hoses and chang the thermostat . This should solve any issues with the pump leaking, so get the front end of the truck safely up in the air, and make sure there is not a hose leaking or something simple, A shop would do a pressure test of the system and this would show them where your leak is. As a temporary measure you can leave the radiator cap loose so pressure does not build up this will keep the fluid in the vehicle, and not blow it all out the weep hole, just don't leave the cap so loose it blows off on the road somewhere, as long as water stays in, and the radiator is full you can use it.
- Q: I currently have a gould 1/3 horse jet water pump and a rusted pressure tank that I would like to replace. There are two bathrooms, both with showers, 2 bathroom sinks and the kitchen sink, as well as the washer. What horse power should I have for 5 faucets and what size pressure tank would be sufficient? The shower in the upstairs bathroom hardly has pressure at all with the current pump and pressure tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
- I would go with a ? hp jet pump which normally come with a 30-50 pressure switch Check out Home Depot I believe they sell the Flotec. which will run about 260.00. It will give you much better pressure upstairs and if you want to increase the pressure you can chance the pressure switch (24.00) to a 40-60. As for tanks I would look at the 42 gallon. If you have any more questions about tanks and pumps…feel free to e-mail me
- Q: the pump inlet how hard is this to replace i know the timing chain cover has to be removed and is this the propable place of the leak
- If okorder has printable online manuals for most repairs but if you aren't mechanically inclined and have little experience I would advise you to take it to a mechanic and have it fixed properly. Depending on the vehicle most water pump replacement cost between 2 and 3 hundred at a garage. The timing chain cover never needs to be removed to change a water pump.
- Q: It's been slowly leaking for awhile now, but today it dumped brown water out like a bucket, when I shut it off facing up hill.
- water pumps last less than 100k miles, get a replacement pump ,it should come with a gasket set. you may need to removed the fan shroud. Remove the serpentine belt (remember how it went on!) unbolt the old pump, you'll loose a lot of fluid ,so don't let Fido drink it. Now reverse the process and don't loose any bolts or drink beer while your doing this! The brown stuff you saw, was water .be sure you refill with coolant or the seals on your new pump are gonna get thrashed. Good luck kid.
- Q: noise when i acclerate you cant hear it as much because of engine noise but when its at idle the squealing noise is somewhat loud does anyone know what it could be ? its not the water pump because i bought it new and im not overheating and the belts arent too tight either i have already checked them
- Take the fan belt off and spin the water pump by hand. If it's dead silent make sure the new water-pump outer flange is holding the pulley directly over the pulley's on the crankshaft. If they aren't in perfect alignment or you hear noise tear the pump off and take it back. The outer pulley flange or noisy impeller makes it a candidate for a new pump. Why not get your money back from the whining pump and order a Stewart or Moroso aluminum racing pump for a few bucks more.
- Q: should replace timing belt & water pump on a newly purchased used vehicle..if no records of last x changed?
- It is wise to seek advise from professional mechanics as to what process you are considering to do with this vehicle. This vehicle is 2013-1994= 19/20 years old presumably in service since 1994. The miles you report as under 160,000 miles. You inquire as if you are inexperienced in automotive affairs. Well, here is my experience speaking. Any vehicle over 100,000 miles is to be suspect of wear and tear and even abuse by prior owners and they require inspection and evaluation. Engines are to be checked for compression and leaks, electrical system, corrosion, engine mounts, exhaust, transmission, coolant system, etc. etc. etc. Only a trained mechanic can do this. Unless you have receipts, records at a dealership, etc. as evidence of service and repairs, then all parts are original. You ask as to the timing chain. I expand to include everything proposing short of an engine rebuild. Cars do a lot of work and suffer deterioration each second the motor runs and each inch the car moves over the earth. IF there an inspection plate or port that provides for a viewing of the condition of the timing belt, a mechanic will know. My car, a 2001 Audi TT has that feature. Now, imagine the purchase price of this Toyota, add the expense of the inspection and possible repairs such as the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, radiator cap and coolant replacement, possible a new radiator, suspension parts, exhaust parts, etc. in need of replacement, etc. and it is up to you to decide IF this vehicle is worth the expense for no matter how money you spend, the retail market value shall remain the same. That means around $2,500 to $2,700. This vehicle, as new, was not and is not now, a fuel efficient vehicle with an average MPG of 14 MPG on a good day. I do not know as to your driving needs but at 60 MPH and 14 MPG that mean each 14 miles $3.50, average, goes out the tail pipe for a nice $14.00 per HOUR cost on fuel. Kind of expensive. You choice and decision. Good luck.
