- Q: im attaching a motor from another filter onto my homemade filter. but i dont want to have to run a cord all the way from the pond to a powerplug. does anyone know of another way to such water into a filter without using electricity? some kind of siphon?
- 1. I had an electrician put a buried cable in the ground coming up to a weatherproof post with outlets and an on-off switch. It was not as expensive as I thought it would be. 2. You can put the water pump and filters by the house or even inside and run buried water pipes out to the pond, or just put the pump inside and have the filter by the pond which would run by water pressure or gravity. 3. A windmill or solar panel. A siphon uses potential energy stored in the water to work. Once the water has dropped through the siphon, there is no more energy to draw from and the siphon stops. A windmill or solar panel could provide the power to lift the water back up and make the process continuous, or at least while it's windy or sunny. However when pricing these two options even though they would be very cool if you have the large yard to accommodate them, they turn out to cost much more than either 1. or 2. and have much higher maintenance costs associated with them. 4. If it's a very small pond, you can get a solar powered filter/fountain that looks like a floating plastic lily pad. My son had one of these, but it only worked on the sunniest of days, and lasted one summer before wearing out. If you add a large block of filter foam over the intake it may last a little longer. Rinse it out two or three times a week.
- Q: I had a re-manufactured water pump installed and after 14 months I started smelling my radiator occasionally. Never suspected the pump since my original pump lasted 60,000 miles and was still fine when they replaced it feigning quot;it is customary to replace water pump with timing beltwhen in actuality my Hyundai Elantra just needs the pump checked every 60,000 miles. The re-manufactured water pump was diagnosed leaking for sure after 20 months. Anyway I believe the leaking pump which didn't get discovered for at least 4 to 6 months caused the early demise of my radiator. Does that make sense? Thanks,Mitzi
- It is not likely that your water pump leak caused your radiator to fail. Your system was not holding pressure due to the leaking pump so the radiator probably did not fail from the most common problem of too much pressure.
- Q: replaced one themostat, disconected lower unit twice look at the water pump everything looks fine but when lower unit was reconnected water pump would not work. not sure if asembled it wrong or forgot to d somthing. can someone help.
- if all is lined up properly use compressed air and blow through the visual. this will dislodge any debris that may be blocking the water passages.
- Q: I have a 2000 dodge 1500 the water pump is leaking and the belt is real squeaky. Are these related?
- yes they are related the belt squeaking means its probably slipping or coolant from the leaking pump is getting on the belt so fix the pump and go ahead and change the belt since it will be off anyway
- Q: I need a water pump gasket for my mustang water pump. What can I use if I have no gasket material?
- I wouldn't use anything except what was required for that pump installation because I wouldn't want to have to go back and do the whole job a second time if the pump leaks around the gasket area. A new gasket should come with a new pump. If not go back to a quality auto parts store and get a gasket. I'm not sure I'd trust the squeeze on gasket silicone in place of a gasket and I'd get Permatex gasket sealer to use with the new gasket on all surfaces before I reinstalled the pump. It's worth taking your time to do it right. Make sure there's no antifreeze coolant oozing onto the metal sealing surfaces, because the gasket won't seal unless the surfaces are clean and dry (been there, done that).
- Q: my pump went out and i can't afford to have it fixed at a shop.
- then buy a new one and get your self some tools and a repair manual at autoparts store not much to it once you see what it looks like you start removing parts that are in way til you can take it off clean the old gasket off well and but some blue selicone put on new gasket and put on new pump tighten it put back on all the parts you remove fill radiator start check for leaks should be able to do it on the weekend about three to four hours or lless... any of these will help all about the same as the other but it will give you a better ideal of how to do it and your sure to learn more about your car so doing it would be best not only you learn but you save money too... not hard to replace most parts hard part is knowing what is wrong to replace it so you got the hard part done knowing what is wrong
- Q: Hi, I need a 12/24v dc submersible water pump that can pump up to 15m but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any help would be more than appreciated!
- It's going to be hard to get any DC pump tht can pump 15m (45+ feet). Get and inverter and get a 115v/220v AC pump to do the job. Those are much more plentiful. I know it's more to buy and install, but it is what it is.
- Q: Hey I need to pump water from a river and use be able to use it through a hose and also make the hose have pressure. I was thinking pump the water into a barrel and into a hose or something from there? Anyone know anything about if this would work? What would I need? thanks
- buy a submersible water pump. they are the best and longest runing with high pressure. also they are portable and u can take out any time. they are applicable in sea , rivers, very deep pumping etc. but remember to wrap it with a light and silky cloth to prevent the sand going in to it before use in sea and rivers. u dont need a barrel or tank. As they re not heating, they can work continuously even for a years.u can operate from a distance, much pressure than any centrigugal pump. hope it heps. good luck.........
- Q: As a fact; I must remove the timing belt in order to remove both camshaft sprockets, then the metal timing belt cover which cover partially the water pump.My main question: Do I have to lift the engine and remove the two water pump studs- Which normally holding the right engine mounting. And where I can rent ,or buy a camshaft locking tool with low price
- Yes, I have done at least 100 of these water pumps. You are correct, remove the timing belt, cam gears and rear cover is the easiest route. I have done them without removing the rear metal shield all the way, and only removing the front cam gear as well. You can remove the front cam gear, and all 6 bolts to the rear shield and shift the cover enough to get the pump out from behind the cover. You shouldn't need to remove the water pump studs, but if you do get a set of stud removers. I bought a set from snap on for around $50 or so years ago. Sears also sells a set. You don't need a cam locking tool. You can make one out of a bar with two bolts through it to stop cam from rotating while you loosen the 17mm nut on the cam gear. I usually just use an impact gun on the bolt, and no tool is needed to hold it. Remember, the 1MZ-FE engine is an interference engine, and the timing belt must be aligned perfectly or the pistons WILL hit valves and engine will self destruct. If you are near ILlinois I can help with repairs if needed.
- Q: i know a little bout cars always fixed my own since day one but this is the first car i have ever had/workd on with a internal water but thats driven off timeing chain my cars running hot and its holding prusser so i know its not radator or hoses but i need to know a way to check and make sure its the water pump befor i go tearing the engine apart
- When the car is running feel the hoses to see if the bottom hose is warm or not. If it is a lot cooler than the top one the water pump may not be working. Also turn on the heater to see if there is heat in the car. If there is heat inside the car the water pump is working. If the car is running hot while driving around town but runs cooler while driving on the highway the cooling fan may not be working properly. That car has a two stage cooling fan that is known for going bad. The low speed setting is the speed that is normally used and the high speed setting is used when the air conditioning is on. With that in mind you can try turning on the air conditioning to see if the motor cools down when it is hot. You will also want to see if the fan is coming on at all before you go too far and check the fuses and relays before you assume the fan motor is bad because they are around $100.00. Also I should note that I assumed that you have already checked the fluid level and thermostat. If not you need to check that first. Hope i have been helpful.
