Q:I just move to this house, it's been empty for a while. The water pump keep screeching everytime I turn it on. What can I do to get rid this noise?
You must have a surface mounted well pump also called a jet pump or you wouldn't hear a noise from a submirsable which is at the bottom of the well. Check where the motor hooks onto the pump itself to see if there are any small oil fittings. I doubt that there are, but it can't hurt to look. If you find any use 3M or similar oil to lubricate the bearings. If the house has been vacant for awhile those bearings might be rusty from sitting, and may stop swealing on their own as you use the pump and the shaft/bearings may grind the surface rust off and stop the noise. If they don't you will have to call a service company to evaluate the problem. Here is part of jet pump potential maintainence issues: Perform necessary pump maintenance: some water pumps require inspection and replacement of internal parts such as bearings or impellers as often as after just four or five years of use. While it may be possible to ignore this maintenance for a while, the effect may be to so wear the pump or pump motor parts that complete pump or pump motor replacement are necessary.
Q:About 2 months ago I started hearing a noise coming from my bathroom that sounded like loud humming every 3 or 4 seconds after I would turn on the water or flush the toilet. I noticed that when this noise happened the water pressure would increase and then it would go back to normal. Then the noise started to get louder. Last night while my husband was taking a shower the water lost pressure and then completely turned off. Now I have no water at all whatsoever except for maybe a few drops when I turn the faucet on. I have a private well and when I bought the house I was told that the well is underneath one of my bedrooms because the house was built on to and they built over the well. I know I can get to the pump from the crawl space. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know what it might be or maybe even how much it could cost to fix?
I am currently experiencing something similar. Our pump started making a loud noise like you mention. I had a plumber come out who works will well pumps and he told me it was a bad bearing in the pump (we has a deep well jet pump, the pump is on the surface). He also told me it could stop working in a day or a week or a month, no way to tell. So we bought a used and fixed up pump, hired a plumber to put it in this past Monday. Everything was working fine, until this morning (Thursday) I wake up to find that we have no water, not even a trickle. Trying to get a plumber back out here today. From what I can surmise from phone calls, it looks like it MAY be the pressure switch. In any event, it is most likely something electrical. If it was the submersed part of the pump, the pump would be turning on as if to work, and you'd have no water, or the pump would run all the time with little or no water. When we bought the fixed up pump it was $200 (they are $500 brand new). The plumber charged us $200 to put it in.
Q:I just bought a 1997 Honda Civic, done about 85k. There is no record of the timing belt having ever been changed so I want to get this done as a priority. My usual mechanic can't do it for a month due to other commitments so I have been ringing round for quotes, and generally these have all been to change the belt quot;plus the kit- which makes sense, change the lot while you are in there.Surprisingly, the cheapest quote I have had was from my local Honda dealer, however, they have said this is for the belt only as they don't change the tensioner/water pump on this model. Are they full of it? I'm not sure whether to take this as expertise from the car's manufacturer or total BS from some chancer trying to make money from us having to come back when other things go wrong!
We have owned Honda's for years, including three 90's Civics. We have had the timing belts changed by the dealer also - also the cheapest price - and they have always recommended changing the tensioner and the water pump while in there. The timing belt is such a critical piece of equipment that is should be changed on schedule. The new belts go much longer than the old belts. But it's only a hundred more at most to have the water pump replaced at the same time so make them do it. If you water pump goes out in another 20000 miles, the labor charge to get to it will be 400 or 500 bucks. Most dealerships will do the water pump for parts cost markup if they are also doing your timing belt. You can also negotiate your price with a dealership. Try it. If they won't budge, find a new dealer.
Q:My water pump is starting to leak. The shops are quoting $250- $300 to replace but I can buy a water pump at the auto parts store and install myself for less than $100 but I don't know what all is involved with this repair or if I should try (my only experience with car repair up to now is recently replacing the alternator). If anyone has done this please let me know what you think. thanks
if you have the right tools it not to hard make sure the old gasket is clean off the engine before installing the new pump use a light coat of gasket sealer with it
Q:The pump works and water goes to the house from the reserve tanks but there can be long delays before it cuts in after mains pressure is lost. After it stops the pressure gauge falls back slowly to zero. Pressure vessel is a sphere has a valve on top. Any suggestions ?
Sorry I don't know the Espa make but the theory is the same...if the pressure falls once the pump stops, that sounds like a leak in the lines somewhere (most probably the foot valve needs repacement.the fact that the pressure falls to 0 lbs would mean either that the pressure switch is not set properly or it also needs replacement.normal settings for household systems are either cut in at 20lb cut out at 40lbs or cut in at 30lbs and cut out at 50lbs.Check your pressure tank if its got a bladder it should be pressurized to 2lbs below cut in pressure this should be done with the pump off and no water pressure.IF your tank is a non bladder model empty it completly and then prime and restart the pump.
Q:What is the 10KV pump unit?
10KV should refer to the motor start voltage value, ultra high voltage start, the general pump more than 160KW of the motor, the voltage used in 6KV, you motor should be more than 300KW
Q:The water pump is bat on the car I have. I have the part but I need to know if I should have someone install it for me or could I do it myslef. I heard it the timing may be messed up after the pump is in
if you have never did it before ,yes its a pretty hard job to do,and there's more involved than just replacing the pump on it,one thing that might help you is to get a repair manual on the car ,they are very helpful and give tips on how to do it right and not have to do it over again, for someone who has never done this before though and doesn't have the right tools its a pretty hard job, good luck.
Q:Alright,I happen to be the only man in the house and the plumbing is a bit faulty. You see,the machine has been filled with water as necessary and was ignited. It sounds perfectly fine and you can feel water run through the pipes connected to it, when touched. But it's been an hour now and the taps are not producing water. Please can anyone help? Under normal circumstances, there should be enough water now but the taps are all empty despite the water running through the pipes. What can I do? Please help. I filled it with even more water and there's no result. Help please. Thank you.
If you are in a very cold climate you could have frozen pipes. If not call a plumber.
Q:I have a 1997 Honda Civic DX and i recently took it in to have its timing belt and water pump replaced. Since then, I have noticed a change in the cars performance. I have lost both gas mileage and power since i took my car in. The maintenance supposedly took the dealer twelve hours to complete which seemed a little odd to me. Do you think this is linked? I just remember getting a lot more miles to a tank of gas, and my car was about the same speed as a friend of mine's who now smokes me. Thank You.
It sounds fishy for sure. These repairs should not take so much time and if the timing belt is not synched correctly it can affect mileage. I suggest a second opinion by a pro.
Q:The single-phase water pump in the house is out of order. After opening the power supply, the motor can not start by itself. It is necessary to turn the shaft clockwise by hand. Then, what is the problem? How can I solve it? Thank you
The capacitor is broken. Change it.
