- Q: does anyone know how to remove the water pump on an 84 corvette its killing me
- The easiest way is from underneath the car . Loosen the nuts on the pulley first then remove the belt and the rest should be easy from there .
- Q: I was driving when my temp gauge shot up all the way so i pulled off the next exit and my car shut off and started smoking i noticed the water pump belt was in shreds and what seemed to be anti freeze fluid and water was everywhere. I'm curious what could have broke maybe a gasket or the waterpump it's self besides just the belt?
- The bearings within the pump, or the belt tensioner pulley bearings, or even the alternator could have gone bad. Any one of the components that draw from the serpentine belt may be the origin.Once the engine cools it may be determined which component caused the failure. If the water pump turns freely then it's not the source and can be ruled out. Same with the tensioner pulley.
- Q: I think the water pump on my 40 hp mercury outboard 2 stroke is not working, the hole witch usually pours out all the water that was used to cool the engine does not pour any water at all. Is this a problem with the water pump? If not what?
- Check the water intake is not blocked. Then the water impellor. Then lastly check the water tell tail outlet hole is not blocked/obstructed.
- Q: Every year my family spends a week on a house boat at Lake Powell where it can get extremely hot in the day time. I'd like to build a mist system using pvc pipes and mist spray heads to help cool us down.I'm not sure what kind of water pump to buy? I've looked at different kinds from submersible to non-submersible, all with different amounts of PSI and GPM. I am not familiar with water pumps and could use some community insight.I want to make sure the pump I get does not burn out because of the back pressure it will get due to the mist heads only allowing a little water to escape at a time.I imagine my mist system would have 8 - 12 heads, reaching no more then 30 feet from water source to the end.Any pointers? Thanks!
- I am assuming your water source will be the lake …. I would be looking at a submersible pump possibly a pond pump but you need to know what the “lift” is going to be …from the point where you string the mister to the pump {possibly a 15 foot lift} and a pump that will give you at least 25psi. Because you are going to have back pressure, the submersible will reduce the risk of burn out. Also you need to build a simple enclosed container this pump can sit in, with at least a 4”water inlet hole covered with mosquito netting, nylon hosiery, or something to filter the water….otherwise you will constantly be removing the mister heads to clean
- Q: Water pump quot;leakingbut not dripping anything. how important?my 04 tacoma has a quot;leaking water pumpquot;. I just see some pink fluid around the seals, nothing is dripping. toyota dealer didnt make a big deal about it, just said i should get it done soon. heck they didnt even tell me, i just saw it on the receipt.other mechanics said the same thing. quot;whenever u want to do it we'll do it.is it not an hugely important mechanism or what? how long can i go without doing it? the first symptom would be the engine getting a little hotter? its been like that for 5-6 months.
- yea the water pump circulates coolant through the entire cooling system. if you wait until it fails completely, your engine will overheat. i would get it done as soon as possible to prevent further engine damage if it does happen to fail.
- Q: think the water pump is behind the crank pulley but im not certain I've pulled apart the front end but I'm having a hard time getting the pulley off so I want to make sure the part im trying to pull off is not the wrong one.
- in time is correct....but if you are really good you don't need to pull of the balancer....although not recomened you can fold the belt behind it if you need to but the proper way is to take it off.....hay desperate times call for despirate measures!!!!....by the way you might want to replace the timing belt idler pulley as well....cause at about 190,000 the bearing will seize
- Q: How hard is putting in a water pump for my 5-series on a 1-10 scale ?and how do i put it in ? details please !? i dont have a chitlon for it . ive worked a lot on this car and i do know some things about it, but not very car savy. Thank you !!
- What is easy for you may be hard for others, so I would not give the job any hardship rating. But the approximate job entails doing these...descriptions from viewpoint of person standing infront and looking towards the engine... a) remove fan blade with fan clutch by turning big nut clockwise (reverse thread) b) remove fan belt, then remove pulley attached to water pump c) remove radiator fan shroud if you can to have more space to work in d) put basin underneath engine to catch coolant and detach radiator hose connected to water pump e) remove 6 bolts holding water pump and remove pump f) clean surface of engine block to remove left over sealant/gasket g) install new pump and other removed parts in reverse order h) add coolant, bleed (using bleeder screws in thermostat housing and upper radiator hose), then top-off coolant to proper level marked on expansion tank near windshield. i) ran engine or roadtest, then recheck coolant level after overnight stay or when engine cools down.
- Q: Trying to replace my water pump and was told labor would cost $90 for an 06 impala 3.9L I don't know if it's reasonable for the amount of work.
- A water pump. Ninety dollars sound like 1.5 hours of work at $60 to $65 an hour. The car must cool off first. The car must be emptied of coolant . The serpentine belt must be removed. There might be other items that may need to be placed out of the way on this Impala, capitalized, Mr. Swayward, as car names are proper names and must be capitalized. Apparently teachers do no cover this in class any more. There are many bolts that need to be removed. There is a gasket that needs to be removed. There is a water (coolant) pump that needs to be removed. There is a new pump that needs to be installed. There is a gasket and a cover pan to be installed. There is a serpentine belt that must be returned to service by adjusting the tension. There might items that were removed that need to be moved back. There is coolant fluid that must in added to the vehicle. Past a certain point of adding coolant the engine is run to circulate the fluid to burp the system out of air. As the coolant levels goes down, more fluid is added. Repeat as needed. Once assured of no air then the radiator cap is placed and then work can be checked for leaks and for quality of work, A few minutes of monitoring the engine and the temperature are needed. An experienced mechanic could possibly do this faster but the labor rate comes form a book or website used all over the USA as the time an average mechanic would need to complete this job. As to your question. Is it reasonable? Since you know where on the planet you happen to park this car, then you could call another car repair shop and ask as to this job. You can compare prices.
- Q: If you use a water pump to move water through a circular trench, essentially making a little river, and then place some kind of turbine or water wheel or something to generate electricity from the moving water, couldn't you use the electricity generated by the turbine to power the pump, thus requiring no outside power?
- Perpetual Water Pump
- Q: overheating.it has a new thermostat,radiator is clean.temp stays normal during idle,rises when i start to drive.ac is off when this happens.its a 4.7 dodge durango.can water pump simplyquot;go badquot;without ever leaking?
- if it,s circulating then the water pump is doing its job. does the fan kick on? maybe 1 of the hoses is closing up when your driving. usually when the bearing goes bad in the pump it takes the seal out too and starts to leak.
