Q: Recently my front brakes locked up on a motorcycle. I was told that the front brakes caliper needed to be replaced. The brakes stay closed and will not release. The fluid is correct. Is it better to replace the caliper or rebuild it? It is the kind of brakes with pads.
The caliper just needs a good clean out. Remove it from the wheel and spray with brake cleaner. The pistons are covered with crud and won't retract. And all brakes have pads or shoes.
Q: So the thing is, Motorcycles are following cars technology although they‘re around 20 years behind! Liquid cooling introduced in cars far earlier than bikes. So do fuel injection and now ABS braking. Now my real point is, will motorcycles go automatic in upcoming years? Honda have already showed some interest by introducing VFR1200F and NC700, both of them have optional automatic transmissions. As much as 99% scooters have already gone automatic (CVT to be precise). Piaggio used to had twist shifters in the 70s but now they‘re all automatic. Do you love this trend or hate it? I simply hate it, it disgusts me to my core
Automatic transmissions on motorcycle have never been popular. They've never sold well. Honda seems to have a policy these days to always have one or two models with an automatic. Remember the DN-01? Now it's the NC700, a sort of motorcycle/scooter hybrid. Motorcyclists don't like automatic transmissions. Go figure! In a big bike like the Gold Wing (and that new Gold Wing-based cruiser) it would make a lot of sense, but apparently Honda doesn't even think they'd sell enough to make up the costs. The difference between a motorcycle and a scooter is that scooters are transportation devices and motorcycles are seen more as recreation devices. Scooters are sold as simple, easy, user-friendly--if you can ride a bicycle you can just hop on one of these babies and ride it home. Motorcycles are sold as your passport to adventure and derring-do. 8^) (Of course their functions overlap somewhat.) But can you imagine a machine like a GSX-R or Ducati with a CVT? Ugh!
Q: I currently just moved out to Columbus OH about a month ago and I am very unfamiliar with the area. I have a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja ex500 and my back wheel squeaks once per every resolution of the tire. On top of that, My front and rear brakes squeal really badly. I know the pads are still good (i only put 1500 miles on them) so I think they just need re-adjusted. I can‘t work on the brakes myself because of the apartment that I am living at. Does anyone know of a good and yet cheap motorcycle shop that I can go to near the Columbus Ohio area? thanks
Rotors could be warped or have damage. Find yourself a smaller motorbike shop and get to know them well. Dealers are worthless, overcharge amp; really do the bare minimum on bike repairs
Q: Hi, i ride an SV650, for the first 2-3 minutes of riding i experience an extreme amount of braking, even when the clutch is in, to the point where i can't move the bike backwards unless i get off and push it, even when the bike is off, this happens especially when it is cold, it feels like something is seizing up somewhere. Any help?Edit: this also happens when i'm riding normally, the bike struggles, i can feel when it stops.
The calipers are sticking. Probably because somebody changed the pads and just drove the dirty, corroded pistons back into the calipers without cleaning them up.
Q: Please don‘t advise me to take the MSF or anything like that. I am planning on taking it as soon as possible (in the next 2-3 months or so), but excrutiating circumstances require me to get my class M license before I do so. I already know that if I complete the MSF, then I can waive the driving portion of my test to get my class M.What should I expect for this driving test? I have read around and noticed that most people who have taken their test take it right there at the DMV, on a small course they have in the back. However, when I was told what I needed to perform the test, I was told that I needed to bring (along with my motorcycle) a car that was insured and registered, so the instructor could follow me. Now why would they need to follow me if I were merely driving around in the back of their parking lot?Does anyone know what I should be expecting for this test? Will it be a combination of driving on the street AND driving their little test course? Thanks!

Q: okay.... soo u know how riding a dirtbike if u brake with the front one... u eat mad ****. now if ur on a motorcycle... in traffic which would u recommend braking with the front or the rear... this is a huge fear of mine... to ride in traffic and having to brake fast.... the eating **** with a 600 pound bike... any recommondatons
well the front brake is at least 70 percent of your stopping power. Funny thing is I ride an olschool chopper with NO front brake and have no problem stopping. However if you only use the rear brake DO NOT lock it up because the rear of the bike will slide out to the right! Im working on a dual disk rear brake and that will solve this problem and make me a bunch of money.
Q: Is a motorcycle parked in a parking garage on a college campus considered safe? I would also equip a disk brake lock (in addition to the standard fork lock). How safe are motorcycles in parking garages?.specifically at night
First Of All It's About The Garage Are Their Cameras If Yes Then Eventually You Will Get The Thief If It Has Been Stolen Number Two Does Your Bike Have A Number Plate Mostly Yes But I'm Talking About Those Banshee's Or 4Wheels Because You Need To Identify Your Bike. Number 3 Best Idea Be Really Nice And Extra Nice To THe Security And Then Ask Him TO Take Care Of Your Bike Give Him Something Like 20 Dollars In The End Of The Month Remember Paying A 10 Or 20 Is Better Then Loosing Your Bike Note: Even If You Do Have An Extra Lock Some Criminals Don't Want Your Stuff They Just Want To Take It Away ( Sick Minded ) Criminals Intended To. I Hope This Was Helpful Good Luck Drive Safe
Q: on a motorcycle, thanks!
Another purpose is to reduce unsprung weight of the suspension which improves handling. And yes cooling improves braking. When brakes get very hot they fade.So the cooler you keep things the better(and longer) the brakes will function.
Q: im going to get a motorcycle in like 6-7 months but i want to learn all about them first, it will be a yamaha r6about the shifting i know that like down is first half up is N and up is 2nd and so on...what abiout braking though? clutch then brake but do i downshift at all while doing this or just downshift when stopped or what?also when do you downshift?
Firstly... If you have very little idea on how to ride a bike.. You shouldn't even be riding a 600cc Motorcycle.. Its one sure way to crash it and waste all that money you spent to buy it... Let alone cause injury to yourself Motorcycles for beginners should be 250cc or less! But to answer your question.. Whilst braking yes you may downshift while slowing down.. that way you can be in the correct gear when your ready to go again.. You may also downshift whilst stopped its no problem.. But Id say shifting while moving is better.. That way your the gears inside your gearbox are rotating as this makes it easier for the gears to 'engage' With regard to the clutch.. Depends how much you need to slow down... If you only need to slow down a little bit then no need to pull in the clutch... If you need to slow down a great deal and you can feel the engine 'struggling' then its time to definitely pull the clutch in and drop it down a gear if available.. Or if you need to stop for traffic or a red light.. you may as well pull it in because your going to stop anyway.. If you drive a manual car... riding a motorcycle is not much different... You will be able to understand the concept of braking, throttle clutch and gears much eaiser..
