Q: My Toyota 2006 Sienna has 80K miles on it and I asked the dealer to inspect the vehicle. He suggested that i replace Timing Belt, Water Pump, Drive Belt and Trans Pan Gasket. The cost of the repair comes to $1300 ($460 for Timing Belt, $350 for Water Pump, $140 for Drive Belt $370 for Pan Gasket).I'm caught by surprise with the price quoted and things to be replaced. Is the price quoted reasonable? Are these replacement common for Sienna vehicle with 80K miles? I don't know what could possibly go wrong if these are not changed for couple of months. I have an extended warranty on the vehicle for 100K miles will any of the above get covered under warranty?Any suggestions or advice is highly appreciated/
not sure about the timing belt but water pump seems expensive, so does the drive belt but the transmission pan gasket is a rip off. it should not be $350, those are not that hard to replace. dont go to a dealer for all this, try other mechanics dealer is out to get your money but they will do a good job. other mechanics will do it cheaper but a poor job. if your car has 80K you can possibly go up to 100K, I mean timing belt does need to be checked around there, is your water pump leaking? if not then your wasting money, pan gasket is there a pink oil leak, if so then probably its time for a new pan gasket...

Q: ive been doing repair work on an old 86 jeep cherokee and when i let it idle there is a water leak, me and my dad came to the conclusion there was something wrong with the water pump. i cant find the manual and i dont even know what im looking for, so where would i find the water pump and how would i go about replacing it?
hello ok... you have some issues to ascertain... a million, be certain you placed the theromstat interior the final way. 2, examine each and all of the hoses... you have got one thats kinked or collapsed. ( normally the single close to the backside of the radiator. 3, replace the radiator cap. the actual one on the radiator. it must be venting each and all of the time subsequently no longer permitting the water rigidity to upward push while the engine is working. confident the gadget is presureised via the rigidity of the water pump..... 4, you have got a sludge blockage interior the radiator its self. Take the hose off the backside, permit each and all of the fluid run out. placed hose in perfect of radiator and only flush.... 5, the reason the heater isnt working is becasue the water isnt circulating... subsequently me thinking theres a blockage incredibly once you stated no water comes out of the bleed screw. What shade is the coolant in theradiator... is it clean, is it the fairway or blue shade of coolant further. Or is it a rusty shade. additionally ... look on the oil cap.. look interior it.. is there a whitish foam. additionally examine your dipstick. Is the oil clean , or is it milky looking. If its milky then you definately've got a blown cylinder head gasket . The coolant would be going into the cylinders. and not cooling the engine. I desire you success with this and that i'm hoping its somything so undemanding as a blocked radiator.
Q: The truck has 89k on it and i'm having the timing belt done this week; would it be wise to get the pump changed since it's in the same area, even though it's not leaking; for preventitive maintenance purposes, or is there life left in the pump? I don't want to take it back soon after if the pump does go out
as a mechanic, I always OFFER the customer the option. The water pump can last a long time however, as you've probably been told, it is driven off the timing belt. Therefore, if, say six months from now the pump developes a leak, its like doing the whole job over. Now, the tech won't know for sure there isn't a small weepage at the pump seal until the parts are exposed. There is a vent hole or weep hole as some call it and it will get crusty stuff on it or coolant traces from it if the seal is beginning to leak. I have personally seen a few that have gone bad by the 90K service. You'd have to be awfully optimistic to think it's gonna last another 90K. Lastly though, the part going on should be a new pump, not a rebuilt. Quality is important. The only other item you have to look forward to failing, if it hasnt already is the starter contacts. A good shop familiar with this issue will replace the two contacts in the starter instead of gouging you for a reman unit. Hope that helps. Make sure they use the correct coolant formula for your vehicle. PS: those are awsome engines. a HUGE improvement over the 3.0 litre motor.
Q: There is no water at all! What can we do to troubleshoot this before calling a Plumber? This is the first time this has happened and we never had a well before. Please help (serious answers only)
It's not your water heater. It's not the thermostat. Check that the circuit breaker or fuse to the well is not off or tripped. (If it is a circuit breaker, turn it all the way off firmly and then back on.) If it was tripped, it probably tripped for a reason and you'll eventually have to find the reason. If the circuit breaker is not tripped and/or fuses aren't blown, there may be a problem with the pressure switch which is the device that turns the pump on and off in response to water pressure. Not something amateurs should fool around with.
Q: for the water pump in MY car that he has been using for his job!! He has threatned that the water pump cost $400 - 500 dollars but I didn't hear abut that when it was done!!! We are breaking up and it is My car but he says that he is taking te water pump out! Can he do that??? We also ave a daughte but I will ask about that later!! TRUST ME!!! I need to know about Custody Battles in Anoka or Hennipin County, Monnesota, 55433!!!! Please Help!!!!!!!!
I don't know so much about legal issues, but 4-500 dollars for a water pump sounds about right. The pump costs about 80 but you have to take out the engine to get it. Usually when they replace the water pump they'll replace the timing belt, too, which again adds to the cost. If he takes the pump out, it means the engine will be out, too. Engines are really heavy, so I doubt that he could do it on his own. If he has a mechanic do it, the car will be stuck at the mechanic's until you get a replacement part, and he still has to pay $300 in labor just to get the thing out of there. It is pretty much, then, an idle threat. He could however, do quite a lot of damage to your car with a hammer. However, that would be vandalism and he would go to jail for it. If he has already paid for the repair, he can't really sue you. He can, but the judge should look at it as a gift, which he can't get back.
Q: I have an 1982 El Camino 305 small block and am having troubles with determining if it is the gasket or the pump. I can't quite locate a leak, but it seems to centralize from the water pump and drip down the hose to the radiator. After my engine gets hot, which mind you my temp light has never turned on, and I shut of my car steam rolls out from behind my pump. I think it is the pump and please be it so. (Easier and cheaper fix. Replacement with a inexpensive part XP.)
that would be a failing water pump, a head gasket would leak into the oil or exhaust most of the time.
Q: Hi -- could someone please give me information on how much I should expect to pay for a water pump and to cleanse my coolant system (or something like that) or if it's something I really need to do. Or if I can get the water pump without the coolant system...My car is running fine, just started making kind of a rough running sound a few weeks ago when it's idling. ANY advice is greatly appreciated!

Q: Well I know the water pump is leaking and its leaking fast. So I put water in the coolant reservoir and when I drive it acts fine but then when I stop and idle the coolant tank starts too over flow and spits the water out everywhere. Car still being at reg temperature the coolant reservoir is steaming/smoking? I can't tell which. But there doesn't seem to be water in the oil??? What's going on? If the water pump is replaced will this stop?
Start where the obvious problem lies. Replace water pump AND thermostat AND radiator cap.
