- Q: How does a throttle actuator/control for a generator know to increase decrease throttle based on electrical current demand?I’m thinking of building a DC generator using a diesel engine and a PMAC motor but am confused as to how I will vary the engine speed automatically to meet the varying current demand. - eir if you sense the current load by a line resistance of perhaps 0.1 ohm, you can increase or decrease the RPM of the generator as the current rises and falls

- Depends on the use of the generator. Power and current are related. Divide the rated power of the generator( I assume is diesel driven) by the voltage of the area where you operate (Europe is 240) so 1000000 VA: 2404,166 ampere in the most favourable conditions (Power factor 1) usually the current value is multiplied by .7(Minimum Power Factor acceptable) which will give you a maximum continuous current of circa 3500 ampere. If you are using the generator for emergency you require an automatic starting system and a priority circuit together the standard protection panel which include: 1 Over and Under voltage protection 2 Over and Under frequency protection 3 Phase sequence 4 Overload. Most of these panels have other functions as well. If you require more information than what I have written, I suggest you look at some of the leaflets provided by manufactures

- Q: Hi.My diesel electric generator has a sticker that says Change oil every 100hrs. Use 10w-30 grade CC. But I can't find this oil anywhere. The closest I have found are 10w-30 Mobil1 synthetic oil (API SM/CF) and 15w-40 Pennzoil gold (with diesel protection, API CJ, CI, CF etc. /SM). Which one should I use?Thanks!
- I beleive that CC is obsolete. Search diesel engine oil and find the one that matches your engine type.

- There are several reasons for this: 1) If it is an office computer and you are an administrator of some program, you need to keep it on so that other people can access it. In this case your computer is a server and servers are never switched off. 2) If it is in a LAN (usually but not strictly) in an office, there are some programs that run updates/scans, like antivirus virus etc. 3) If people are working on something big, they tend to lock the machines and resume work later on. Usually, it is best to restart the computer regularly. Even if you are keeping it on continuously, come later and before starting the work, restart it. Efficiency of a computer decreases if it is left on without proper air conditioning.

- A mine can take a *LOT* of power. If it were just the people, and they were not used to electrity, maybe a MegaWatt would be enough, for a while at least. Since you would be burning diesel to make the electricity, price would be high. You might want to get firm contracts that somebody would buy all you generate.

- Rango is correct.Straight electric would be the way to go.All that diesel does is power a big generator anyways.I don't see it happening in the near future though.The trucks on the highway are wasting much more fuel than the railroads are.One gallon of fuel will move a ton of freight on the rails about 400 miles.A truck gets it about 59 miles. Bob just as a side note we don't have short time rating anymore on locomotives like the SD 70 and the C44ac and theC45ac.They will grind along all day at low speed.
