Q:My water pump is sitting very close if not rubbing against the case. There were shavings and a groove. Would this cause it to knock? Also would this blow up the lower end? One more, Should it be in the center or offset twards the top?
Perhaps one of the shaft's retainers, the bearing, or gear is worn, allowing the water pump shaft to move in and out of the case - causing the impeller to rub on the outer cover. Try to pull the water pump out and push it in - there shouldn't be any play. If there is, figure out why. If the impeller can move in and out, that would cause it to knock. If there were any metal shavings in the coolant, they would scrape the outer cover. The water pump cover isn't an even shape, so I don't know what you mean by should it be in the center The bottom end and the cooling system are 2 separate entities. A problem with one will not affect the other.
Q:Iv got a 2002 Chrysler Sebring with a 2.7 in it and recently it started leaking coolant, its been determined that i need a new water pump. Iv gotten quotes from various places and various prices but there all telling me i need to replace different things. One guy said i need a timing kit, the other guy said i dont need a timing kit but need valave covers and a couple other things, another said i dont need anything but the pump itself. Im lost and the leaks getting worse and i need to make a decision but dont know what to do. Some insight from you helpful people would be great!
Usually water pumps just go, and you can't drive the car until it is replaced. They leak horribly before too long. Just keep putting water in it, but it will leak out as fast as you put it in there. A mechanic removes the water pump and puts a new one on. Nothing else has to be replaced. Go to the mechanic who said only the pump needs to be replaced. He sounds correct - although I am sure a 2002 car may need a couple of other things done to it.
Q:If there were no water at the discharge of a pump and then you had just fed water through and measured the pressure of the gauge...would that be a different pressure if the whole system (both inlet and outlet) were continuously filled with water?
1.If there is no water at the discharge of the pump then there can be no pressure. 2. If there is water at the discharge of the pump, but the pump is not running, then there will be a pressure in the system. 3. If the pump is running, the pressure in the system will be higher than at 2.) above becuse it takes additional pressure to move the water through the piping. The flowing water requires additional pressure to get thru the piping system.
Q:I know that the water pump is belt driven, so it would be easy to connect it to my bicycle. What I am wondering is if I can pedal fast enough to make it work. Does anyone know how fast I would need to pedal to operate the pump?
Pretty fast. Engines operate at 600-6000 rpm and the pump pulley is a little smaller than the drive pulley, so it is spinning even faster. That said, 600 rpm is plenty fast enough. You can attain that easily by applying pulley to rear tire tread, raising tire off ground and pedaling. To apply bike chain to pulley would give a disappointing water flow.
Q:water pump contents
That is your first problem. Once that works, turn it with a 1/2 in wrench and clamp the hose.
Q:The water burst how to repair?
This is used by welding and making AB calls
Q:i need to change my water pump on my vw 1990 gti. the more details and/or pictures the better or links i can go to to show me
Buy a repair manual. Or better yet buy a lifetime replacment one at Autozone and they will print out a step by step (with pictures torque specs) instructions for you. :)
Q:I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu with 123xxx miles on it. I notice coolant being leaked on the floor heavily and my car gets hot driving. It leaks when the car is on and stops when it is off. Could it be a water pump? What r the signs of a bad water pump?
Doubt it is the water pump, it is more likely the lower intake manifold gaskets are leaking. This is a common issue on the 3.1L Malibu. NOTE: DON'T drive it like this, you may do serious damage to the engine. Better take it in for a Cooling system pressure test.
Q:i want to change the water pump on my on a 70 hp (70C) nissan outboard motor and i never pulled a lower unit, not sure what to expect thanks for any help
CW pushes water up into the motor housing.
Q:All the water to my house comes from the river close by - via a 1500kw surface pump, into a large pressurised tank. If there is ever any kind of blockage in the pipe - or if it freezes ...this causes the pump to run - 'dry' - which eventually burns out the motor. I have lost 2 pumps so far because of running dry - and they are very expensive.I would like to fit some kind of automatic cut-out - that will ALWAYS stop the pump running after 15 minutes or perhaps less - as that is ALL the time it needs - if the water is flowing freely - to fill the pressurised tank. I feel sure such a thing must exist - but I do not know what it is called or where to buy one. Does anyone know of a 'switch' of this kind? And where to look for one? What could I put into google to do a search - for suppliers and prices, please?
the best thing is buy a submersable pump it is cheap and never burn
