- Q: Hey all--I just paid $900 at the Volkswagen dealership to get my timing belt, water pump, rollers, and air pump replaced. Is that a good deal? Also, how does the timing belt replacement relate to performance? I noticed my car was a little faster than before (maybe it's because I was driving another car for 2 days).
- It is a VW, so 900 sounds about right. I would've done it myself though, but that's just me. The belt/pump replacement will not change your performance.
- Q: I'm trying to convince my dad to get a 1984 Porsche 944 for $900. However, the car need a new water pump and I was wondering how much it would be to get the part installed at a shop. What would be a good estimate as I'm planning on going to more than one place. So included with the price of the part and installation is this a good deal? And is the car reliable?

- Q: I live in a condo building -- 3 floors, 7 units. In our storage units (right below my unit) is a water pump that was hooked up with the intent of helping the water flow to the 3rd floor. Everytime the pump goes off, it rattles, then makes a loud noise when it kicks off. The developers created a drywall box that houses the pump, which is surrounded by isolation, but it doesn't seem like it helps the noise. The pump also rattles the pipes that connect directly to the pump.My question is -- is this rattling normal for a standard water pump? If so, is there anything I can do to help cut down on the noise? If this is rattling is not normal of the standard water pump, what would it cost to replace it with something decent?
- I've been around booster pumps that were extremely quiet -without any soundproofing at all.And the pipes don't rattle. You should find a plumber who knows what the hell he's doing and get that crap replaced.

- Q: I am selling a 96 eclipse that needs a new water pump. I am willing to sell it for an offer as is, but I would like to fix it and sell it for more, so it is as if I am getting paid for the labor.My question is, is it possible at all to change out a water pump on a 96 eclipse without pulling the engine out? Like through the passenger wheel well access panel or anything?
- I've done hundreds of them with the engine in place. If it's a Chrysler 420A powered lump, you'll need a puller for the bottom crank pulley. On second thought, don't fix it, sell it short and when the NEW owner F's it up, it isn't your fault. You don't need that pain.
- Q: I would like to have a water pump/valve that I can tie into my house water and will run on a timer. Kind of like a sprinkler system but not so expensive an on a much smaller scale. Basically what I am trying to do is set up an auto-watering (from the tap) system for my animals when I am away for a day or two. I know this is more in the lines of a pet category but than again - not really.
- Your okorder /... You can get a hose connection adapter for your tap. You could make one yourself with a toilet float valve. Setting up a pump on a timer may cause you a flood or water damage. It's not a good idea to leave such a system unattended for a few days. You might be better off my leaving several water bowls out if it's only a few days. Good luck!
- Q: it just go? I was told that my water pump had leaked at least for awhile before it went and if it had been in the garage someone competent should have noticed it. Then other people have told me No it just goes.whats accurate?
- Check the water-pump weep hole under the input shaft casting. You have to look underneath the pump while the car is on jack-stands or plastic ramps. The weep-hole will show the color of the coolant if it's leaking. It will leak at a higher rate with the engine is running when the cooling system is under pressure than when the car is sitting and the engine is cold. Any trusted private mechanic or new car dealer can see a water-pump leak if you can't lift the car safely to crawl underneath.
- Q: what is the actual capacity of 15 stage 1 H.P. Borewell submersible pump. I mean can it draw water if it at 300 ft depth. Is 15 stage 1 H.P pump capable to draw water
- Whats it rated at? I highly doubt it would ever be able to draw water from 300 ft depth. Look up what its rated for.
- Q: i have recently taken of my whole water pump cover to drain the fluid, not knowing that there was a drain screw to do it.So when i took it off, i broke the seal, and now the coolant constantly drips 24/7 until i have none left, nearly blew my head gasket the other day.I was going to get a new part, but then a friend told me about locktite to seal it shut so that it does not leak????Is this the super glue stuff orrrrr? :(Please help me and links would be good so i know what to getThanks you very much!
- DPO, You will need the water pump gasket, water pump gasket sealant and the manual. DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE. Remove the cover [after draining the coolant this time] and clean everything up nice and dry. Resist the urge to scrape and gouge the parts with a screw driver to remove the old gasket material. you can use a scotchbrite pad to clean it all up. [no, steel wool cannot be used] Use a THIN film of sealant on each side of the gasket [NO, more is not better] and bolt it back together gently or you risk cracking the pump cover. Don't forget to refill with coolant and recheck after it has warmed up and cooled again.Get the manual before you do any more damage. You didn't give the year or exact model 85 so the link below is just for example.
- Q: Well I know the water pump is leaking and its leaking fast. So I put water in the coolant reservoir and when I drive it acts fine but then when I stop and idle the coolant tank starts too over flow and spits the water out everywhere. Car still being at reg temperature the coolant reservoir is steaming/smoking? I can't tell which. But there doesn't seem to be water in the oil??? What's going on? If the water pump is replaced will this stop?
- Hi... There could be two problems here. First ,the thermostat is stuck open, second, a blown head gasket. Compression leaks out to the cooling system,increasing pressure ... So ,no it won't correct the situation.
