- Q: I own a honda cbf 125, my front disc brakes weren‘t sharp and it would stop a mile away if i depress the lever,. so i read somewhere online you can use sandpaper to very gently rub the disc plate to make it sharp again.i did that and still no results, so i changed the pads, and the brakes were spot on sharp! but the problem is EXTREME SQUEAKINGlike you have to let go off the handlebars and close ur ears kinda loud! i‘ve driven over 200+km on the new pads and its still not improving. my guess is i have to change the disc plate? any suggestions greatly appreciated! thanks.
- I've got to ask! you do have the brake compound in contact with the disc and not the metal backing plate!, easy to get wrong , and an honest mistake!! as others said ( my point goes to them) copper grease! this is made specifically for brakes and is what should be used, no water disperal sprays or liquid oils should be used on ANY brake component Brakes should only be lubricated with either proprietry brake grease or brake fluid nothing else. And even then olny brake grease externally and no where near any braking surface. Brakes work on friction, lubricants reduce friction :-)
- Q: they say that the front brake is like 70% and the back is 30 (or maybe 60/40) but anyways, which one would you normally use to slow down? i would guess the back one would be slowing down and the front would be for full stops? i dont own a bike yet, but of course, im curious and doing research.oh yea, if you slam on the back brake (the one near the footrest) your wheel wouldnt stop right? just slow down?
- Braking power is roughly proportional to how much weight is on each tire. The harder you brake, the more stopping power is available at the front, and the less at the rear. This is because of the weight transfer which occurs as you brake. Front braking must be done progressively: moderate braking loads the front tire, which allows more braking, which further loads the front tire, which allows more...etc. So very gentle braking will be roughly 50-50. The most extreme example of braking would be racers who lift the rear tire off the ground. In such a case, braking would be 100% front, 0% rear. The harder one brakes, the less traction there is at the rear. Should the rear skid during a panic stop, it is best to hold the rear brake on. To release it may provoke a high-side. Should the front skid, it is vital to release that brake immediately, or a crash is inevitable. I hope that you are not trying to learn how to ride via the Internet. Take an approved course.
- Q: Why did not the motorcycle brake?
- It is impossible not to brake
- Q: Why do motorcycles usually have two brake rotors at the front wheel, whereas cars do fine with one per wheel?
- There have been some good points made, although when drilled discs first came out, it was to dissipate water. The when the discs were wet on early disc systems, it's a darn good thing they had a drum brake in back because the front was practically useless. My Honda 750 super sport had a single front and back disc and in the rain, you kept a VERY LONG distance from the car ahead of you. Apply the brakes and at first nothing happened until finally the front brake especially would go to moaning, howling and groaning and FINALLY start slowing down.just a bit though. When it would finally stop, it came as an eyeball shaking shudder. The Kaw I traded that thing off for had drilled discs with metallic pads (also much better when wet) and the brakes worked great, wet or dry. In addition, bike discs have a lot of stainless steel in them, which is really a pretty poor friction material and being wet makes it that much worse. About the only way to make them any slicker would be to chrome the disc. Car discs are cast iron which is an excellent friction material except that it rusts. Old Moto Guzzis had Brembo cast iron discs.great brakes but just setting overnight had them rusted and sometimes that rusty water would drip on the right side of the front wheel, discoloring the chrome. They gave up on iron sometime in the late 70's or early 80's I think. A final reason for dual discs up front is that some bikes have an intergrated braking system. The foot pedal activates the rear disc as well as partially applying one of the front discs. The lever operates the remaining disc only. I think the older Gold Wings used this as well as the Suzuki Cavalcades and a few others. It was actually a way to overcome the common problem of too much rear brake and not enough front brake.
- Q: I have an 81 kawasaki 750. However the bike has pretty much been all custom worked so it is hard to decipher what is what. Under the seat looks literally like a birds nest of wires. And the turn signals up front r just hanging there with a rubber band holding the wire. The brake light turns on with the headlight but does not light up when brake is applied. If anyone could give me some info on the basics of what needs to go where i should be able to figure it out. Thank u for the info!
- Since it is possibly a butchered 30 year old loom it is probably worth your while creating your own wiring loom from scratch rather than try to make old brittle wires of unknown provenance work. Work out what components you need and wire them. Many looms will include wiring which will fit components not necessarily be fitted to your model. If you work slowly and logically (with plenty of slack in the wires) you should be able to create your own. Replace or clean components as you go.
- Q: A motorcycle is travelling in a straight line at 150km/hour, and brakes to bring it to rest in 4.5 seconds. The road wheels have an effective radius of 340mm. Determine the number of revolutions made by the wheels in the total braking time. [Please provide solution and Answer, much appreciated]
- They remove oxygen or block access to oxygen. Fire needs oxygen.
- Q: hi i am 17, have a motorcycle, and motorcycle temps. with temps you have restrictions of no night riding, no freewaysext. if i were to brake that law and did night riding or freeway riding and got pulled over for w/e reason( lets just say a tern signal or out and not given a ticket for that) will i loose my licence for driving a car? or will i just get a ticket for that? around where i live when u are under age of 18 and u get a ticket or in an accident, you loose you licence for some time. idk if any 1 will know. just a question. and if this will help i live in Ohio
- Riding outside of permit limitations is exactly the same as riding with no license. The ticket will say exactly that - no license. The fine will reflect the charge. Whatever additional penalties they hang on junior drivers will surely be yours.
- Q: Chinese Motorcycle?
- Yes, but only if it's available for the year, make and model. Otherwise, serious and expensive modifications would be required.
- Q: so lets say im on second gear then i have to suddenly stop. how do i get on second gear back again after i had stopped.?? i know i have to put it on first gear again in order to take off my question is how do i do that. Can i put the bike on first gear while holding on to the clutch and break at the same time.??
- Just clutch and brake. Once you are stopped down shift back into first. If you are braking quickly you don't need to downshift while braking.
- Q: The battery is fine, the brake light works, the horn operates, but no front or back lights. The motorcycle does not have a start button as it is a kickstart and the lights are manually operated. I took the lights apart and they don‘t appear blown (and surely the back light can‘t be blown as it still lights as a brake light). What is wrong? Could a blown front light bulb prevent operation of the back light due to it being on the same circuit? Just wondering whether it is worth replacing the front bulbs before taking the damn thing apart. Please note: the motorbike does not have a Park function or anything like that. It was built in 1982.
- Seeing as you did not include the make of the motorcycle, I will assume it still has a fuse box . Usually under the seat, and at that age , you could have corrosion. Turn on your key , and with a test lamp check your fuses
