- Q: I just bought an 05 Durango at a Gov. auction. When driving i noticed some resistance from the brakes themselves, not the pedal. The brakes actually seem to work fine, but there is very noticeable resistance, especically at lower speeds, and i dont roll forward when i idle, not to mention squeaking at all speeds. I took it to a dealer they jacked it up, put it in neutral, and one wheel would not spin at all by hand, and the other three were stiff. So i assume thats where i am getting my resistance, but the weird thing is my calipers are not locked up, my brakes arent sticking, i cant figure out where this resistance is coming from. They said it was rusty under there and they wanted to replace the whole brake system, but i really feel its something else.
- There are float pins. They allow the front and back pads to center themselves when squeezing the rotor while braking. If they are gummed up, or out of grease they can not float and keep that tension on the wheel. Another issue is where a soft spot occurred in the brake pad material and wore out sooner on one side. Then the pad begins to line up crooked and can get wedged in that way. Rust and dirt can get in around the caliper's pistons and wedge it out. They only release tension, not have a mechanism to pull away, so small resistances can hold the brakes on. Since, again, there is not a mechanized method of releasing tension on the brakes, if the union of the brake line to the caliper (or any joint) gets rusted (on the inside too) it can cause a resistance that the brake pedal can overcome, but the release force cannot. This would be the most expensive way to fix the brakes, and the most automatic by mechanics, since all the above issues would also be corrected in the process. The float pin and caliper piston issue could be saved by just taking it all off and cleaning them out and/or lubricating the parts that need it. Taking the wheel off and removing 4 bolts (two float pins and two bracket bolts disassembles the entire brake system to get to the components. Easy beginner task that might save you big $$.
- Q: What type of Brake system does the KIA SPECTRA has?ABS or HYD?
- pay attention to the guy that informed you to screw the piston in. turn in a clockwise path. many cases, you may get with the help of with using a pair of needle nosed pliers. Take the needle nostril and positioned them in the two notches, and press firmly and change clockwise on the comparable time. in case you utilize a C clamp, you will finally end up paying for a sparkling caliper.
- Q: is it anti lock braking?
- Traction Control Braking. keeps yous wheels from locking up.
- Q: My dad owns a wrecker service and has given me a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Pick up 5.2 L V8. The truck runs great, but the brake pedal mashes all the way to the floor. The truck has been sitting up for about 3 months now. There is brake fluid (full) but the gasket under the cap was torn. I have been told there may be air in the line and should bleed the lines. Is this a waste of time considering that the reservoir was full or should I try this before replacing the master cylinder or booster? What should I look for to make sure it‘s not the master cylinder versus the booster? Thanks for all who help!!
- i would bleed the system before you replace anything. being that it has a torn gasket and brake fluid attracts moisture, the fluid could be contaminated. so i would suck out the fluid out of the reservoir, refill with fresh fluid and start bleeding the brakes. if that didnt help, then its the master cylinder.
- Q: the rear anti lock system prevents the traditional method
- anti loc brakes, have sencers on them, and really ought to be taken to a service center you trust, and let them do it. They have all the special tools to do the job quickly. If you try, go ahead, but if you snap off a bleeder valve, then your repair bill will get a whole lot bigger.a whole lot
- Q: The charging system light and brake light flash in unison then pauses and starts again. I‘m repairing my brakes tomorrow.
- if you have rear brake shoes and not pads. run the car in reverse and step on the brake hard. continue doing this until the brake pedal is higher and the lights are out. check fluid level in the master cylinder. this will be adjusting the brakes and should be done at regular intervals.
- Q: Im building a 1970 plymouth Duster and trying to find a modern Chrysler product that will interchange with a 1970 Plymouth duster for front disc brake system
- Good question, BUT there isn't any. you have to buy a kit, sorry. There are lots of spindle, rotor, caliper kits out there but nothing you can grab off a A,B or C body that will work. Why? well in 72 when disc brakes came out on the A body ( duster ) the spindle size and other thing were different. BUT there are some set ups where you remove the drum, toss the shoes, and install rotors and weld on a caliper kit to what you have, and then again BUT, how safe I have no Idea and then you still have to think about a booster and most defiantly a master cylinder and adjustable proportioning valve. Try Paddock or Wilwood for assistance
- Q: What is a bicycle brake system?
- Bicycle brake system: composed of brake parts, rider can control the car at any time, so that the bike to slow down, stop, to ensure traffic safety.
- Q: I would like to know if anyone can identify the block that the brake lines hooks onto that is mounted by the coil spring housing. the structure has some lines coming out of it. one line to master cylinder, one line to each of the two calipers. 1993 ford ranger two wheel drive. Can anyone identify this part, and if so, where would I be able to find a replacement. It is necessary, for my breaks are leaking around this area.
- I believe your talking about the proportioning valve, that might be a dealer only item but you can try a parts store, those rarely go bad, make sure it isn't one of the brake line fittings that go into the valve that's leaking.
- Q: heres the problem and any help believe me is greatly appreciated(i am a minimum wage worker with not alot money) it is a 95 ford taurus.when i first drive, there are no problems until it seems like the car gets warmed up.then gradually a rubbing sound gets louder and louder.i think its a rub because the slower i go the slower the rub is,faster ,the faster the rub.heres the kicker, when it is wet out side there is no rubbing soundrub may not be a correct term because this sound is LOUD. if i spray my tire(back left)with water, the sound quits for a while. last little info but the most important, when im driving and this LOUD sound is constant, when i apply my brakes the sound totally goes away. if i ride my brakes there is no sound whats so ever, but as soon as release the brake, the sound goes right back to the loud annoying constant sound.ANY HELP at all would be greatly apprecited at least so i know what the problem is so i dont get robbed when i take it in thank you!!!!!
- depends on the brakes sound like a caliper is sticking if you have pads, or a shoe that is hanging up if you have drums. if pads you coulsd start the cheapest by doing a four wheel brake flush if pads you will need to pull the drum and inspect the hardware. most shops will do a brake inspection free.call around hope this helps.
