- Q: they say that the front brake is like 70% and the back is 30 (or maybe 60/40) but anyways, which one would you normally use to slow down? i would guess the back one would be slowing down and the front would be for full stops? i dont own a bike yet, but of course, im curious and doing research.oh yea, if you slam on the back brake (the one near the footrest) your wheel wouldnt stop right? just slow down?
- That 70% is the braking force done by the front tire, not by the brake. You always, always, always, apply both front and rear brakes evenly. Never, ever, use more front brake than rear. You don't even need, a front brake at all. Many old and custom bikes, don't have one. That being said, two tires stop faster than one. In dry, conditions. Use both brakes evenly, using the front brake only, when you stop. If there is sand, gravel, water, ice, snow, oil, or anything else. Use only a very light touch, on the front brake. If you lock up the front tire, you will go down. If you lock up the rear tire, you can just ease up. No big deal. If you slam on the rear brake, it will lock up the rear tire. If you do this in a turn, the bike will slide out from under you. If you release the rear brake during a slide, you can high side. Very painful. You brake before and entering a turn. Once again evenly, front and back. You brake before the turn, to pre-load the front tire. Once you've slowed down, so you can make the turn, Let off the brakes, cost till you can gas and go. Hitting the gas to soon, will unload the front tire. Causing the front tire, to drift. Making you go wide, into oncoming traffic, or off the road. Take a motorcycle safety coarse, ride safe.
- Q: and would it look weird if i advertise for a girl to teach me to ride (im a girl) i think i‘d be more comfortable with that
- It doesnt take long at all! im a 15 yr old girl and i started learning at the start of the year (but i ride dirtbikes) and it took me the second or third time we went to the motorbike park until i was confident with changing gears. You just have to get used to the bike, its power and changing gears, and also to find neutral (which is inbetween 1st and 2nd gear). Im not sure if yours is a dirtbike or a road bike, but i know for sure with a dirtbike you need to learn how to kickstart it, and what i mean by that is if you stall the bike and youre in gear, then you need to pull the clutch in and kickstart it, and kick down to 1st gear to get going again. Otherwise kickstart it in neutral as you dont need to pull the clutch in. Its just basic stuff like that that you need to learn, but a lot of it is common sense! Im pretty sure road bikes would be very similar to all of this! Its really fun once youre confident and no its fine about a girl teaching you! Its absolutely fine! Hope this helps :)
- Q: What is the engine brake in the mini-off-road motorcycle?
- The engine brake is to let the wheels "come down" the engine
- Q: I‘m wondering because they drive on the wrong side of the car and street over there, and their bicycles have the brake levers reversed.
- Traffic has been using the left side of the road for at least 2000 years; it allowed horsemen to greet or defend against passing horsemen with their stronger, right hand. The change to using the right side is relatively recent, and probably due to larger horse-drawn wagon drivers sitting to the left of their multiple horses in order to control them with their stronger, right hand. Just as in cars now, the driver wants to be sat at the inside of the road rather than at the offside to better judge the clearance for passing vehicles. Some countries therefore switched to using the right side of the road, while others continued to use the left to avoid confusion (especially when they didn't share land borders with other countries, like the British Isles, and didn't have cross-border traffic to contend with). Just as in a car, even though the drivers position switches sides, the throttle is still the right-hand pedal, the brake in the middle and the clutch on the left. Like others have said, motorcycle controls have been standardised for some time also.
- Q: I disassembled and cleaned my brakes with a brake cleaner because one piston wasn‘t retracting and the brake was dragging. I just need to know what kind of grease or lub to use on the pistons. Hyosung GT250R.
- Brake fluid or as mentioned by others, a small amount of silicon during the re-assembly process. For your information, brake fluid is a lubricant. Be certain you are using the correct brake fluid. Major difference between DOT 4 and DOT 5. Good Luck
- Q: other than to do a stoppie, it seems pointless. but I‘ve never been a hardcore biker.
- It's there to stop the bike. When you stop hard the weight shifts to the front so most of the weight ends up on the front wheel. Did you notice the brakes are bigger on front or on some bikes you have 2 discs on front and one on back. During a hard stop about 80% of the braking is done by the front wheel. You would never be able to make a fast stop with out a front brake.
- Q: i was in a car wreck that messed up my left arm and they had to take out my shoulder joint and split my elbow joint and put half of it in my shoulder, apart from that my left hand is like retarded and **** so i cant use it anymore so i wanted to know if i could put a clutch and brake on one handle bar of my motorcycle
- there is a guy in our district who has no left hand- he straps his left hook to the handlebars, has both clutch brake on the right, and races in the senior class, and does very well. so, the answer is a definite yes.
- Q: Hi guysI have a 1983 honda xl 185 and i am DESPERATELY trying to get it street legal, here is the list of issues/info-new battery and new signal relay-horn only beeps loudly when engine is revving ??-taillight dims when the turn signals are on (opposite to when the signals flash)-when applying either brake the turn signal (that is on) goes solid and the relay stops ticking-after messing around with it turning the flashers on etc for about 30 minutes (without motor running) the turn signals barely light up but the taillight stays on fairly strong - bad battery?-when revving all the lights are much brighterAny idea as to what is happening, i am going to check all grounds but am having trouble locating the frame grounds, any help is appreciated!
- I bought my first motorcycle in 1973, so I have been doing this awhile. I would recommend hanging out at a local motorcycle shop. Everyday people with all kinds of experience come into a shop. If you have bought your parts locally, hang there, grovel a little, or offer to do some chores in exchange for some help from the shop. Ask the riders that stop by the shop. Just because someone is riding a $15,000 motorcycle, doesn't mean they won't help you, or maybe even rode something just like you have. Other riders have helped me, more than I can remember. Youtube has videos on almost everything. Search for your make and model, or search for electrical wiring or rewiring for motorcycles. If you lived close, I'd stop by and take a look. I bet if you ask enough people, one or more will steer you in the right direction. You are learning, you will learn more. Good luck!
