Q: I'm wondering if it's better to brake when slowing or to downshift and then brake? When I bought my first motorcycle I was told that I should always downshift then start braking as it was better for the bike. I didn't think about it then but these days I have been wondering. I am sure that downshifting saves on brake pads but is it harder on the engine?
In one word, yes! I bought a 2000 Prelude from the original owner this March with only 24K on it and the car is fun to drive. My only regret is that it replaced my 2002 RSX which had a little more power and a little more head room. I am 5'-10 and I have to lay the seat back a little more than I would like when driving it. I am also not big on the car requiring premium fuel but since I only put about 2000 miles on it a year on the car since it is my summer ride, I can live with it. Hope that helps
Q: I drove about 13 minutes (5 miles) with the emergency break on. First time driving this car so I didn‘t really think about it. When I got out of the car, I noticed the smell of burnt rubber and the back left wheel was emanating heat, then realized that the EB was on. Do you think I‘ll have to get the brakes/pads replaced? I‘m going to try them out tomorrow to see if they work after they‘ve had time to cool off.
A good way to prevent this is to always set the ebrake HARD so the car will not move until released. You probably toasted the rear brakes. Too bad.
Q: I'm 16 almost 17 years old. Looking to buy a bike so i can drive it to school and work. This would be my 1st bike. Many people told me get a ninja 250 and there nice bikes but can they handle the highway? I would be going 60-70 mph. Would i be shaking around if wind its me? Someone said a suzuki katana.? Looking to spend $3500 but mainly wanna spend under $2500 on a used motorcycle. I weight 150lbs and Im 5-9. Please tell me reason for what your saying
The Ninja 250 is consistently rated as one of the best beginner bikes around. It can handle the highway, but it will be tossed a bit, as will any other bike. I wouldn't recommend riding on the highway any time soon; you need to get a strong feel for the bike before you try the highway. Another option would be the slightly larger Ninja 500R (older models are called the EX500). Still a good beginner bike, but a little more substantial. Try a few different bikes and see what feels comfortable. Fell will be among the most important factors. You need to feel comfortable and secure on a bike. Good luck!
Q: I just change my rear tire and now i have no rear brake. My father and I bleeded the system, but i still have no rear brake. Have any suggests to try, or what might be the problem with it?
If you have rear drums, your hyd cylinders may be the culprit, a slow leak. It is rare but the master cylinders have been known to leak into the boosters I doubt that your front discs are leakingleaky ABS valves are rare as well.
Q: Can I replace my motorcycles rear brake pads with newer pads from the front of the bike?
Possible but DONT, replace the rear set. Bikes do 80% of the braking on the front.
Q: Is the motorcycle brakes on the machine, or is it helpful? The Like a hydraulic brake cylinder The
Disc brakes
Q: how does disc brake works for motorcycles?
When the brake lever is squeezed/pressed brake fluid pushes a piston up against the brake pads. The brake pads are in turn pressed against the disc. Once the lever/pedal is released the pressure is relieved from the piston in turn releasing the disc to spin freely. Hope this helps.
Q: i drive stick and i never downshift rev match i just for example if im going 65 on 5th gear and break i just break to 20 shift it in the gear i think it needs to be , now with a motorcycle lets say lets say im going 65 on 5 gear ,if i want to break can i do the same thing? also can i break by breaking then when im about to stop put the clutch in and when what s stop hold the clutch in and shift to neutral or 1 gear with out letting the clutch go?
On a motorcycle it is always a good idea to stay in a gear that is compatible with the speed you are traveling, this allows you to stay in the 'power' level you may or may not need at any certain time. If you are in a higher gear while slowing the reaction time is minimal and you're already at a disadvantage being on a motorcycle to begin with.
Q: I've never ridden a motorcycle / driven a manual car, and i've got a few questions. I'm going to take an MSF course before I get my license, so don't be all noob.1) When stopped, is it ok to leave the clutch in and be in 1st gear or must you shift to neutral to not burn out the clutch?2) In an automatic car, I can be at a stop sign in drive with just the brake pushed in. I'm guessing you can't do that with manual in 1st?3) I've heard that when shiftings from N to 1st, you have to let out the clutch slowly, so how slow does this have to be compared to just dropping the clutch? Finally, what can I do to amuse myself before I can get my license? (I'm 15). I'm totally obsessed with motorcycles and I can't wait any longer!!Thanks!
1. Yes perfectly alright. 2. No, you must either be in neutral or have the clutch engaged 3. Not super slow, you only need to follow that rule when downshifting, and taking off from a dead stop.
Q: Approximately 3 weeks ago I brought my motorcycle to a repair shop because the front brakes were locking up (already caused one accident with one of my friends). They informed me that the bike was fixed and could be picked up. I jumped on the bike and rode off. Before I even reached 500 ft the brakes locked up again and threw me off the bike at 50 mph causing severe road rash along my entire body and fractures in my foot. My question is: is the repair shop liable for all costs involved, i.e medical costs, repair of the bike, pain and suffering? Here are some random facts:The bike is relatively new with 1200 miles on itI never signed anything waiving my rights for the repairsmy wife was following me in my car and seen the whole accident, now she has nightmares seeing me tumble lifelessly through the air. Should I attempt to seek therapy for her ?
They are probably responsible for the repairs, as far as the accident goes I would talk that over with a Lawyer. I can tell you why your brakes are locking up, you either have moisture in the brake fluid and the seals are swollen, or there is dirt in the system. Either way the fix is to drain and flush the brake system and do a caliper rebuild kit to replace all the seals. I personally would do the back brake also as it probably also needs to be done.
