- Q: im buying an old motorcycle from a friend and it needs a little work. it needs new mirrors, turning signals, and brake lamps.how much is it gonna cost to get this bike street legal again???
- Both answers above me are on the right track. Can't tell without knowing. Parts for an old BMW are going to be more than for an old Honda. Buying used parts from a salvage yard is an effective way to control costs. I could get all of those parts for an old Japanese bike at my local guy for about 5 or 10 bucks apiece.
- Q: Motorcycles
- The 03 levers will not work on an 09. The piovt pins are different diameter and if the 09 has a clutch safety switch, the 03 clutch lever doesn't have the actuating tab. The pins were changed in 04 on the new rubber-mount engine/chassis and I can't remember what year they started using the clutch safety switch. You will need to get levers made to fit an 09.
- Q: Hi. I currently ride a Honda CG 125 however I haven‘t been riding a geared bike long. My problem is that I tend to use the front brake all the time as I feel it is more convenient for me and don‘t use the back brake. Do you have any tips in which I can practise using my back brake? Many thanks
- The back brake is very important when stopping a bike. The rear brake accounts for about 20% of your stopping power. As you stop the weight of the motorcycle shifts towards the front of the bike and progressively removes weight from the rear brake. So, the front contains most of the stopping power. However; Do you really want to reduce your breaking power by 20%? In a panic stop 20% is VERY important. Consider an obstacle 100ft in front of you, apply both brakes you have 20 feet to spare, apply only the front you are on top of the obstacle.
- Q: sometimes my husband‘s motorcycle gets hung up in curves and then only wants to go straight. it then cannot be controlled. the last time it happened, he had to slam on both brakes and skid to a stop. does anyone know why the bike does this? does anyone know how to prevent this from happening? he has a Harley Davidson 883
- I have a couple questions. Were you or are you on the back when this happens? If so maybe you aren't leaning into the turn with him. This will definitely cause the bike to go straight. If this is happening sometimes and he is the only one on the bike when this happens then he could be doing something wrong sometimes. He may have a bad wheel bearing (I'm thinking front but raise the bike off the ground and check both) or loose wheel or the wheels aren't aligned. Check the front forks to make sure neither tube is loose in the triple tree clamps and the tubes are even height with each other. And check the swing arm too to make sure there is no slop side to side. Could be loose or a bad bearing again. Check to make sure the rear shocks are secure especially at the bottom where they attach to the swing arm. If you don't find a problem in either of these places I'd have to say your husband is doing something wrong. Ask yourself is this happening in left or right hand turns or both. When does it happen most often? Does it happen in hard tight turns or long sweepers? Does it happen with you on the back or when he's alone or both? Take your time , be cautious, think and look and you'll get it figured out. Good Luck
- Q: The kind that are on mountain bikesi like doing wheeles but cant control them as well because my front brake is a handle lever (pointless) and for my rear wheels its kind of a foot pedal located near where i put my right foot while riding normally. usually i i have stand on the back grab bar cuz it doesnt have a lot of engin power. basically im asking if and how if i can put a handle bar lever brake for my rearwheels if theres not one already there. BTW i have an Arctic Cat DVX 250 4-strokeredlawl. im not really sure if u needed the color. whoever has the answer.very much thankx. and no just YES or NO answers pleez!!!!!!!!!
- Just get a longer brake cable at the ATV shop or motorcycle shop, and put a lever on the handlebars. Run the cable to it, and use cable ties to hold it to the frame as you run it to the back wheels.
- Q: A motorcycle can become airborne by speeding over a steep hill. How far will travel? What happens if the rider applies the brakes while in the air?
- The distance that a motorcycle can travel upon leaving a ramp dependent on the following: 1. velocity at which it leaves the ramp 2. angle at which it leaves the ramp 3. air resistance Even it the rider applies the brakes while in the air, nothing will change the physics of the situation. The motorcycle will keep on going on its path until it touches the ground or lands on something.
- Q: Honda motorcycle is how to use the brake system
- If the drum brake, check the brake shoe and wheel brake pad wear, and if possible, change the problem, if the brake shoe quality is not good, will also affect the braking performance. Check the brake pedal, drawbar, cable, etc. whether there is a problem, such as the installation angle, the brake wire twisted into a twist spring, etc., which will also affect the braking performance. If it is a disc brakes, check whether there is air in the brake pump, tubing and brake oil, whether the brake pump is out of pressure or jammed, whether the brake pads and the brake disc wear too much and replace the brake pump if necessary.
