Q: All water pump have diferent caracteristics, but it is imposible to overcome a certain hight...what is that hight and why?
If you are talking about the limit on the suction side of a pump then the answer is about 34 feet. This is because due to atmospheric pressure that is all the water can be raised without the portion at the bottom of the column starting to vaporize. 14.7 psia (atmospheric pressure) equals 33.9 feet of water.
Q: I replaced the water pump on my 350 chevy small block and the thing is leaking out of the lower bolt hole on the passenger side. I was told to remove the bolt and coat it with permatex hi tack gasket sealer and reinstall it. Any how I'm wondering why there would be a leak there in the first place, any ideas?
my first response is, you used a wrong gasket or you mucked up the gasket when you installed it. Then i think of maybe the water pump casting cracked when you tightened the bolt. ( but not likely) . I guess you could try the sealer thing. but you could test it to see if it leaking from under the bolt head. The way you could do that is put a soft washer , like copper washer under the bolt head and put the bolt back in. the soft copper washer will make a water tight seal. if it were me , i would remove the pump and find out what the hay is wrong . i have replaced at least 6 water pumps on my own chevys, and have never had that problem.
Q: My 2001 300M is behaving oddly. Occasionally it will gradually overheat after I have driven around for 15 or so minutes. Yes, occasionally. I took it to my mechanic who changed the thermostat and hoses. I then drove it on a trip on the interstate and over a mountain (140 miles ) It was fine with no signs of overheating. Then the next day when I drove to work in the city, the stop and go traffic had it overheating near the end of the trip. I've been able to keep it from going in the red by using the heater. After this happened most of the days, but not all, I took it back to the shop. He reported that the fans were working correctly and the only thing he could come up with is a weak water pump. He stated that when it did get hot, he was able to bring the temp down just by rev'ing the engine a little.Does that sound right? Any other ideas and how to test?
If he said the temp fell by revving the engine one of two things either the water pump is going out the bearing is failing and faster RPMS is pushing the water pump inside to spin faster and the bearing is starting to catch and work and spon the propeller OR the radiator is plugged or needs to be replaced. If the radiator is going bad it could be restricting water and more RPMS once again is pushing the water through the radiator to cool it. The other thing it could be is a radiator cap if it is not holding pressure then it will cause the water inside to boil slightly and make it hotter also. I would by a new cap and do the water pump. Those are the two cheapest. If that doesn't fix it then do a radiator.
Q: When you are replacing a water pump on a vehicle, should you replace the timing belt on the vehicle as well?
This depends on the vehicle. On some cars, the water pump is driven by the timing belt. On these cars, you should always replace the timing belt and water pump at the same time. When you have the engine apart, the only additional cost is the actual cost of the part. The labor should be the same. On other cars, the water pump is driven by the serpentine or fan belt. The timing belt and the water pump are not related, so there is no rule that both should be replaced.
Q: Who can tell me such water pump medium flow direction should be what kind of, from left to right, or from right to left, is low into the higher?
In the picture, to the right is the entrance, the left is the exit, the water pump inlet channel section area generally will be bigger than the export.
Q: 95 mustang leaking water pump changed the pump and its running backward now
Belt is routed incorrectly. Do not feel bad as this is actually a common mistake. Another possibility is the Parts Store sold you the wrong pump. This engine (5.0 I assume) was availiable in multiple vehicles and the Mustang was the only one I know of that had some that turned backwards
Q: How much does it cost to have either the thermostat or water pump fixed on a car?
Depending on the year and make, you may find some guys who'll do it for a case of beer for labor....just check with your neighbors. Seriously. My brother does this on the side sometimes.
Q: Is there a way to test and see if it is the water pump that causes the car heater to blow hot air one time and then, next time it blows cold air? We flushed the heater core and did other tests, so we do not believe it is the heater core. We left the radiator cap off and ran the car (ford thunderbird..'94) for 20 minutes and watched the antifreeze level come up, but doesn't go down, not circulating. We cannot afford to go to another garage. None of them seem to know what to do anywyas and we keep paying people to fix the heater and it is not fixed. We have put two new thremostats in car, too, figuring that maybe the first one may have been faulty, but should we try that again?
Check heater control valve ( on one of the heater hoses going into the firewall), make sure there is no vacuum leak to it or the heat door. Does air blow on the floor when your heater is on? When you slide or turn the temp selector on your control panel you either move a cable or supply vacuum to a door that shifts air flow from vent to floor, is this happening?
Q: It is used in a water pumping station.
It a waterproof pump that go underwater without shorting out. It uses an impeller to move the water. Some impellers look like a star and some look like the Impeller on a car water pump. There different designs depending on the amount of water the pump will pump.
Q: Yesterday my car was making squeaky noises in the front and then the fan came on FULL FORCE it sounded lik an airplane. It then started to over heat. I looked to see if there was any antifreeze/coolant in it and it was BONE DRY. I found out the water pump is bad. My boyfriend wants to change it himself but he doesn't know if where it is located is so complex he should take it to a mechanic. He has changed water pumps before. If you know anything about this.. your advice is very much appreciated!!
get a book on you car from autozone and he can fix it. and would give him step by step directions on what to do.
