Q: I was thinking of buying a fujita short ram intake for my 2005 Acura Rsx, but im not sure which one to choose, any help or answers? Thanks,
Both are fairly bogus concepts in a modern car. Your Acura, like all modern cars, already has a cold air intake. Any difference in restriction only appears for a few seconds at full throttle and very high rpm - at less than full throttle the throttle restriction is more than the air filter and at all but the most extreme rpm the stock filter restriction is negligible. The short ram is a throwback to the under-hood intakes that spawned cold air intakes in the first place. At high speeds it can bring cold air in decently, but that's about it. Perhaps the ram effect will help? Well, ram air pressure is ambient air pressure (just under 15 psi at sea level) times the square of the speed relative to the speed of sound at that temperature. 60 mph, for example, is 60/767 or .078 mach. The ram air pressure is .09 psi (0.078^2 x 15). At 30 mph the boost drops off to 1/4 that, .022 psi. That .09 psi at 60 mph is equivalent to reducing your altitude 150 ft.
Q: I‘m looking for a cheap cold air intake for my 88 Silverado with a 350 tbi engine. Should I get the open type that sits on the carb or the tube style intake? I liked the sound and acceleration of the tube intake on my Town Car but I‘ve never heard or driven a car or truck with the open type. (Please don‘t tell me I‘m wasting my money, I just want to see what everyone else prefers.) Thanks.
KN intakes are industry standard, I'd say tube style.
Q: Looking to buy an exhaust system on my honda 2001 LX civic, but I have only 200 dollars.I dont want it to sound like a Pissed off bumblebee ---- if that makes sense ;)Or should I buy a decent cold air intake?Either way, Ill have the both of these within a month. But which first. What kind should I get.which exhausT?
if the car is automatic, don't waste your money on either. if you're serious about performance, then get the intake first. you only have $200 and a decent exhaust system upgrade costs way more than that. you should do some more MINOR tweaking under the hood before springing cash for the exhaust so that when you do get it, you'll notice somewhat of a difference. its funny.i have a 2006 lx; if you and i had an opportunity to get our hands on a turbo charged ride or a turborcharger, WE WOULD HAVE ONE. but we don't. whether it's due to financial reasons or whatever, we're just trying to make do with what we have. i personally would be happy from a 7-12hp gain- even if it's not all at the wheel. it's a start. it's a project. it's hoping that one day i'll be able to get that turbo (if they even make it) and create a decent sleeper. if your ideals are similar to mine, the car is stick, and you really are into or want to be into tuning, then don't get discouraged and get the intake for starters. besides, that's where most people on limited budgets start anyway.
Q: would any1 recommend this cold air intake?if yes/no, why?plz write a little review
yea sure. how about a turbokit if your gunna go there might as well take it all the way. (if you haven't already)
Q: on a 1997 mitsubishi galant , the check engine light came on and i was told it could be because of the aftermarket intake
Yes it will, but what a horrendous situation to have to deal with. Just offer him all the support you can.
Q: is it hard to replace the air intakes for a 1993 300zx.
No, is not. You need to unscrew a couple of bolts to take off the nose panel first. Then you, unscrew the stock intake, which looks rectangular for both sides. You just snap a cone pref. (Jim Wolf Tech. Intake) into the T elbow right after the MAF. If you but a JWT intake for about $100, you should get instructions. Installation should be about 30min.
Q: one of my friends told me i couldn't put a cold air intake on my 1985 firebird cuz it has a carburator? is that true? if so y is it true?
Sure. Will it accomplish anything? Sure. The same thing that all cold air intakes accomplish. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. The difference in density from ambient air, to cooler air, provides for only a marginal gain. Most of the gains that people see, are from switching to larger intake piping and filter. But with a carbed engine, you already have a large filter, and no piping, so there's no gain there. If your friend has a cold air intake, you can tell him that too. At best, he/she may have gained about 2-3 wheel horsepower. An average driver is unable to notice any difference in power of less than 15hp, so there's no benefit at all. Nevermind that it only increases 1/4 mile time by approximately .05 of a second. A good oil change will do the same.
Q: I have a 97 ford probe GT(2.5L 24v).would air intake have a significant impact on power? I used to drive a 4 cylinder camry will 50K more miles on it and at times I feel that it had more pep than my probeis there any downside to air intake and what are the differences between ram air, cold air, etc.I know some guys who are more into cars than me and they said its just a good thing to have because puts less strain on the engine. I was lookin at kn or AEM they seem to be the most popular, is $150 about right?
yes, that packing needs removed, it only keeps the coils from shifting during shipping. :o)
Q: so ive decided to buy a cold air intake and a throttle body for my 2000 mustang from americanmuscle when i get the money. just some quick questions before i do though Does the cold air intake really increase the chance of engine flooding? because it flooded a bit here about a week ago and there was some huge puddles, and im scared if that happened again while i had a cold air inake it would suck up the water and the engine would be gone. How does a throttle body increase horsepower? and how much hp would be gained with a throttle body and a cold air intake? Are there any dangers with the throttle body or the CAI?how much would it cost to get a CAI installled? and a throttle body?thanks in advance.
when you say flooding what is meant to be said is hydro-locking which is what happens when your intake sucks in water and yes when you take away the air box and place the filter closer to the ground the chances of taking in water are greater
Q: Ok i have a 2004 Pontiac Grand am Se. I want to get a cold air intake because short ram doesn‘t do anything except blow hot air. But i can see that the cold air intake is located by the fender. If you hit a puddle wouldn‘t the cold air intake suck water in then?????? That‘s the only thing im worried about because my grand am only has 40,000 miles on it and i don‘t want the engine to floodPlease help!!!! and Does anybody know any other intakes that are good for Pontiac grand amAlso Does anybody know any places that will install the intake because i have no clue how to do it Thanks
I would say a bad windshield motor.
