- For daily driving, it's not worth shelling out a fortune for KN. As long as you're not building a show car, an eBay bomz CAI would work just fine. You're not going to see a significant improvement to your car with this install. Maybe a few HP and a slightly better throttle response but don't expect your gas mileage to get better. You can't get more power and fuel economy together. Gotta sacrifice one for the other (or balance them nicely). Also, KN filters need to be oiled. I'm not sure if all CAI intakes are like this, but I know this annoys some people when their filter needs to be cleaned.
- Q: Hi, I just ordered a cold air intake with the piping and filter off of eBay, for my 86 prelude, but it did not come with a heat shield. Does a heat shield do anything? And would I be able to make one myself because I can‘t find any online.
- It is called a heat shield, but it is more like a divider under the hood. It houses the cold air intake filter (Like an air box). In there, cold air is being such in from the outside. Higher temperature air under the hood can't get in there. The cold air intake system project is a fun project, but don't expect anything out of it. It does very little to your car, you won't notice it. You can hear the induction noise much better, however. You can wrap the intake pipe with something to keep it cool. It does not soak up heat as much. If you want your car faster, the cheap way is to make it lighter, and put on smaller wheels. Save up money for a new car. You can't turbo a carburetor. It has no ECU.

- save your money, none of this fake air intakes have been proven to work, and there is no cold air filter better than the one that came with your car. Keep in mind that anything you do to make the engine work harder, is going to make it blow up sooner. These fake plastic sewerpipe air filters get many complaints here, some times the car will not start, or the computer kicks an engine check light. The manufacturer may claim bolt on but it does not. There is no place for important sensors, and on and on. before trying to make your engine run harder, ask your trusted mechanic whats the best thing for your car and see what he says.Sorry if this is not the answer you were looking for, but I have read many comments from people who payed up to 300 dollars, and got almost nothing they could even notice other than the intake of air is louder. this does not equal horsepower.

- Yes, this will help the engine breathe. Air and fuel are directly proportional to horsepower. Increase them and you'll increase horsepower, provided you don't overgas or burn too lean. Good luck. Don't know what books Manny is reading, but I think he needs to study a little more. Ram air into an in-line engine is highly efficient as well. Most mftr will go as far as adding a turbo, like Ford with the 2.3 and Dodge with the 2.2.

- ok cold air intake is longer and is usually by the fender of your car so it sucks up cooler air, cooler air molecules result in more horse power. short ram intake is just in your engine but it just sucks up underhood heat so you wont get much performance unless you but a cool box to cover the cone so it woth get heat in there. my choice would be a cold air intake and you can make it short ram just take a tube off and put on a screw strap and your done. get one on OKorder their cheap. oh and for the record it doesent matter what brand it is because all intakes are the same, made out of the same metals, and all do the same thing. SUCK AIR .

- The one under the Rudder is called an APU --- Auxiliary Power Unit. It is used as an auxiliary source of either electrical power or pneumatic (air) for air conditioning for the cabin areas. Air intake comes from an inlet air door on the right side of the aircraft. Additional comment: The APU is NOT used or rated against the airframe for propulsion. It can be used when the aircraft is airborne as an auxilary means, but altitude restrictions and other procedures would take affect. - The best air intake for your car is the one that was designed for your car by the manufacturer. After market cold air intakes are nothing but a scam. They do absolutely nothing positive for your car except make it sound different. Cold air intakes don't work because your fuel and air mixture is controlled by the car computer and any change to the stock intake will result in problems with your engine sensors. The computer will see any change to the intake as a problem to correct by attempting to adjust the fuel / air mixture to the original factory settings that it was programmed to maintain.
