- Q: i replace all the seals on the water pump reinstalled it and the same thing happened... it leaks out the bottom some where and run down the water pump and down the hot side radiator hose... any ideas?
- you reinstalled the old pump? most water pump area leaks are the water pump itself. it will have a small hole located near where the lower hose hooks up, that hole is called the weep hole. when a pump begins failing it begins weeping. a water pump for that vehicle is only about $30. so cheap you should never even think of reusing the old pump if you remove it for any reason. you'll need to replace teh gasket, again, and you'll want to use blue rtv high temp silicone lightly on the gasket.

Did this a few times and finally gave up. Pump wasn't hot and impeller was still good. Wondering if I just didn't let it run long enough?

- Never get a dealership to work on your car unless you're not paying for it. Get a good garage to do it for you instead. If you're mechanically inclined you might be able to do it yourself, but im not sure how hard it is since it sounds like your timing belt powers your waterpump (just makes it more difficult, whereas my car has a separate belt that powers my WP). Otherwise you got a honda engine in there it sounds like, so it's not going to be insanely complicated.

- then buy a new one and get your self some tools and a repair manual at autoparts store not much to it once you see what it looks like you start removing parts that are in way til you can take it off clean the old gasket off well and but some blue selicone put on new gasket and put on new pump tighten it put back on all the parts you remove fill radiator start check for leaks should be able to do it on the weekend about three to four hours or lless... any of these will help all about the same as the other but it will give you a better ideal of how to do it and your sure to learn more about your car so doing it would be best not only you learn but you save money too... not hard to replace most parts hard part is knowing what is wrong to replace it so you got the hard part done knowing what is wrong
- Q: I took my 04 Grand Prix to the mechanic for a coolant change. My car had never drip coolant until after the coolant change . I took my car today to the same mechanic and he told me that the problem was the water pump and wants to charge me 70 dollars. Could changing the coolant affect the water pump. Or did the mechanic damaged the water pump on purpose.
- its hard to say the technition damaged the pump , and most likely he didnt . being an 04 model and if the car has the engine i think it does then it was probably a matter of time the pump went out anyway and 70 dollars is a ''good'' deal if parts were included .so count your blessings. those pumps are notorius for going bad but easily changed and remember to check and use the proper coolant on a regualr basis the ph level and potency for temp . i have installed pumps on these cars and some people have ignored my advice to replace them when dripping only to have it cost them a small fortune in the end for warping the heads.

- It shouldn't in all probability take that long for a water pump. till they are changing the cam belt on the comparable time which could be greater like it. despite the fact that if ?40 an hour is slightly on the steep component. Get a cost from yet another storage or 2 for the comparable interest and see in case you will discover everywhere greater much less high priced
