- Q: My boyfriend told me that my car needs a new water pump. He said this because when you start the car, it sounds like trickling water is coming from somewhere in the engine bay. The car overheated once before and he put coolant in it, ever since then, it hasn't overheated. But last week he told me that I shouldn't drive it at all because the pump is about to go. I went out today and started it to see if I can hear the quot;grindingnoise that I read about online and all I hear was the trickling sound. It's rainy outside so I can't tell if the pump is leaking water from the quot;weepquot;. Is it the water pump? I want to make a two mile round trip to go pick up sushi and the place is a mile there and a mile back. Will I seize my engine or get stranded if I make this tiny trip? Is it my water pump?
- You don't mention make, model, or year, but it could be the water pump or some other leak. Your boyfriend can see the car so I am leaning toward his explanation. Check the first source for your make, model, and year, and engine type if you know it. If the entry for your car (or for any of the engines for your car, if you don't know which one) has a # after it the timing belt drives the water pump. If that is so, don't drive it at all until you either determine it is not the water pump or it is repaired. If the pump seizes and it is driven by the timing belt the timing belt will fail. And if the engine is an interference design (has an * along with the #) that will probably cause serious engine damage. The safe thing to do in any case is to try to bum a ride from a friend in the meantime. The shifting problem is probably something else.
- Q: Our water pump had a leak in one of the pipes which kept making us Los the prime. I've replace the piping so it no longer leaking but I can't get I to work. The pump runs but the water doesn't move-. The pressure says it is at 50 but nothing. Also its a sahllow well pump jut bought last sprig.Any ideas? Sorry for the bad grammar new to this tablet.
- replace the sump pump or try placing a check valve in the line if the pump it too far away from the water source
- Q: how to install a main pipe water pump to service the community?
- Installation of water pump is very easy, any certified plumber and electrician can install electric water pump. Your question maybe is, how to design water pump water system to service the community? To determine the correct rating of water pump to be used and to design a water system, here are the steps : 1) Determine the safe discharge yield of your well for your water source, by series of tests. This will enable you to know discharge rate of well and the draw back time of water after pumping. This data will be used for designing a pump (its discharge capacity). Note that pump discharge capacity should be lower than well safe yield capacity in order not to drain the well. 2) Determine the suction lift or height of water table in the well by measuring the height from water table up to the top of the well. This data will be used for pump design (its suction lift/height capacity). Pumps suction lift varies depends on its Horsepower capacity and the type of pump (submersibble or centrifugal). 3) Determine number of households in the community. This data will be used for the design of reservoir (tank) for your water system and the number of hours for the pump to operate to fill the tank. Note that the average usage of water is 120 liters per day per capita. So the more the number of population, the bigger the tank and the longer the pumping time in order to meet the per capita usage. 4) Determine the elevations from your water source towards the community to be served. Use survey instrument to determine the elevations. This data will be used to design a height of the tank and the sizes of service pipes towards the community. The higher the difference in elevation from your source towards community, the lower the height of the tank and the smaller the sizes of service pipes. Sizes of service pipes can be determined by hydraulic heads (heights). By following these steps, I gues you can now design and construct a water system.
- Q: I have replaced the presure switch on my water pump but it switches on and off when it is building up presure instead on staying on until it gets to right presure.Any ideas of what is causing this?
- The switch may have gotten some debris in it. Try removing it(again) Clean the passage way out. If possible try running the water a few seconds while this is off to clear any debris than reinstall and check. It also could be low pressure in the expansion tank or a bad bladder in same.
- Q: I have a water leak, and not from the radiator. It is on the side of the motor where the timing belt is. Could it be the water pump? or possibly freeze plugs? If so where are these?
- On your car the timing belt drives the water pump. At the same time check the tension er. and replace the belt. its a big job. you drop the front engine mount on most models.
- Q: trying to instal pump and I can't get fan blade off It is a1999 chev 5,7 vortex
- you need a tool they rent it at autozone. its two big wrenches that u use together to take it off.
- Q: Even when all water is shut off in the camper, my water pump keeps running. Even when the tank is completely empty. Does anyone know what is causing this?
- I might be miss-understanding your question. If you have no water in the tank then the pump will run all the time because you won't build enough pressure in the system to shut it off. There should be a switch to turn it off manually. If your system has water in it and pump still won't shut off then it could be several different things: 1. Pump is bad and leaking internally... do you have good pressure at the faucet? 2. There should be a pressure cut-out switch somewhere near the pump. This switch should shutoff the pump when the ideal pressure is reached and prevent the pump from over pressurizing the system. Make sure it is not stuck closed. (May have to remove to test) Check for continuity across the terminals with pressure with the pressure on and off. If it doesn't' change... replace. 3. You could have a leak somewhere in the system not allowing the system to build pressure. 4. There may be a pressure relief valve somewhere in the system that is stuck open and dumping your pressure back into the suction side of the pump. Good Luck!
- Q: I've been looking online and can't find anywhere that tells me how to replace the water pump in my 1999 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0. Help please.
- I know yours is a Jetta, but most of the 'guts' are the same, and the ppl on this forum are very helpful. Also, a lot of them have other VW's and there's an area to discuss that. I second Tex's opinion that you'll need to do the TB at the same time. And make sure the replacement WP you get has METAL impellers, not plastic like the OEM crap. Good luck and hope to see you on the forum :)
- Q: How do I check my well water pumping system to see if there is a leak? I have terrible rusty water.
- the only way to check it is to have a well pump service pull the pump and check the verticle lines. they tend to rust out. you can have them replaced by pvc lines now. when our pump went out we had all of the lines replaced because several of the galvanized lines had pin holes in them
- Q: I REPLACED MY WATER PUMP ON MY 1988 CHEROKEE,THE NEW PUMP STARTED MAKING THE SAME BEARING NOISE.
- if it is not anything else making the noise then perhaps you have a defective pump....if that jeep has a 4.0 with a manual tensioner then it is very easy to overtighten the belt and cause pre mature failure of the front bearing in the water pump
