Q: Hi all, I went on vacation and forgot to turn my water heaters to vacation! When I returned the water was cold coming through the faucet. After some investigation I realised the water heater pump had tripped the trip switch on the main electric panel. I reset it and thought all would be fine. Now it is OK for a day or two and then it trips the electric panel again. Any Ideas on what is the matter and how I might fix it? The water heaters themselves are fine and are burning all OK. Many Thanks!
Your problem could be in the breaker itself. It is possible the breaker is bad and needs replaced. Usually if a heating element burns out it will not tripp the breaker. If an element has burned out you can still use the water heater but your water will not be as hot and will not last as long when running the hot water because it is only heating at 110 instead of 220. If you have knowledge about electricity and have a tester, you can test the elements to see if they are working or not. Make sure you have the breaker to the heater shut off before you try testing the elements. Take the two wires off the element and with the tester check and see if shows any resistance on the test meter. If it shows resistance the element is most likely ok. Check the second element the same way. If you find one with no resistance on the tester then that element could be the problem. Not always, but most of the time the lower element will be the one burned out. Your description doesn't sound like a thermostat problem. New elements are not expensive and you can get them at your local hardware stores, Lowe's or Home Depot stores. If you want to change them out yourself, you will need to drain the water heater to remove the elements. You will also need a wrench (socket) to take the elements out because they screw into the water heater. Take the old elements with you when you go to get new ones so you make sure to get the right elements. To put the new elements in just reverse the procedure. Always make sure before you do anything to shut the breaker off to the water heater. If the new elements does not correct the problem the breaker would be the next thing to look at.
Q: Home water well is artesian, to holding tank. I am needing to replace my pump yearly. Inside of the pump is rusted, this causing a real loud whining sound before failure. Pump motor isn't failing, the inside of the pump ends up freezing loosing the ability to spin.Any suggestions as to why?
Hi I was (now retired) in the pumping industry pumps for the kind of use you appear to be using them for were normally stainess steel or stainless steel and plastic. I would suggest you look at the Xylem ( a major supplier and installer of pumps) site. Regards John
Q: I have taken off the fan, and radiator, and ect, and i'm down to this silver circle thing-the fan clutch i believe and black circualr piece that connects to the actual water pump. I need help getting the quot;fan clutchoff. I tried using a wrench and wrenching on this peice between that and the black piece, but i cant stop the black piece from moving. I tried this site called pelican or w.e, but they dont tell u how to do that. I'm stuck, plz help!
Usually there is a notch, slot, or hole in the housing into which you can insert a screw driver or punch to prevent it from turning and then you can use the wrench on the bolts.
Q: ok so i have a crack in my radiator a small crack but anyways yesterday it caused my car to over heat. i normally keep coolant in the car but it just got low and over heated pretty bad. so today the car is making a really loud annoying noise. coolant is also draining out of the bottom of the engine when the car is on. at a pretty good pace. it is coming out like right under the belt area so my friend said it is probably the water pump baring and he said it could have gotten damaged when it over heated. so i think these symptoms def point to the water pump. anyways i called a mechanic and he said that he had to change the belt to and he said he had to charge me $385. what you guys think. does he need to change the pump and the belt or just the pump? and is $385 a rip off or is that the going rate? thank you all for your knowledgeand information
Read the above PLUS realize that you MUST use ONLY genuine Toyote coolant in your car. Other coolants will cause further deterioration of your cooling components. I have seen Toyota cylinder heads that look like Swiss cheese from using the green stuff. Also, make sure that your mechanic uses only genuine Toyota replacement parts, and NOT rebuilt pump. Replace the tensioner and idler pulleys now, as well. The price is a rip off if cheaper parts are being used. If these are all factory parts, then this price is GREAT!!
Q: I have a 1 HP water pump that will pump water through a 1 and 1/2hose. What is the approx. GPM (just to have a reference) of a pump like this?
It varies quite a bit but I would say anywhere from 6gpm - 10gpm.
Q: My dad wants to buy a salt water pump for a tiny pool.I'm not sure if it's pointless for the size that the pool is, but it is 12x12x3Is it too small of a pool or are there salt water pumps meant for tiny pools that I could look at?A link to any would be nice. :)Thanks!
If you live the ocean try the shipyard, or any ,were around dock...or online..
Q: A circular swimming pool has a diameter of 12 meters. The sides are 3 meters high and the depth of the water is 2.5 meters. How much work is required to pump all of the water over the side?
the quantity of the water interior the trough is, V(h) the place h is the peak of the water interior the trough. The one million/2 perspective on the backside of the trough is B tan B = h /(w/2) the place w is the area around the trough tan B = 4 /(12/2) = 4/6 = 2/3 2/3 = h /(w/2) (w/2) 2/3 = h w = 3 h the component to the bypass-component to the trough A, is then A = h w /2 = h(3h)/2 = 3/2 h^2 the quantity is then V(h) = A * L = (3/2 h^2) 12 = 18 h^2 dV/dt = 36 h dh/dt dh/dt = dV/dt /(36 h) dV/dt = 9 ft^3/min dh/dt = 9 /(36 * 12) = one million/forty 8 ft /min
Q: i am not sure whether the water pump is bad or how much water should come out of exhaust.
take it in.
Q: Water is leaking from the front of my car, on the right where the radiator is located. only thing is that its not leaking a lot, just a little.... but people keep telling me that my timing belt is going to go out and that i will be stranded!. i will like to know the cost of both the water pump and timing belts for my 2001 PT Cruiser please.
Pt Cruiser Water Pump
Q: my 98 expedition keeps over heating, i replaced the water pump, thermostat, coolant. it will be fine one minute then it overheats. weather im on the road or sitting at a light. i also replaced the fan clutch. thanks!
I would check the radiator first and if its not it then your looking at a bad head or head gasket if u have already replaced what u said u have
