Q: The press has been called the ___________ estate. A. vital B. last C. fourth D. wealthy
Fourth - The term Fourth Estate refers to the press, both in its explicit capacity of advocacy and in its implicit ability to frame political issues. The term goes back at least to Thomas Carlyle in the first half of the 19th century. Novelist Jeffrey Archer in his work The Fourth Estate made the observation: In May 1789, Louis XVI summoned to Versailles a full meeting of the 'Estate General'. The First Estate consisted of three hundred clergy. The Second Estate, three hundred nobles. The Third Estate, six hundred commoners. Some years later, after the French Revolution, Edmund Burke, looking up at the Press Gallery of the House of Commons, said, 'Yonder sits the Fourth Estate, and they are more important than them all.'
Q: I have a strong feeling that one of my neighbor is sabotaging my car...Putting nails in the tire, and vandalizing it.If I do not have any proof. Can I press charges?? I live in South Carolina.
No, you will have to witness the destruction of your property first hand. You can call and report vandalism to your car. It would be good to have it already on record. Keep an eye out for them though. Video tape them. Don't lay hands on them, I know personally that is when the police actually do something, they arrest you instead.
Q: Which is the better buy?Which will last longer on the skin?Is it whether its pressed or loose or just the way you apply it that determines how long it will last on your skin?please help(:
I've used pressed powder for years, using a big brush, not the one that came with it. It's better for me, I like it. But each person will say liquid is better. It's a matter of pref.
Q: I was pushed against the side of a building in an alleyway and he felt me up (and by that I mean he put his hands under clothing all over very aggresively), hit me once in the face, and yelled and threatened me. He is 19 i just found out. Can I press charges against him? And if so, for what and what are the possible punishments? Thank you!
Yes you can press charges. This is an aggressive sexual assault. The punishment would be quite severe, very likely he'd get a custodial sentence. Get someone who will be supportive to go with you when you report it, you will have give a very detailed account of what happened. You should get images of any injuries, and you should see a doctor for confirmation of any cuts and bruises. Don't wait the sooner you report him the better.
Q: Its for a school project ;s How was the printing press important like what good htings aand bad things did it do
As important as it gets. In the 15thC a chap called Wycliffe translated the Bible into English, only a handful of copies were in circulation because they all had to be hand written. It influenced a small band of followers (Lollards) but nothing really significant happened. When Caxton set up his press in Westminster, he was printing books by the hundred. William Tyndale again translated the Bible into English and had it printed in Antwerp, and imported into England but unlike Wycliffe he had hundreds of copies spread throughout the country. The authorities wanted it banned and tried to do so but second and third printings some in London, made it into a best seller. Tydale was executed for his troubles but his translation just kept selling. Eventually helping to lead to the reformation of the church. Something the Lollards a century earlier had wanted but been unable to get. Also because they were so cheap in comparison with hand written manuscripts they disseminated knowledge over a wider area quicker. More people learnt to read, because there were more schools. There were more schools because more people wanted to learn, and books were cheap enough for them to do so. Less ignorance led to a better life the speed of change quickened. I am not aware of any down sides, for civilisation the authorities didn't always like a free press, but in the long term it was only good that came out of printing.
Q: Does anyone know where I can buy a tortilla-press/iron in Little Rock, AR or Conway, AR area?
You okorder /
Q: Mabelline Mineral Pressed Powder or Maybelline Dream Matte what is better like for pimles and li=ong wear
The mineral pressed powder would be best if you're prone to breakouts, because its free of talc, parabens, etc that cause breakouts and clog pores =) I find it wears longer aswell, so its great =) 33
Q: I have some roses that I want to press at home. How do I do it?
A rose is a thick flower to press. One way to do it is to remove all the petals individually and press them separately from the center, then reassemble them with a clear quick drying glue. I think there is a better way to preserve them, though. You can find special granules at a craft/hobby store that will draw the moisture out and hold the rose in it's original shape. You need a container to place the flower in and you pour the granules over it to cover. The rose will dry in place and come out looking natural.
Q: i think press wood is a rip off for the people that by's press wood furniture anyone agreas with me.
Press wood as you call it might better known as particle board. It was invneted in the 50's due to a shortage of timber. in reality is well suited for aplications such as cabinets and vanities as well as furniture that is not moved much like a china hutch. It is actually a viable product and proably appears more often that you realize. not to mention it is cheap and easily made from the scraps of timber that would other wise be thrown away.
Q: 6th grade girl basketball coach, were going to be playing alot of teams that press alot and i need a easy press breaker for these girls cause we were put into the league late and dont have alot of time to work on it from what little i seen on acouple of teams play last year they play alot of man to man full court with an occasional double team.one advantage i got is i can have 3 or 4 descent ball handlers at the same time.but if i can countinously beat their press and force them to try to slow the game down i can put my best player in,shes hefty but a muscle inside we can shut from outside with no fear cause she boxes out so well shell get the rebound and in result give us 20 pts a game but shes so hefty she cant handle the fast pace game so please help me come up with a soluton thanks
My team used a very easy press break. It's a bit hard to explain, but when it comes together, it works like a dream. - First, you have two players on either side of the court, waiting for the inbound. - Once inbounded, the Passer, steps into the center of the court. - They pass amongst themselves till they find an opening in the press. - Meanwhile, there are two other people standing at about midcourt, on both sides. - The person at midcourt standing opposite the side the ball is on will run to the middle of the floor looking for possible passes. - If the ball is passed to them, he/she can either bring the ball up more or turn, and pass to the opposite side. Press is broken. Sorry, it's very hard to explain. Down below, I made you a picture to illustrate what I mean. X's are your team. Dotted lines are passes being made, and Solid lines are Where the players move. Hope this helps. I deserve the best answer because I drew you a diagram.
