Q: Hello, I've been working a lot on bench pressing since the fall. I am a freshman in high school and weigh 145 and am 5'11. Currently my max flat bench press is 150. How many pounds should it go up per week if im working every other day? any tips on how much i should be doing/ increasing for the most benefit? Thanks
What you should do, is, do your normal workout... Aim for 2 more reps on your last set, but just do as many as you can. If you get them, then go up 5 lbs. total on that workout for the next week. Someone who weighs 145 lbs should be benching around 200. I weigh 140 and bench 230. In my lifting federation, the world record for high schoolers is 259 lbs. Another tip: Try doing pause reps. Touch your chest, hold it on your chest for 1-3 seconds, then press up. Do this on every rep. You don't have to pause on your last set, but if you don't go up, try doing this the next week. I have 3 bench press programs. If you want one of them, talk to me about it. And I do know what Im talking about, I hold the world record bench press at the 132 lb class. The record is 211 lbs.

Both work the same target muscles. The chest press does alot of the stablising for you so not as many assistant muscles are used. The bench press is a progression of the chest press. When you are able to use the chest press and maintain perfect form then you are ready to progress to the bench press. Because you need more stability when performing a bench press it will be harder and you should find that you can not lift as heavy at first. If you have not used the bench press before start light and make sure you have someone to spot you. Once you have mastered the bench press you can progress to a dumbell press and then to a single arm DB press.
Q: I'm really new at this, I don't understand what pressed powder is used for and what the differences are. Do you apply pressed powder after foundation powder? Or what? Someone please help, Thanks.
Foundation is what you put on first, always. Unless you moisturize first. Then you apply pressed powder, but generally you apply cream of liquid foundation with pressed powder, and loose powder over foundation powder.
Q: I heard from someone that bench-pressing works out the triceps (well, as well as many other muscles), but how much does it work them out? A bit? A lot? I'm asking this because I want to know whether or not I should do tricep workouts on top of bench pressing. I really hate working them out, but if bench pressing works them out by a significant amount then that would be all I need :)
Bench pressing works out your triceps but not that much. You should still do separate workouts for your triceps. Everyone thinks the secret to big arms is big biceps but it's triceps. I spent more time in Iraq then I wanted to and 6 days out of each week there was spent in the gym during my down time so I know what I'm talking about.
Q: I'm in Girls weights and I can barely bench the 45 pound bar. I can do like 3 reps and then my arms give out. (we do a total of 5.) I can squat 95, incline press 35 and hang clean 35. I really need to be able to bench the 45 pound bar. Thats like the minimum weight for my class. Any tips on building up the muscle fast or something?
Just lie on your stomach and press up as many reps as you can, arching your back. Do this several times a day. It's a very healthy exercise for your back as well as building up for pushups or bench press. You'll surprise yourself how quickly you build strength - 45 pounds is very light, so part of your problem is that your muscles simply aren't used to being worked at all. My guess is you'll be well past 45 pounds before you know it.
