Q:Hi everyone! At my school weight room we only have a mechanical? Bench press. Like one which is a bar attached to a pulley that lifts up weights. So basically a bar you push up with adjustable weight and no free movement. Anyone tell me what it's called? Before anyone goes into saying It's far better to use an actual bar I'm just trying to make do with what I got. So basically On this thing I can push 100lbs once (13 years old) so I wanted to know what the best weight and how many reps/sets of what weight I should do for best results. I would also like to know proper technique so if someone could link me to a site or tell me that'd be great. I would also like to know best exercises to supplement my bench press. Thanks in advance,Jamie
squeeze your shoulder blades in combination underneath you and preserve them locked in combination during the recreation. Take a breath, unrack the burden, scale down the bar till it touches your rib cage, then press again up, exhaling as you move the sticking factor.
Q:I've been lifting for about 16 months now, im around 6'7 265.My bench press max about 6 weeks ago was around 235x1 and now im having trouble just doing 205 once. I lift 4 days a week(day 1 chest and day 4 arms). My chest is still getting stronger and size is increasing just not my weights. My leg strength is going up significantly compared to my chest. I eat pretty good 3 meals a day and take protein shakes, and drink lots of water while lifting. My chest routine is Bench press(x10,x8,6,4) and then incline (x10,x8,x6,x4), Dumbell flyes 4 sets until failure, 4 sets of dips until failure, shoulder press (x10,x8,x6,x4) Upright row(x14,x12,x10,x8), front raises(x14), laterials(x14, and then 4 sets of dips until failure. Any tips will be well taken.
Make sure you're eating enough so that your weight isn't going down. Don't bother with the dumbbell flys/upright rows/front raises/lateral raises as they will have no effect on your bench press, and as long as your bench press is going up then your mass in the chest/front shoulders/triceps will grow. Lower rep training will be more effective for gaining strength in the bench press, give 5x5 a try. Make sure you're attempting to increase the weight on your bench press every workout, and if you're stuck at the same weight then deload it and gradually build back up again to break through the plateau. Do pulling exercises as well as pushing exercises or your bench won't progress well and your shoulder health will be poor, make sure you're progressing on rows and chin-ups also.
Q:I have a machine where you can do a lot of workouts. One is where you are sitting and have one bar on each side of you that you push forward, like if you are bench pressing, only sitting up. Does this work out the same muscles as lying on back and is it easier. People ask me how much I bench and I can do 200 sitting but have no idea how much I could do laying.
it's a little different. try the laying down bench press
Q:Alright so I have been lifting for about 3 months now...but my bench press is just not getting stronger. Ive been stuck at around 135-140 for anywhere from 8-12 reps depending on how i feel. I think I have pretty good form, I just dont know what I'm doing wrong. My other lifts are increasing, including other pressing movements such as my military press. My military press, in the past few months has gone around 80 pounds for 10 reps to now about 100 pounds for 10 reps, which I guess is ok progress but definitely not amazing. I am 17 years old, 6 foot 3 and weight about 170 pounds. I eat ALOT, and after workouts i supplement with protein shakes. I have been gaining weight fairly steadily. My only problem is my bench press, for some reason i just cant get it to increase. Thanks in advance :)
Stop doing so many reps. Start doing your 5 rep max three times every 3 or 4 days, you should be increasing your lift a good 5 pounds every time. Yeah, it doesn't sound like much, but it's better than zero progress. Last of the 15 reps should be about where your muscles fail. Remember to eat plenty of proteins post-workout. Higher reps with less weight = form, fewer reps with more weight = function.
Q:Also, What role did they believe the free press would and should play in a democratic society?
Democracy is when The People govern themselves. In order for people to govern themselves, in order for democracy to work, you need certain conditions. You need people to be fairly well informed about what's going on, so they can make wise decisions in the voting booth. Meaning you need a high rate of literacy and also a free press and free speech. Our founding fathers realized this, so they made both part of the 1st Amendment. The press and the media have the job of keeping people informed, giving both sides of the story, providing unprejudiced, unbiased information. Lately they've been doing a pretty crappy job, partly because rich special interests realize that whoever controls the media controls the country.
Q:does the bench press counter the progress of push-ups
just be careful not to overtrain otherwise you wont grow at all, Check out www.okorder for the best chest workouts
Q:without using a bench pressusing body weight exercises
Push ups, push ups and more push ups... Use different alternates on the standard push up. Put your hands wide, narrow, stagger your hands, go slowly.
Q:I have been bench pressing for 2 years now and I have never been injured. Towards the end of the school year I started feeling this sharp pain in my front deltoid and my shoulder. When I was lifting it hurt when I pushed the weight up. The pain isnt so much shoulder or chest its both, where the armpit lining is. The pain is a sharp pain sort of feels like the muscle inside is sore. I the pain wasnt going away so I iced it for like 2 days and I tried lifting again. I still felt the pain. So i took some time off and did not touch any weights for a whole month. Today i got back and tried lifting and I still felt the pain. There is no pain when im doing close grip bench, the pain comes when my grip gets a little wide. ANY ONE HAVE ANY AVICE or TREATMENT.
I'm not jumping to conclusions but it sounds like you may have either pulled a muscle or tore some tissue. You should see a doctor if the pain isn't gone within a week. Also, you should probably avoid any upper body workout for now since that can only make it worse
Q:For my Journalism Class we have been asked to find out the 5 requirements for free press as stated by the 1947 Hutchins Report but I can't find it anywhere. Please help.
I don't believe there are any requirements anymore. fox news broke all of those laws by lying, making up stories, falsely accusing others of crimes winning the right to lie in the supreme court
Q:I can curl 85lbs on a preacher table, squat 250, 75lbs skull crushers, leg press lbs, but for the life of me I can't bench 160+lbs I don't know why? I'm 26yrs old, 215lbs. I take pre-workout energy drinks, whey protein 2-3 times a day, and nitric oxide pills. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week up to 3 hours. All forms of bench pressing incline, flat, decline. All of which I do pitiful weight..?? I practice, train and no solid results please help. Thanks
You can't put balance aside, because that's the very thing that separates the two. And your muscles definitely know the difference. The bench press is a free weight exercise, and any free weight exercise is more effective in building muscle for two reasons. One, because it incorporates stabilizer muscles to assist in the movement, meaning more muscles being worked. Two, because the human body responds better to movements it would do naturally. That last part basically means your body grows better when subjected to something heavy, rather than machines, which are merely hard. This isn't to say that you should give up the machine, and it certainly isn't for wusses. Machines force proper form, and isolate the muscle you are trying to work. Do the bench press first in your workout, and the machine press toward the end, when you're tired.
