- Q:i have a 2000 chevy malibu (i know it sucks) i fixed the intake manifold gaskets (upper and lower) thermostat and its still leaking and sometimes overheating. my next thought is its the water pump. there's no crack in the radiator or hoses is there anything else that can cause it to overheat besides these. what about vacuum leakage? o2 sensors?
- If you carefully squeeze or even feel some of the coolant hoses while the car is running then you will find out if the water pump is working. You should feel the coolant in the hose surging through the hose. You said it's still leaking coolant, but can't you see where it's coming from - then go from there? Are you getting any white smoke out the tailpipe - this would be a possible blown head gasket, a crack somewhere in the engine block or coolant water jackets. All of these would cause the coolant to seep into the combustion chamber and burn off, usually causing unmistakable white smoke (you see these cars on the road sometimes). I also agree with having a mechanic do a cooling system pressure check - this is the best way to tell where or if the coolant is leaking somewhere. They should also be able to diagnose the problem if its something else, and can easily tell if its the water pump too. Instead of wasting your own time and money, maybe its time to see a mechanic. I also like doing my own work, but sometimes you have to throw in the towel and let a reliable mechanic check it out. BTW, a vacuum leak would not cause overheating, but would cause bad idling, surging, bogging, etc. O2 sensors could cause similar problems, but again not an overheat. I hope I'm wrong, but you may have a blown head gasket.
- Q:Hi, my water pump isn't working in my rover 400i V reg 99 model......does anyone know where under my bonet this is located and whether it's easy done at home?
- water pumps are never an easy fix. most the time you have to take the fan off, and the radiator as well so a person has room to work. MOST water pumps are in front of the motor, towards the bottom. If you follow your radiator hoses you will find it.
- Q:1995 Ford Contour GL, 2.0L 4Cyl- three water pump failures. I bought the car in 2000 [49,000 miles] and in 2003 [116,000 miles] a leak from the weep hole area was repaired by replacing the pump. In October, 2005 [164,000] another leak from the same place was again repaired by replacing the pump. Just over two years later now, 196,000 miles, and today it's leaking from the same area. Any idea why this would happen? Each time I've replaced the pump, I've not been able to see any damage to it. People talk about impellers breaking, but they've always seemed intact. Maybe it isn't a pump failure so much as a leak for some other reason? Since purchase, the car has run what appears to be hot, in that the temperature gauge, when at operating temps, is only a tick or two from overheating, but since it's in the normal range, I've always assumed it's just a faulty thermostat. It's never overheated except for when the leak has sprung up.Any thoughts? :)
- When all these pumps were replaced, were they new pumps or remanufactured pumps? It makes a difference in the quality and longevity. Spring for the new pump, preferably from Ford. The impeller problem was on the 2.5 liter V6 Contour, they are plastic and tend to scatter under load. As far as the gauge goes, it is normal on the four cylinder Contour for the hand to be between the M and the L in normal on the gauge. All of the 4 cylinder Contours are like this and the vehicle is not overheating. There is a TSB from Ford concerning the gauge, the TSB number is 98-21-3, the dealer can pull it up and let you look at it.
- Q:Im half way through replacing my water pump and im stuck...the power steering pump pully blocks access to the final bolt that needs to be removed so the water pump can be removed so i can replace the water pump... any hints on how to get to the bolt so i dont disassemble something i dont need to?
- Not there looking at it but will try and help. Can you use a box end wrench and get behind it? Can you just loosen the bolts on the p/s and rotate it out of your way?
- Q:I have a 2002 Honda Civic Ex sedan with about 105k miles. Sometime before 110k I need to get the timing belt replaced. At about 95k my mechanic asked if I wanted to replace the timing belt and the water pump. According to the owners manual the timing belt must be replaced, but it simply says check the water pump.I don't want to pay for unnecessary repairs, but I also know that both of these jobs are quite involved, but can be done together fairly easily. Is there anything I can do to check myself or do I just have to trust my mechanic when I take it in. Also, what is the cost difference between the timing belt job and adding in the water pump at the same time?
- i would if i were you. that way you will know everything is good shape. besides a pump don,t cost that much.
- Q:i have well water. suddenly i'm getting more pressure in my water. I have a well siofterner system. does anyone know what could be causing more pressure to come out from the water?/ thanks alot.
- The problem is either your pressure tank or your pressure switch. Since the switch is governed by the pressure in the tank, I would suspect the switch first - not the tank. You could check your pressure tank pressure using a tire gage, and make sure it is in the owner's manual operating range. The pressure switch tells the pump when to turn on and off - which is what fills the pressure tank. To check the switch, run the water until the switch closes and the pump turns on. Note the pressure at which it turns on. Now watch the pressure as it builds and note at what pressure it turns off. If you want less pressure, adjust the switch accordingly. We have ours set to come on at 42# and turn off at 65#. Our pressure tank air setting is 35 PSI.
- Q:I have a 1997 Honda Civic DX and i recently took it in to have its timing belt and water pump replaced. Since then, I have noticed a change in the cars performance. I have lost both gas mileage and power since i took my car in. The maintenance supposedly took the dealer twelve hours to complete which seemed a little odd to me. Do you think this is linked? I just remember getting a lot more miles to a tank of gas, and my car was about the same speed as a friend of mine's who now smokes me. Thank You.
- I wouldn't take it back there. Get an independent shop to look at it probably just an o2 sensor or emissions stuff Tell em what happened but point any blame just tell em you want an independent 2nd opinion The timing belt is buried in the block so it is on the long side as far as hours go all the front engine accessories have to come off water pump I hope they didn't double dip you since they had to take off the water pump anyway. Allot of shops try to get away with this charge you hours that weren't actually spent its dishonest but I don't know what the legalities are. Anyway get a second opinion. The poor mileage is probably unrelated check your air filter is about the only owner level thing you can do changing the spark plugs is pretty easy. Its a 97 so it probably needs new ones if it hasn't been done. I would recommend having the fuel filter changed that can effect mileage. Have the shop plug in a scan code reader, they will probably do this first without having to mention it.
- Q:when i drove my truck after about 15 minutes i was parked and let my truck idle afetr about a minute of idling my truck stalled and when i turned it back of it was squeeking and made some noises for about ten seconds and then stopped. I noticed that the pully on my fan coming from the water pump was wobbling. my tempuratue was still normal what could cause this i am suspecting taht the bearings in my water pump went?
- your right ,when the water pump goes on those it usually does gets the bearings in them, just replace the pump on it and you,ll be fine with it,they usually last between 75 and 100 k,good luck.
- Q:When I buy submersible pump, the other party did not inform is the aluminum submersible pump, water pump factory production of aluminum submersible pump illegal? Is it against the law to sell the pump to the pump without informing me?
- No, the state does not have special laws to prohibit the use of aluminium wireIn fact, the aluminum core wire or mechanical or good, low prices, especially in the dry environment of small and medium-sized mechanical and electrical, with good performance. Only in the submersible pump, because aluminum is easier than copper wire, moisture infiltration, bacteria and other corruption, and its survival time is sometimes less than copper wire. But the pump inlet, aluminum often requires rewinding coil, because of a small submersible pump well around Electromechanical General scrap. Therefore, the quality of submersible pumps will not generally use aluminum, but the production of aluminum submersible pump is not illegal, but in the sale should be based on the principle of honest business detailed notification.
