- Q: I recently purchased a portable generator that is 7 hp and 3050 continuous watts, i tried to calculate the efficiency as follows:743 watts 1 hp7 X 743 5201 watts, (so at 100 percent efficiency, 5201 watts is possible to produce from a 7 hp generator.)the unit produces 3050 watts, so the 5201 watts (possible watts)/3050(actually produced watts) (0.5864) or approximately 59% efficiency, this does not seem right, it should be about half that. What am i doing wrong?
- You are calculating only the shaft horsepower to electric power output efficiency. That is separate and different from the internal combustion engine efficiency. Calculate that by comparing the fuel used and its heat content and its ability to do work versus the shaft horsepower.
- Q: i am going to buy a second hand generator which is 108kva diesel enginehow can i test it so i know it starts but also is capable of running around 80-100kvai want to make sure it is strong and still working and not that it just startsplease help thankssam
- start it up and plug it up to something, and let it run, the seller should have something to plug it in and show you it does work good.
- Q: I'm a salesman for a welding supplies company, and a customer is interested in buying a diesel welder/generator for use in the paddock where he can't get electricity. While looking around I've come across a 200amp machine but it says it's a 200amp AC welder. it was my understanding that all welders are DC standard, and the AC current was only on welders to weld aluminum.
- DC is desirable, but not necessary for stick welding steels. DC produces deeper penetration in most cases. However AC can be used for stick welding just as well. AC is actually better when welding with E7024 rods. AC welders tend to be very robust because they're incredibly simple, basically just a x-former or alternator, a large rheostat, and an overload protector. DC systems are a bit more complicated. Fortunately, the machine in question seems to have 110V 15A outlets for residential-type power, in addition to the welding outlets, which are 75 volts on open circuit. Machines used for stick welding are of the constant current (CC) type. That means that the applied voltage will vary based on the resistance in the arc. Note that MIG welding uses Constant Voltage (CV.) (The current in MIG welding largely depends on the wire feed rate.) Residential current outlets also need to be constant voltage, not CC. How much welding experience do you have? A year or less? With due respect, perhaps you ought to be asking some of your customers for advice, not GIVING it to them.
- Q: Automatic diesel generating set how much money?
- Fully automatic diesel generator sets are more expensive than conventional diesel engines with the same brand,
- Q: I know I take for granted that I have indoor plumbing but where does the water pressure that causes water to flow come from when I turn on my sink? Is it a pump. Where does the energy come from?
- The water drains out of the sink because it is a downhill flow from the sink to the sewerage outlet. The actual pressure is due to the height of the water and gravity. This can be stated as a head, in meters. Similarly the water comes out of a tap because it has a downhill flow from the supply reservoir typically. This can be a tank on a hill, or a tower. The water is transferred to the reservoir from its source like a lake by a pump, which gets it uphill to the reservoir. The pump is usually an electric one, though a diesel generator could be used as backup, or even a diesel driven pump could be used. Electricity is cheaper to run, considering the energy involved can be costly. The static pressure comes from the height of the reservoir above the tap outlet. This is also seen as a head. The typical pressure is 40 to 80 psi (equivalent to 30 to 60m of head or water column). Once the water is flowing at full bore the pressure drops, due to the pipe resistance and such effects, typically represented as 10-20psi approx. 8 to 16m of head. This is the pressure before the water leaves the tap (faucet), and is enough to flow through some device like a shower. At a remote property a tank stand may be used to get some height, or a pressure pump, which is equivalent. With a pressure pump the water is pumped into a rubber bladder like a large football bladder, so it can be squeezed out on demand. The pump runs cyclically as required to keep sufficient pressure in the bladder. This arrangement is known as an accumulator. High buildings may have related accumulators or a reservoir on top, and a pump/s to get water up there.
- Q: I was talking with a friends and I know gas in a car or lawnmower etc will go bad after a certain amount of time. Then we got thinking about the massive amounts of diesel fuel in storage at hospitals etc, is there a storage life for it? and is it turned over all the time?
- Let me explain something to you: Hybrid is a drive configuration. Diesel is an energy source. You see how they're two completely different things? You can have a diesel hybrid, what do you think freight trains are? Diesel fuel has it's up sides, and a diesel electric hybrid would be even better. Why do you have such a personal dislike of hybrids? What exactly do you have against a more efficient, longer lasting drive configuration? Oh, and you talk about low end torque? Electric drive produces max torque at stall. You'll never win a torque battle with an electric, they've got it all over ICEs in that department.
- Q: I need a generator that will power alot of stuff, preferably cheap as possible, or any other power source of that kind.it will need to power about 5 normal appliances and a 600w bulbany ideas
- Cheap as possible - go Chinese if you want to use it once a year and don't care if it goes paf at any time. Honda makes some good units if you want quality and back up. You need to add up the power draw of your five normal applications and your 600w lighting load. Add 25% and the unit will be adequate. If your appliances have induction motors you will have to have at least three times the rated power of the motor(s) to get them to start safely. If you need more than 3000 watts of constant power you should consider diesel, for longevity go for slow speed i.e.1500 or 1800 rpm engine speed. Price will range from $400 for a 2500w Chinese thingy up to at least $14,000 for a fully enclosed automatic 12KvA super silenced slow speed diesel unit on a slide. Running costs get high with the bigger petrol units. Inverters are good, but you will still have to generate power some how for the batteries - wind, water, solar, generator etc. Will be more expensive to set up but will be better long term for a cabin or similar. I'll tack on a couple of links below. Good luck.
- Q: How to correctly select oil for diesel generator
- According to the type of oil. According to the type of oil, according to the source of traditional mineral oil, synthetic oil, nano ceramic oil three categories.
- Q: for electricity
- Running a generator of any kind or size will cost you more than your local utility company charges per day. A generator is usually a emergency or standby situation and not ment for long term use.
- Q: I been thinking, and it seems to me our future vehicles would be best suited with a small 1~ liter diesel engine turning a generator to power 4 electric motors at the wheels of the car/truck, just like locomotives use. Advantages would be significantly increased fuel economy, AWD, no transmission and axle weight(offset by weight of batteries, longer lasting diesel engine, easier and cheaper to repair due to small engine size, fewer moving parts, and decreased complexity, regenerative braking, significantly reduced emmissions, less noise, no idling when not moving.Seems the advantages would vastly outweigh the disadvantagesDoes anyone build such a vehicle?
- Hybrids will be replaced with electrical cars.
