Q: I live on an island and we only have one power company they have taken our power away from us and because we were stealing power from them and would have to pay a hefty fee which we decided not to pay. we are running on a diesel generator right now but i was wondering if natural gas or propane generators are cheaper and or more efficient. ive checked the gas suppliers website for prices but it wasnt very helpfull.I would need a generator that is about 15 kW
Diesel generators are about the best and heavy duty for continuous running. You need to remember that diesel generators work best running 90% to 110% load the majority of the time. You should judge you power consumption on the peak usage and not on the maintained usage. Check your power consumption when everything is turned on. Such as well water pump, microwave, washer, dryer, oven, stove, refrigerator, TV, computers, etc. Units like these will pull the most power and you will have to accommodate for these items when they are all on, if your generator may not support the total load and start popping breakers or just shut down. With everything turned on your generator should pull 110% to 130% of the load, this is good. If your current generator cannot do this then you will need to get a bigger one. Plan for the maximum use just in case you forget to turn something off before you use some other appliance. Diesel oil is safer then bottled gas and has less restriction on the transportation of this fuel. Less chance of starting a fire and blowing something up. Diesel can run a longer time on less than on bottled gas. If you mix in some kerosene, the fuel will burn a little cleaner and hotter. This mixture will survive colder temperatures. Either natural gas or propane gas generators are good but, can you put a large enough tank on your island to support 24 hour usage? 100 gallon tanks can be used but transporting them to your island might be a problem and how often do you have to refill them.
Q: have several question about diesel alternator. First of all i want build micro hydro system using diesel alternator. That means i just take the alternator and using water to rotate the turbine and the alternator will produce the power. Do you think this system is possible to do? Before this i use the car alternator, and the problem is before alternator connected to the battery i get about 3000 RPM, but when i connect the alternator to the battery and field current occur, the RPM dropped to 500 RPM. So the alternator can't produce the current. So i want try using diesel alternator. Since we know diesel alternator power output in AC, so no field current needed. If i get around 3000 RPM, whether diesel alternator produce the power? Or it same with car alternator.
When you connect the battery, to the automotive alternator, you are making it operational, by activating the rotating magnetic field. It is slowing down, because it is now supplying power to its own field, as well as charging the battery. As the automotive alternator charges the battery, it may pickup speed over time. However, considering the drastic RPM drop when you connected the battery, I believe the power provided by the turbine is inadequate. It may be to small for the application, or the head provided by your water source is too low. Switching to a generator, designed to provide domestic power, i.e., 120/240 VAC 50/60 Hz, will greatly complicate your power-plant. Such devices must be rotated at their design speed, in order to produce power at the correct voltage and frequency. In contrast, automotive type alternators, along with their voltage regulators, whether they are internal or external, are designed to provide constant DC voltage over a wide range of shaft speed. Frequency is not an issue, because these three phase, alternating current generators, output direct current, via full-wave, solid state, internal rectification. Furthermore, any generator requires field current, unless it is a small generator, with exceptionally powerful permanent magnets. I recommend you stay with the automotive generator, along with a large deep cycle battery, and use an inverter to get alternating current. The battery, will be helpful in handling surges, or temporary loads, exceeding the automotive alternator's capacity.
Q: What is the difference between a diesel generator and a super silent generator?
Therefore, some environments need to be quiet, then you must use the super silent generator
Q: I have a 3 bedroom / 1 bath home. It is just 2 of us in the house. Also, I've heard that there is way to plug your generator into any wall outlet and it will charge your whole house. Any truth to this?
Plugging a generator into an ordinary wall outlet limits you 15-20 amps of single phase power, or less than 2000-2500w. And it would only energize one leg, or about half the circuits in your house. You'd also want to throw your main breakers to prevent you from backfeeding the neighborhood and/or electrocuting a lineman. Overall, it's not a safe or efficient way to connect a generator. You want a generator plugin that will safely allow more power to fed into your house along with a transfer switch that will properly isolate your house from the grid whenever you want to connect a generator. As for sizing, you need to figure out what you really need vs. what you have, and for how long. For most storm-related outages, you can probably get by with a relatively small amount of power (refrigerator, a few lights, etc) for the few hours or at most 1-2 days that power will likely be out. If you want to cover longer outages or you have higher level of necessities, then you'll need a larger generator. Also, you need to worry about a fuel supply especially if you're planning for a long outage. Fuel transportation and storage can both be problematic, although the problems vary by fuel type (gasoline, diesel, natural gas or propane).
Q: I have 1500 kw load,i want install on Diesel Generator. What should be rating?
Well, unless you're supplying a purely resistive load (nothing but filament lamps and radiant heaters -- no motors, transformers, switched-mode supplies or fluorescent lamps), you generally need a generator rated for about 1.2 to 1.5 times as many kVA as you have kilowatts. So in your case, a couple of megaVA.
Q: Hi, I'm fifteen and going to Tanzania in February on a Mission trip. I don't know what to wear, because I don't wanna wear Nike Shorts and offend people. I'm on a mission trip so I definitley wanna be representing Christ. I also need a pack list so I wont be forgetting anything. Also, what do I take money-wise? Cash, debit nfused. First time over seas. HELP! God Bless! Merry Christmas!:) -Emma
Hello okorder
Q: I am looking for back up power generator. Any suggestions?
Hello There are different kinds of power generatorswhat purpose are you looking to fulfill? How big is your home or wherever you're trying to heat? I would recommend a diesel generator as opposed to a gasoline generator. They're more efficient, which also translates to being much cheaper to run. They make silent diesel generators (not 100% silent but decently quiet). If you wanted to do some welding with the generator, you could do that too. This site has several kinds of generators listed gtpower.ca
Q: Hi.My diesel electric generator has a sticker that says Change oil every 100hrs. Use 10w-30 grade CC. But I can't find this oil anywhere. The closest I have found are 10w-30 Mobil1 synthetic oil (API SM/CF) and 15w-40 Pennzoil gold (with diesel protection, API CJ, CI, CF etc. /SM). Which one should I use? Thanks!
You are not looking very hard,. Shell Rotella and Chevron Delo are all over the place
Q: Ford fomoco four cylinder diesel engine with a symes pump ( i think ) is there anyone out there who knows anything at all about them or has found a web site or knows anywhere to get parts or has any engine numbers i would be very great-full.
Sounds like a ford industrial unit. There SHOULD be a number or number plate somewhere on the block, generator, and/or frame. A possible search, assuming it is a generator unit, would be the GENERATOR manufacturer.
Q: about diesel generator
a rad, water pump , water hoses
