- Q:If electric vehicles included a generator they could charge the battery while moving. It seems the best choice to me.

- Q:Hello, I am putting an HHO generator, which is metal plates in water in pvc pipe, into my small pickup truck. I am having a bit of trouble finding an EFIE unit though, which is the boy that goes in line in front of the 02 sensor, to give it a bit more juice and stop it from dumping more gas in when it thinks there is not enough air (but way too much HHO) in the system.Are there any automotive forums that you all would direct me to? And if not, are there any manufacturers of finished EFIE units, or even kits to build them, on the internet or elsewhere for me to utilize?I want to get this done before I leave for college. Gas prices suck!
- I haven't got a clue as to what a HHO thingy is. Is it an american gadget? I'm assuming you are in the States. You mention the price of gas, and EPA. Quite frankly i don't care if your doohicky works or not. At least you are not paying $10 per gallon. We, on this side of the pond, are currently paying around ?5.30 fpr a gallon of diesel and around ?5.00 for petrol. Does it just work with petrol engines or diesel as well?

- Q:Basically, I want to set up the new homestead off grid and would like to do it with a diesel generator to a DC disconnect, to a charge controller, to a battery bank, to the system meter, to the main DC disconnect, to an inverter, then to an AC breaker panel. Just like a solar array system but using the diesel instead of panels for the first year or two. The home will be using no more than about 22kWH daily. I guess the main question is how do I use a diesel generator in place of 19, 210W solar panels without running the generator 24-7?
- It will work if you can do without a few major items. Air conditioning is the main culprit. It uses a huge amount of electricity and amperage. An electric cloths dryer is also a major electricity user, as is an electric stove. Both of the latter can be eliminated if you have natural gas or propane. If your building the house, you can wire the lighting for DC and eliminate some of the inverter task. Inverters are expensive. If you decide to go battery, get industrial forklift batteries. They will hold power longer and give a cleaner flow of electricity than a bank of car batteries. Be sure to used distilled water. It will extend the life of the batteries.

- First off, all trains are electric, the only reason there is a diesel engine is to run a huge generator that supplies electricity for locomotive. but in a straight electric, first you would notice it is quiet and smoke free, no diesel egnines running. Second it has to have a way of getting electrictity to the motors while on the move, the most common and effective way is with overhead wires, the track will have lines directly over the center, and th elocomotives will have a device mounted on top that pushes gently upwards against the wires to conduct the electricity down into the control compartment of the locomotive. Look for the overhead device on top of the locomotive, very easy to spot.

- Q:here in the town i live in we recently had an avalanche take out power transmission lines from our hydro dam in the time it takes them to repair those 90% of our power is coming from diesel generators(you should have cringed there) causing the price per kWh to go up 500% for what might be the next 3 months.currently i make enough that i can live with a bill 5 times higher than im used to, but a couple of years ago that would have got me kicked out of my apartment because there was no way in hell i could find an extra 300 bucks a month with a week or two notice.its been a big deal here, but we are notorious complainers, so im wondering if that situation would cause you to write letters to editors and complain to everyone who will listen all day long?

- Q:I know in some cases Electric companies will buy energy from someone who's solar panel's/wind turbines are overproducing. I think the system's have to be properly grid tied, i.e. either installed by or inspected by someone from the power company. I know that they don't pay much, but if you had a diesel generator running on waste vegetable oil.like if you made an arrangement with a restaurant to pick up their waste oil for them, it would be nice to be able to do so on a regular basis instead of going to them every so often saying Hey, I ran out of oil, I need some more. Also for further info the shaft on diesel engine is 1 inch and the generator shaft is 42 millimeters
- If the engine is likely to be running for a long time, fuel consumption is likely to be important. You want to find out at what RPM the engine produces maximum torque.(If it's a car engine that will likely be related to the cruising speed of the car in top gear) All IC engines are most fuel efficient at the rpm for peak torque. If the engine can make enough power for your requirements at the rpm for peak torque, that's the rpm you should aim to run the engine at. Will depend on the engine of course, but peak torque is usually around about 1/3 of the rev range, I estimate that to be aprox 1800rpm [ie (3600-800)*1/3 +800 ] If aiming for 1800rpm for the generator, with an engine speed of 1800rpm, you don't need to change the rpm at all. That means the pulley's can be the same size, unless the belts slip (flat/ribbed belts slip aprox 3%- probably not enough for you to worry about) So that's the ratio sorted out. Physical size of pulley. All belts have a minimum diameter pulley which they can go around, so long as the pulley is larger there's no problem. Minimum size pulley depends on the thickness, and construction of the belt- and that depends on the power you're transferring via the belt. If you give some indication of the power you're wanting to transfer I'm, sure you get some additional help you'll probably need a governor for the engine to generate at 60Hz give or take a bit. Many diesel engines just have a max/min governor relying on the user to governing the rpm under varying load . You'll need fairly good control for electrically generation, but it needs be nothing much than releasing the throttle a little if the generator is running fast, and if the generator is running slow pressing the throttle.
