Q: I have a 1992 Toyota Tercel that sits in my yard. It ran at one time, but has been driven so little that it now no longer starts. Had this problem one time before and paid someone to fix it. They replace the fuel pump to get it started again. as Mark said anything is doable in exchange of some work! if it is economical, the answer is no as for the speed control you need a cruise control modify-it to keep the frequency constant as an example a Chevy truck 350 in? is 200HP as a vehicle and 40 HP as a stationary engine! there are lots to modify such as cooling, lubrication to be compatible with new venture from an academic point of view it is worthwhile because you will learn a lot about engineering, and this is priceless information good luck Di
Q: I guess the batteries are just extra weight - I'm not looking for an exact math answer, I could do the same thing. Or use a different gen, etc. to increase HP. I'm just interested in this concept of using the generator to move the vehicle along till real power is contributed by a battery bank.
As you increase horsepower, you increase weight. Refer back to your original question, I listed some useful answers that apply here as well. The basic principle you are thining of is exactly the principle of a modern Diesel electric locomotive short of the battery bank. As a concept- it is very workable. 3 Phase power has an advantage to it of space and weight savings for the horsepower versus single phase.

Q: If hydrogen is actually costing 6 to 15 times the energy to manufacture, will cost trillions to provide the infrastructure, then why are so many trying to push it? If battery powered vehicles (full electrics) are only able to get 20 to 75 miles per charge, why do we like them? Personally I like the idea of the new clean diesel engines being provided, and mated with hybrid technology. Pros? Diesel fuel infrastructure is already in place, only needs a little expansion. Hybrid tech is already showing itself to be superior to hydrogen in durability, and in cost savings. Cons - I dont really see them modern diesels are cleaner, quieter and more powerful than ever. Hybrids, especially with the American mindset of GO GO GO are showing they can go and save fuel. Tell me some of your ideas and thoughts on this topic. Enjoy
My father has bought a VW diesel unfortunately he bought before the new really clean blueteck diesels came out but i too think this is the way to go. when we were talking to the salesmen at the VW dealer they said Supposedly you can literally breath from the tailpipe of the diesels due out in 08. personally ill let him try it.

Q: i could only find a weight on one website and it said around 8,000 lbs. This one is rusted out and were planning on taking it in for scrap normally we would cut it up and take it in but this thing is a monster im thinking about renting a flatbed if it is 8,000 it would be worth it. The cooling coil and somekind of box with all the controls has been removed but they probobly werent any more then 500 lbs
That weight should be very close minus loss to rust. I would call a scrapyard first to get an idea of what they are paying, especially because part of it is a diesel engine and there are guidelines with some yards how they will accept machinery, such as clear of any fluids. The copper or aluminum wires and generator cores will probably be most valuable parts and might be worth removing and forgetting the rest depending on what the scrap yard says about the engine and rusted steel shell is worth. It will be a hard move, even for a flatbed truck because the little winch will have to pull that generator which is super heavy and dead weight. Final thing to look into is whether there is any value in any part of it. This is a very popular size generator and is still produced today except with Cummins diesel engine, maybe someone has an older one with same engine and their block is cracked!?
