- Q: For my botany class, we're supposed to find 1 sample of plant each from 10-12 different families, press them, and mount them. They are due this Thursday (3 days from now).I had already pressed all the plants needed well ahead of time using the plant press with straps and newspaper. I waited about a week to for them to dry fully, and they were all nice and flat - but someone thought they were trash and threw them away! I should have hid them in my room, but obviously it's too late for that. Now I gathered more plants to replace them, but I don't think I have enough time to press them normally. I heard that I can place foil on top of each individual plant and use a clothes iron to flatten and dry them quickly. Will this work? It doesn't need to be a work of art, it just needs to be recognizable and intact for mounting. Thanks for any advice - it's much appreciated.
- I remember once reading about somebody using a microwave to accelerate the drying time of pressed plants, however I've never tried it. You could try googling this technique. I would think that the heat might cause discoloration because plants are very sensitive to that sort of thing. In any case, I would think that using a big, heavy, book-the bigger the better-like a dictionary, would work better than a newspaper. I normally press my plants in big books like this, and then put a big stack of books on top of them, and stomp a few times on it for good measure. It presses the moisture out of them and the paper absorbs it. Some papers absorb better than others, for example laminated paper doesn't work well at all for this. The trick is to get the moisture out as quickly as possible. So you can try this, let it dry a few hours, maybe take it out and put it on a new dry page, to speed up the process a little. It's like wringing out a wet towel in a way. I don't know how thick the plants you are trying to press are, but the ones I press usually dry overnight.
- Q: what are some good supplements or tips for maxing out on bench. and dont say im too young for supplements either! im a 15, 5'9 and 170 lb middle linebacker/fullback. i can leg press about 550 and can only bench like 120 if that?! please help me!
- there isn't a supplement that will do what you are asking... just keep on practicing your bench, and don't neglect your back either! your back stabilizes your body during a heavy bench, so increasing your rowing weight will lead to a higher bench. but remember that bench press doesn't mean jack if you don't know what you are doing on the football field...remember you are training to be better at football, not better at bench pressing. also start squatting instead of leg pressing. most people can leg press a house but can't squat 135...
- Q: without using a bench pressusing body weight exercises
- Push ups, push ups and more push ups... Use different alternates on the standard push up. Put your hands wide, narrow, stagger your hands, go slowly.
- Q: I want to make my own herbal tinctures at home, such as echinacea and cayenne tinctures. I see presses vary in price, from around $40 to almost a thousand $. Does a $40 herb press do the job, this job being to be able to make a few quarts of tincture from one batch of herbs?
- I have never heard of using a press for tinctures. I think of a press for expelling oils. Tinctures are liquid extracts using the herb and a medium like alcohol (grain alcohol or vodka), vinegar or glycerin. When I make tincture, I am usually using fresh leaves. I get enough leaves to fill the bottle. I run the leaves through the food processor and pack the bottle. Then I fill the bottle with the liquid. I use 90 proof vodka or grain alcohol with water 50/50. Vinegar I use straight. I have never tried glycerin for my homemade tinctures. I did make valerian tincture a long time ago. I used the powdered root and I forget the amount I used. You can use leaves, flowers, roots or the peppers, crush or chop and for dry ingredients fill your container halfway and then add the alcohol. I would spend my money on bottles, herbs or alcohol rather than a press. Good luck! Making a gallon would require a lot of herbs. Dry herbs would be equal to half a gallon of chopped herbs to a gallon of alcohol. Most tinctures need to age for around 6-8 weeks. Then you strain them out through a sieve and then a cheesecloth or tightly woven white towel. Then bottle. Remember, tinctures are strong medicines. Use them by drops or dilute before ingesting.
- Q: I want a SHEER drugstore pressed powder. I don't want anythingas heavy as powder foundation...I just want to touch up my face a little and keep it matte. Any recommendations?
- Rimmel has a great pressed, but I can't remember the name. Also, Sonia Kashuk at Target has the best powder I have ever used. It's all I use now. It's loose powder with a powder puff, but it goes on so much better than pressed. You can't notice the make up once it's applied. I've been using my brightening powder for over a year now, and I still am.
- Q: My cat needs pressing.
- you can get them from OKorder really cheap
- Q: I have a 2000 Mazda Miata and up until recently it has functioned perfectly. Recently it started to make a squealing sound when the clutch was pressed. I noticed the sound would go away as soon as the car warmed up. Now however the problem has leveled. The car now stalls every time i press the clutch. If I press the clutch it makes that squealing noise until stalling the car. I have not driven it since it stalled on me. My question is what is causing all of this mess? and am I pretty much at the point of no return? Will I pretty much have to replace my whole transmission?
- I think that you cluch plate is worn, the problem is caused mostly when the cluch is pressed and left to come up by its own spring force wich does alot of damage and friction cause when you step on your cluch the cluch plate goes out of mesh with the crankshaft(output shaft) and allows engine to spin freely without spining the wheel,so the cluch has to come up slowly with your foot cause letting it come up by its self forces the cluch plate to go straight into the spining engine and causes alot of friction, and if your car is in gear and you don't step on cluch hard enough then your car will start shaking
- Q: My mom and I bought a cookie press ,and it didn't seem to work very well. The dough wouldn't stick to the sheet, and then it didn't look anything like the pictures. If you know why this happened, tell me and if you hae tips, pleeeeeeeeeeez tell me.
- Do not use no stick cookie sheets. And it could be your recipe, cut back on some liquids,is possible.
- Q: When is it proper to press in a round of golf?
- A collared shirt and either shorts which for men are not too short or slacks. Ladies sometimes wear skirts. Jeans are not preferred..
- Q: My daughter had a verbal confrentaion with a 14-15 year old she's only 11 and the guy pushed her afterwards and fell and hit her head on the chair cause she was sitting down can we press charges or no
- Yes call the police , no *guy* should be pushing around girls . The police will have a talk with this 15 year old boy*s parents and set him straight . If you don't do anything about this you are a coward and should be ashamed of yourself. Good luck and I hope you do the right thing.
