- Q: I already have an Alpine aftermarket head unit in my 2002 Civic. Am probably going to get a new head unit with USB/iPod control and a new mount for it since I broke the old one, but do I really need a new wiring harness if I already have one in for the aftermarket unit? Thanks!
- If your getting another Alpine, you might be able to hook it directly in. Just make sure to double check that, by holding them side by side, but I'm almost positive their all the same now. If you go with a different berand, you can use the harness, but will need to wire the new one inplace of the old. Good Luck!
- Q: I have a 93 del sol and i startd to notice that my fuse was blowing alot to my radio.because im not a mechanic i had no idea what was wrong so i just kept replacing the fuse. Until recently when i smelld and then saw smoke coming outta my speaker hole.So i pulled off the paneling and realized that my wires were getting so hot they were burning all the plastic around them,and now they are all meltd together.my car wont start or anything.No lights are coming on when i turn the keyMy question is.How much do you think it will cost to fix this?And does this sound like the wiring harness is fried to you?How much does 1 usually go for at a junk yard??Thank YOU
- Replace all damaged wires. It you have a resistance tester (Fluke for instance is top-of-the-line, very good, but cheap knock-offs are available at Radio Shack) then you can check the wires. your wires are too small for the amount of power going to the speakers (did you recently upgrade components?) get a larger gauge (AWG) (smaller number on wire). then you'll have to check all the appropriate fuses - there may be more than one blown. When the wire insulation melted, a short formed over current smoke and other bad stuff. This is all a start. It's hard to say how extensive the damage really is without a knowledgeable electrician on scene. Also, there could be another problem that occurred simultaneously or that could have been masked.
- Q: i think i found the reason why it melted the wires. my windsheild wipers never did work on anything but high since ive had the car so i think it was a bad wiper motor that over heated the wires then they all melted together.
- of course you can splice wires in the harness to make permanent repairs.just use common sense. dont replace big wires with little wires use proper rated wire. there are some systems that require proper length and ohm rating. but i think you will be ok.
- Q: i have a 57 bel air and it needs to be re wired, and one shop i took it to said they would do it for a couple thousand, which i know is very vague but im assuming that means around 2 grand. he said hed put in a good wore harness/fusebox and rewire it properly and he is very trustworthy, and he said its around 30 hours of work to rewire the whole thing. whats a fair price for this? wire harness included (he said the ones he uses run 300-500 depending on which ones, and comes with a nice fusebox)
- The problem is that job is not listed in the labor estimating guide lol so basically your going to just get your best estimate and go with it. if it came to my shop i would remove the old harness and just build another one identical to it using new connectors where possible and using the original ones where needed. Keep looking around at different shops and keep in mind a dealership has its name to stand behind, the small guys only have there reputations and work, you might be surprised if you keep looking around you just might finds somebody that still enjoys what they do.

- Thats a hard project, but you can use the factory harness from the camaro for engine management or use an aftermarket ecu ontroller for the engine, which will be harder to find and very pricy.

- Does your car have a console? That is a factor in getting the right harness.They need to know this to get the right size harness to you as the console has the shifter located in it and more wire for the safety devices would then be required.
- Q: I have a 99' E320. The headlights on this particular vehicle are a whole unit, the smaller of the round lights (the parking light) or low beam is not functioning. I suspected the bulb but after further inspection I noticed the filament was intact, however the wiring insulation was frayed and peeling I guess because of the heat. With the same gauge wire and a little know how it seems like it would be an okay decent job.However does my issue sound more like a wiring issue or a light bulb issue. The insulation is down to the copper wire, and it constantly peeling back. I am afraid of a fire, if the wires decide to rub against another and a fuse does not blow.I suspected a fuse initially but do not know where to look and usually more than on thing goes out not just one part of the headlight assembly.
- Somewhere there is a short to ground, which is over-amping the circuit to that lamp. MBs are positive-ground electricals and a nightmare to fix unless you are German and exceptionally handy. You may be able to just splice in a new wire and fix the problem yourself, try this first.
- Q: I have a Honda CB 350 K4 1971. I am rebuilding the entire bike. When i first got it, someone else already took some things off of the bike. All the wiring turns out to be one of them. - Q: How can i wire my OEM harness i purchase at the parts store for my Electric fan. Is there a way for me to Not to wire it into the A/C compressor and it work . the instructions say to wire it into the A/C compressor wires. Mine does not work . Any other alt. I don't not want to wire a toggle switch
- Did you place a warm twine to a minimum of one area of the recent thermo change? in case you are able to manually connect the two connectors on the thermo change and get the fan to run then the priority is a nasty thermo change. If connecting the two factors manually won't make the fan run you haven't any longer have been given 12 volts on the change. what's a 347?
