Q:changed the thermostat. it overheats but cools down a heat bar or two idling at stoplights. i filled up the coolant reservoir when i changed the thermostat, drove it about 2 miles(engine was already up to temp when i started) and it overheated. drove it two miles back going about 35-40 and it never went above normal but was still overheating. checked the reservoir and it was empty. stuffed a hose in it and plugged it up with a towel to force water in to see if it was leaking anywhere, no leaks. while running with the rpms up the top hose is easy to squeeze. makes me think water pump. but if i go over 45 it over heats makes me think clutch fan.: it's a simple little part, a pain to fix. Q:All water pump have diferent caracteristics, but it is imposible to overcome a certain hight...what is that hight and why?: It depends on the pump characteristics. It has its suction and discharge head limitations.

Q:How tight to a tighten down the bolts on a '86 volvo 240 water pump. The manual I bought doesn't say. The torque won't help me cause I don't have a torque wrench, so just general discription would help a lot. (I stripped the threads on a stud last time): Volvo Water Pump

Q:first off i should say it is below freezing here....with that said, the water pump pulley is not turnning so.. the fan belt busted which leads me to believe the water pump is frozen...... right?i am currently traveling and have little money to spend on a new water pumpis there any way that anyone may know to dethaw a frozen water pump without damaging it?... i should say, the motor is running great, no cracks or leaks from the cold.: when a pump is froze like you say the bearings are shot and you must replace the pump

Q:How long would it take before I would see water coming out of the exhaust bellow? I let it run for about 5 seconds or so and shut it of fearing it would burn up. Did this a few times and finally gave up. Pump wasn't hot and impeller was still good. Wondering if I just didn't let it run long enough?: i've always gone by the 30 second rule. even a NEW or emptied for winter motor that must completely fill, 30 seconds should be long enough. if it hasnt begun pumping by that point, i turn it off and give it some time to cool while i double check everything. then i might give it a full 45 seconds. but it wont overheat in less then a couple of minutes. and if its not pumping with the hose hooked up, the impeller is probably bad already anyways. however, if you do even get it near warm, its already hotter then you think it is where the heat is produced, the cylinders, and where you have tight clearances on fast moving parts, the cylinders and pistons. and if it gets too hot, major damage is quickly done. BTW, service period on a merc impeller is always 100 hours or 3 years. or NOW, before the motor is damaged, if unsure of when it was last done. when the impeller is less then $50 (and about an hour labor, if paying for it) and a new motor is THOUSANDS, you cant replace it too often. dennis, you have NO clue. i suggest getting one before you ruin the motor in your own boat. and in the meantime, keep your bad advice to yourself.

Q:does water pump sealers work?: If your talking about the water pump for a car it doesn't have any pumps those would be the radiator pumps that are connected to the water pump and transmission which keeps the radiator and transmission at a temperature that keeps the vehicle from over heating. If you have a overheating car and a mechanic told you your water pump has a leak then sorry you would have to replace the water pump but just don't go to a popular mechanic for that because it can get really expensive do your research and find you someone with a garage it cheaper because the part itself is not that expensive it putting it in that cost lol. Q:Home water well is artesian, to holding tank. I am needing to replace my pump yearly. Inside of the pump is rusted, this causing a real loud whining sound before failure. Pump motor isn't failing, the inside of the pump ends up freezing loosing the ability to spin.Any suggestions as to why?: that's a vague description of the pump. theres several types of pumps too. you need to either shield the pump, or move it to a different location, so its nots moist and damp all the time. drop a sand point down to the well, seal the well from the pump , or buy a different type. call a well service and ask them your options. good luck man! gee, that must get expensive.

You could have had the wrong belt put on and that would effect pump life. There are just to many variables. I'd say over 60,000 easy. Most pumps come with LLT Warranties b/c you should only have to replace one once.
