Q: I noticed my car was quot;in the redand was about to overheat as i was driving, so at first I thought maybe i needed more coolant. I turned off my car and heard a fan noise under my engine for like a minute then it stopped. I checked the radiator and it was empty (no coolant) so i put water in there to get to the store to buy more coolant. By the time i bought some the water was already gone (this was only like 10 min) so I put the coolant in drove home again i noticed i was overheating, i checked again and all the coolant had leaked out too..it was all gone, that QUICK! So i asked a couple of men about it, and they say it sounds like it could be a hose or either a water pump. I don't know which it is, i can't drive it anywhere b/c it keeps overheating and i don't want to get it towed for $75 just to get a new hose. So is there a way i could tell what the problem is? Q: Hoping that someone may read this.Broke down yesterday after re-filling coolant when car re-heated and mechanic who rescued us advised that the water pump is leaking and requires replacement.Our local garage have advised that to change the water pump also requires a new camber (?) kit and including both and 3.5 hours labour their total quote is ?315.08.This sounds crazy for changing a water pump - can anyone shed any light and reckon that they may be taking the mickey?Am not technical so wouldn't attempt to do work myself, however if we go back to garage, or to others, I'd like to know exactly what work needs doing.Thanks!: When the necessary water-pump is replaced 90% of the parts will be removed anyway to access replacement of the timing belt. In other words, the mechanic will have already removed the water-pump and just a few more parts will need to be removed to change the timing belt. If you haven't had the timing belt changed in the past 50,000 -75,000 KM it's wise to have it done now rather than later when the water-pump will have to be removed to change only the belt. If the belt happens to break somewhere down the road it *could raise hell with the valve train and pistons costing more pounds and kilos of money to repair. I only offer this advice as a wise preventative maintenance measure!

Q: guys i have a mini-water pump.....i wanna pump kerosene instead of water,to make a mini stove,on my own..my doubt is ...if the water pump is used to pump kerosene,will the kerosene ignite inside the pump itself or will cause any problem..i just want the pump to pump kerosene....will it ignite inside of the pump,because the pump runs on electricity....can u clear my doubt: Is the motor of the pump built-in so that the pumped fluid flows through the motor also? If the answer to the question is yes then do not use the pump for pumping kerosene. However, if the pumped liquid does not come in contact with motor then you can use the pump for pumping kerosene. But ensure that the pump shaft seal is of mechanical type (so that kerosene does not leak from the shaft sealing area) with parts (specially any rubber parts) compatible with hydrocarbons (use viton rubber parts instead of EPDM)

Q: first off i should say it is below freezing here....with that said, the water pump pulley is not turnning so.. the fan belt busted which leads me to believe the water pump is frozen...... right?i am currently traveling and have little money to spend on a new water pumpis there any way that anyone may know to dethaw a frozen water pump without damaging it?... i should say, the motor is running great, no cracks or leaks from the cold.: If the pump is above ground, yes it can freeze. It's more likely that the water line above the pump and well is frozen. Most well houses have heat tape around these lines. Make sure that is plugged in and working.

Q: My well water pump runs constantly. The manual says it should kick off at 50 psi, it only gets to 48 (moves to 45 rather quickly, slow to 48). Water isn't an issue. Turned off all water to house, and still gets to 48, so I believe I can exclude leak somewhere in the house.One place I called said it could be a bit of grit in the jet pump when I called. Could I suggest for the service man to check anything else?: I had the same problem with this in my home and I fixed it by simply adding air to my pressure tank. where your well line comes in there you should have a water softener and filters and a tank for holding pressure in the lines. shut off the water to the house and start filling the tank with air until you get to around 46 PSI once that's done turn the house water back on. It should take a lot longer for the pump to kick on now. It's pretty easy and I would definitely try to do it yourself first before calling a repair man out. It'll save you a few bucks!
