- Q:I would like to know more about sectional sofas.
- They DO maximize seating space, but they're not for everyone nor every room. PLUS the single biggest problem is usally getting the corner pieces through a door. Thankfully now there are sectional designs with a corner built in to the length of one piece, which has made this problem easier. Also, a fitment issued can be resolved by getting reclining styles where the backs can be removed. Not everyone likes to be seated in such close proximity to one another...some people prefer their own space by having a chair to sit in, so I usually recommend at least one single chair in a room for these types of guests. Older relatives usually prefer a sturdy chair, for instance, so that they have 2 arms to help them out of the seat. Not all of them can be broken apart rearranged - it depends on how the pieces connect. Plus, just cause it CAN be broken up doesn't mean it SHOULD be broken up - it depends on how the room is best laid out with balance scale taken into consideration, which are the fundamentals to good design. Another issue is gauging whether the particular configuration you have in your current space will work in a space where you may move to - most sectionals will not fit from place to place, whereas I've found that a normal scale sofa, pair of matching chairs, an accent chair will fit in almost anywhere you go is always easier to create balance in a room. I know this not only from design experience, but from personal experience, as I have moved a couple dozen times in my career. Think carefully before you purchase one, cause in my experience in furniture retail design, most people keep them for only a couple of years end up going back to a sofa chair arrangement.

- You will need to kill the bacteria that will cause a smell and need to get to as many areas as you can. Use Em Clean which will kill the bacteria. Spray liberally all over the leather and any other accessible areas. It is tested and safe to use on rather and fabric. If you have Aniline style leather ( one that is absorbent) the urine is likely to stain the leather. You can use an aniline cleaner which will help with this if the Em Clean doesn't Please do not use household cleaners or soap as these may set the stain and also will not kill the bacteria. - I'm with CutiePie. I had a cat that scratched the furniture for ages, so I made him a scratchy; I bought 3 planks of a softwood from a timber yard and a ?1 mat from a carpet shop. I screwed the planks to the wall near his cat flap and glued the mat on with PVA. Every time I saw my cat scratch the sofa I told him NO! and I would take him to the scratchy and scratch it myself, then put his paws on it and tell him 'good boy' and rub him between his ears. Anytime I saw him scratching the scratchy I told him 'Good boy'. It took a while but he ripped on the sofa far less and could have gotten out of the habit if he'd not been 14yo already.

- I have five cats, and my house doesn't smell at all. I let all of my cats outside, so they usually go to the bathroom in my backyard. My litter boxes are rarely used. If you do not want to let your cat outside at all, just clean the litter box regularly. I used to have to clean my kitten's box about five times a day. I also used air fresheners a lot. My cats still scratch the furniture. I have scratching posts, but they rarely use them. You can get your cat declawed, but this is NOT a good idea if you are going to let your cat outside. My friend put plastic caps on her cat's claws to prevent the cat from scratching anything. They are removable, so you can still let the cat outside if you want to. You can get these caps at pet stores. If you are worried about the cat food attracting more vermin, then do not leave it out for the cat all the time. Only feed your cat at designated mealtimes. This will also prevent the cat from overeating as well.
