FAQ

Here is the question:Someone left two containers on the lab bench but there were no labels on the bottles with the names of the chemicals inside. If one bottle contains a metal and one bottle contains a non-metal, how could you tell which is which?
METALS ARE MOSTLY SOLIDS AT ROOM TEMPERATURE(EXEPT MERCURY WHICH IS A LIQUID) AND THEY ARE MALLAEBLE AND DUCTILE.THEY ALSO HAVE LUSTURE (SHINE). NON METALS ARE MOSTLY SOLIDS AND GASES AT ROOM TEMPERATURE(EXEPT BROMINE WHICH IS A LIQUID)THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY OF THE PROPERTIES THAT METALS POSSES. METALLOIDS POSSES PROPERTIES OF BOTH METALS AS WELL AS NON METALS.
It says in my chemistry book that metals are positively charged elements. Well i want to know why that is? or if thats true?
if they were dangerous would they be putting them in your mouth for year long periods? no

id leave the legs alone metal is not meant to be stained try spray paint or metal paint for the legs. dont be afraid to call home depo or lowes
i always thought it was a mineral or rock, someone told me it was a metal, anyone know?
Yes you are right but up to a certain limit. Most of the reactive metal oxides would react with water to form hydroxides. Less reactive oxides may react with warm (or hot) water. some may react with steam. But there are some Oxides (such as oxides of copper) which do not react even with steam. Such oxides will react under special conditions of temperature and pressure. But finally, will form a hydroxide. So, talking in general, you are right.
What's the difference between Heavy Metal, Black Metal, Death Metal, and Melodic Metal?
This problem is straight-forward if you simply concentrate on the metal...avoid superfluous calculations...KISS comes to mind :-)) I shall assume that you omitted 'liter' in the metal ion conc...should read 0.43mols/liter. Which means that the 100 ml soln you made up from all the salt produced contains 0.043 mols metal. This same soln also contains 2.2g metal (6.8g salt - 4.6g chlorine). So the atomic mass of the metal is 52 g/mol (2.2g/0.043mols) Consulting the Periodic Chart shows Cr, chromium, is the only metal possible...QED So the metal is chromium, and the salt is chromic chloride, CrCl3 If you want to check this answer calc % metal in the salt you obtained [100x2.2/6.8 = 32.4%]....and in CrCl3 [100x52/(52+3x35.5) = 32.8%]...close enough agreement since you really only have two sig figures to work with. These problems are easy if you stay focused...right? :-))
